Polk County, north of Springfield, is home to the charming community of Bolivar along with one of the longest, scenic trails in the Ozark Greenways Trails network.

The Frisco Highline Trail is Missouri’s second-longest Rail-Trail, winding 35 miles through the scenic Ozarks, connecting Springfield and Bolivar. On what used to be train tracks, the trains have been replaced by bicyclists, walkers and runners. Wheels still turn on this former railroad corridor, but nowadays it’s bicycle wheels spinning instead of rolling iron locomotives. The deer still bound away, the cattle still stare and the small town folks still know how to fry up a pork tenderloin and make a stranger feel welcome.

Historic downtown Bolivar is home to specialty shops and restaurants along with the historic Polk County Courthouse and Polk County Museum. It’s also home to several events throughout the year including Cruise-Ins (six per year), Annual Car Show and Country Days on the town square.
