C

inderella , a classic fairy tale, loved by adults and children of all ages, was first brought to life, by Rodgers and Hammerstein, as a live television broadcast, in 1957. To date, it is the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that was written for television. It was remade for television in 1965 and 1997, and adapted for several stage productions, it wasn’t until 2013 that it made its way to Broadway. Its debut featured a new book written by Douglas Carter Beane and is what the Springer Opera House brings to you, the audience, tonight. The Broadway version stays true to the classic story of a poor, mistreated, orphan girl who marries a prince, but adds some modern twists and turns along the way. Old favorites like “In My Own Little Corner” and “Stepsister’s Lament”, along with new ones like, “Me, Who Am I” and “Now Is the Time”, are sure to delight and entertain you. Cinderella has a modern script which provides characters with depth, including Cinderella, the prince, and even the stepsisters. The plot has been freshened, but Cinderella retains her time-honored generosity of spirit. Tonight’s production of Cinderella will give you an opportunity to understand and appreciate its lessons, about the power of dreams, love, acceptance, and kindness. A little kindness goes a long way, and no doubt Cinderella is a kind soul. Her kindness can make her seem like a pushover, but it takes a certain quiet strength to remain as kind as she does to others, be it elderly ladies who turn out to be fairy godmothers or defenseless animals. Cinderella’s kindness allows her to be selfless, to remain grateful and to appreciate others. The talent and dedication of the cast and crew at the Springer Opera House has always been amazing, and this year is no exception. Not only is it a visually beautiful show, but it is also charming and funny. It is my hope that you will not only rediscover the magic of Cinderella but find yourself cheering for Jean Michel and shedding a tear at the sheer beauty and message found in “There’s Music In You”. I am incredibly grateful to the entire team that has come together to present this show. Everyone has worked tirelessly, and we hope you enjoy it.

Celebrating Ron Andersons call to Honor the Past, Acknowledge the Present and Salute the Future. The Salutations Fund is an endowment that has been created to protect and strengthen the Springer forever. Through this fund, lovers of the Springer Opera House may establish long-term legacies or celebrate, memorialize and honor individuals in an enduring way. Unlike the Springer Society, which is an annual fund that supports Springer operations and programs in the current season, the Salutations Fund is a way for donors to acknowledge friends, artists, loved ones, community leaders, teachers or others in a personal way that protects the Springer far into the future. This is our ‘forever love fund.”

THEATRE for the

G N U O Y VERY Ages 0-5

Jan 18 - 26

Theatre for the Very Young performances are unlike any other theatrical experience, featuring lots of audience participation, a short show time, and of course the open invitation to move, make noise, touch and explore! Before the performance begins, we welcome children and families into a pre-show experience where children will have the opportunity to physically interact with objects used in the performance. Yes, everything can be touched! The performance itself is focused on the audience, inviting them into the “world of the play.
