DIRECTOR’S NOTES
I
t is extremely easy to lose one’s self during the holidays, to the Hallmark Channel romanticized ideal of what “family” is – and means. Truth be told, for most of us, a successful family requires so much more than just love; it requires a vast amount of trust, commitment, and extraordinarily hard work. This story in particular - the story of Buddy the Elf and the Hobbs family - is a perfect example of this. While it is true that we can’t always choose our families, it is equally as true that we can choose what we prioritize in our lives and how we live, love, and interact with each other.
B
uddy the Elf reminds us that, ultimately, it is up to us. Buddy chooses to live a life that is unapologetically kind, joyous, loving, and happy – regardless of the hardships and negativity surrounding him. It is through these thoughtful rebellious acts of kindness, we are able to even begin to understand how much power lies within each and every one of us. The kind of power that can shine a light into the darkness; a power that can transform a relationship, a family, and a community. We are all capable of wielding this tremendous power if we simply take a moment, and believe.
F
rom the artistic and technical teams, the cast, and the crew – thank you for letting us be a part of your holiday. For myself, I personally want to thank you for giving me, and the Springer Opera House, and chance to share this season with you. It is my deep hope and desire that everyone leaves this production feeling even just a tiny sliver more joy, love, and happiness. We all could use a little more of that.

Celebrating Ron Andersons call to Honor the Past, Acknowledge the Present and Salute the Future. The Salutations Fund is an endowment that has been created to protect and strengthen the Springer forever. Through this fund, lovers of the Springer Opera House may establish long-term legacies or celebrate, memorialize and honor individuals in an enduring way. Unlike the Springer Society, which is an annual fund that supports Springer operations and programs in the current season, the Salutations Fund is a way for donors to acknowledge friends, artists, loved ones, community leaders, teachers or others in a personal way that protects the Springer far into the future. This is our ‘forever love fund.” IN MEMORY OF RON ANDERSON
