YOU BE When I arrived in Columbus thirty-one years ago, people asked me, “What is your vision for the Springer?” I always answered, “To be the best.” They were puzzled. “The best in Columbus? The best in Georgia?” “No,” I answered. “The best. Why would you want anything less?” No city wants its theatre to be “good enough.” Audiences demand excellence, and the Springer is fighting every day to make our stages sizzle with quality and enchantment. Since 1988, the Springer has increased attendance by 110%. We now serve one of the fastest-growing audiences in the nation, and that growth has come from your insistence that quality isn’t something that happens somewhere else. It happens right here. On one of the most historic stages in America. Excellence is the lifeblood of the Springer Opera House, and we are determined to conjure theatre magic for you that is wondrous and rare. Please join us for this dazzling 2019-2020 Season. I’ll save a seat for you! Paul Pierce Producing Artistic Director

ROBIN HOOD
by John Maclay and Joe Foust
July 5 - 21, 2019 In this legendary tale, Robin and his merry men (and women) battle the Sherriff of Nottingham in a zany retelling of the traditional story that feels like a touch of The Princess Bride and a splash of Laurel and Hardy. A comedy for the whole family, Robin Hood has witty musical ditties, audience participation, and modern heroism. In Robin’s words, “We can change the world as long as we believe in ourselves and work together.”

A TUNA CHRISTMAS
by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard
December 12 - 22, 2019 Over the past eighteen years, 45,000 otherwise normal people have paid perfectly good money to celebrate Christmas by watching two grown men in pantyhose. (Also cowboy hats, dresses, overalls and bouffant hairdo’s). Two extraordinary comic actors portray twenty-one inhabitants of Tuna, Texas, the Lone Star State’s third-smallest town, where the annual Christmas yard-display contest has been plagued by a vandal known only as the Christmas Phantom. Socialite Vera Carp hopes to win for the fifteenth year in a row, but she has stiff competition from Didi Snavely, the owner of Didi’s Used Weapons and the sassy Tastee Kreme waitresses Inita Goodwin and Helen Bedd. Columbus’ most popular show and a genuine Holiday cult favorite.

TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE-EST STAR
9:30AM and 11AM, * and 12:30PM, ** 2PM
poem by Jane Taylor
January 18 - 26, 2020 Thousands of light years away, a little star feels left out of her star friends. She is not big enough or bright enough to play their games. She goes to her grandfather, the sun, who tells her that it doesn’t matter how big or bright you are, but how close you are to those you love. With closeness comes warmth, and with warmth, there’s love. This production marks the first of hopefully many community partnerships in developing Theatre for the Very Young shows. We are happy to announce a partnership for Twinkle Twinkle Littlest Star with Columbus State University’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center. This show will be performed in their planetarium with an original coordinated show on the planetarium’s massive dome-projection screen.
