CENTER FOR JEWISH LIFE

What Makes a Community?

Is it a neighbourhood or people with common interests? Is it fueled by a yearning to belong or a longing to grow with others? Is it defined by a Rabbi, a prayer schedule or a sway of public opinion? Ahavat Torah — Chabad at Short Hills is an intimate and dynamic community born out of these and many other questions. The answers to this began in the fall of 1995 in a small living room in Short Hills. Today the answers continue to grow as we build together our Center for Jewish Life.

“At Chana & Rabbi's home we feel a part of their family. This is one of the many wonderful benefits that we experience by belonging to this amazing community.” — ROBIN S.

THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY. THIS IS OUR HOME. THIS IS OUR BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE.

Ahavat Torah — Chabad at Short Hills PEOPLE

RABBI MENDEL & CHANA D. SOLOMON were both raised in Chabad families which instilled within them an energetic drive to love and welcome everyone unconditionally. From a young age, they both dreamed they would one day build a community, which would eternalize the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, of blessed memory. They yearned to foster a sense of Jewish pride – no matter the person’s background or affiliation. They have transformed the Short Hills and surrounding areas into a bustling hub of Jewish life where both young and old are excited to connect to their heritage in a fun and meaningful way. Rabbi & Chana, along with their six children, Minna, Freida, Adina, Dovber, Maya and Coby, are proud to lead one of the most unique Jewish communities in the Greater MetroWest area marked with its warm, loving and welcoming trademark. They feel blessed to be surrounded by a community near and dear to their hearts that they consider family.

PHILOSOPHIES

Ahavat Torah — Chabad at Short Hills, is guided by the idea that there should be a place where everyone can feel at home within a Jewish context, and where open-minded exploration is the key, not background or affiliation. Ours is a place where Judaism sheds relevant perspective to our daily lives. With opportunities to expand the mind, excite the heart and touch the soul, we offer a wide range of learning venues, for all ages, where questions are encouraged and embraced. Our goal is premised on the idea that every individual has an indispensable contribution to make to the totality of the human experience.
