DIRECTOR’S NOTES

think for each of us, looking back at our childhood can spark many memories. Some good and maybe some not so good. That is just part of the journey of life that makes us who we are today! This is the heartfelt and determined story of Sophie Sheridan, a beautiful free spirited twenty-year old and bride to be, raised by a willful and strong mother, Donna Sheridan, who once was a singer with her own band Donna and the Dynamos, who now lives a life on a idyllic Greek Isle who is accountable to no one, left her daughter with an unanswered question, namely, who her father is. Donna, like most, has a lively past and from that past, ended up with a very unexpected life from what once was, becoming a working-class owner of a taverna and raising her daughter as a single mother. Sophie, like any young girl, dreamt of having her father walk her down the aisle. She found the courage and took the risk, after reading a diary once kept by her mother, to contact the men, who seemingly had a distinct past with her mother to her wedding. Sophie struggles to put the pieces together to find out which one of these three men, Harry, Bill, or Sam, could possibly be her dad. The many puzzle pieces Sophie connects with the curiosity from each potential dad, realizing why they have been brought to the islands, leads us to a gorgeous heartfelt story full of love and ultimately, ownership!

A

s the director and choreographer of this show, I am proud to fearlessly lead this company! I have spoken to my cast about my own life and how in many ways, I find myself really connected to this story from my own personal life experiences, as I imagine each individual who invests their heart into this story will find a personal connection as well. I find there to be such sisterhood between Donna and her lifelong gal-pals and back-up singers Rosie and Tonya. The same goes for a younger idea of this sisterhood with Sophie and her best girlfriends, Ali and Lisa. I wanted to make sure that the heart of this show was equal with the incredible music of ABBA. In the industry today, many Broadway producers are taking music from a musical icon and turning it into a story within a musical, and this being (in my own opinion) the most celebrated work within this type of concept, it is full of love, laughs and the obvious get on your feet, hum and sing along to the tunes that you will find all too familiar!

M

amma Mia is the musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, former members of the band. Come to Greece and lend your heart to Donna, Sophie, Harry, Bill and Sam and this incredible company, because “You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life.. See that girl, watch that scene, dig in the DANCING QUEEN!”

Celebrating Ron Andersons call to Honor the Past, Acknowledge the Present and Salute the Future. The Salutations Fund is an endowment that has been created to protect and strengthen the Springer forever. Through this fund, lovers of the Springer Opera House may establish long-term legacies or celebrate, memorialize and honor individuals in an enduring way. Unlike the Springer Society, which is an annual fund that supports Springer operations and programs in the current season, the Salutations Fund is a way for donors to acknowledge friends, artists, loved ones, community leaders, teachers or others in a personal way that protects the Springer far into the future. This is our ‘forever love fund.” IN MEMORY OF RON ANDERSON
