Babysitting Clinic

Grades 5-8*

F.A.S.T. Kids

This hands-on clinic for students in grades 5-8, includes activities that focus on basic first aid, fire and weather safety, child development and parent expectations. Each participant will receive a certificate after successfully completing this two hour course. No discounts.

Emergency Outfitters Staff

First Aid and Safety Trained (F.A.S.T.) Kids is a 6-hour course. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, personal safety and healthy living. This course helps prepare children for staying at home alone. Students will receive a book and build a First Aid kit to take home. All materials included in fee.

Technology & Learning Minecrafting in Real Life

Grades 1-5*

Computer Explorers

Minecraft Movie Making! Minecraft is the game phenomenon focused on creativity and building, allowing players to build environments out of textured cubes in a virtual 3D world. You will work in pairs and be introduced to Minecraft in real life with our customized Legos. You will also film a stop motion movie using Minecraft-inspired Legos.

Beauty Bootcamp

Ages 10-14

Esteem: the condition of being honored. Honor yourself by learning the basics of becoming a young lady. This upbeat class will teach today’s etiquette, age appropriate skin care (makeup applications for older girls), healthy lifestyle habits, do-ityourself manicures/pedicures and a guaranteed clean closet by weeks end! On the last day of class, we’ll celebrate with a party that’s just your style, since you will have made all of the arrangements. Instructor, Trish Hendrickson, has many years of experience participating in and training women for pageants. A model for over 25 years, she has trained women on the local, national and international levels. Parents, this is one class you won’t want your daughter(s) to miss out on! Video Game Creation: Nintendo Characters Grades 1-5* Computer Explorers

Create your own customized Video Game using Nintendo Characters. You will learn to create a dynamic video animation game using Scratch, the innovative programming language created just for students by the MIT Media Lab. The first part of each class will be instructor led; with the remaining time, students will have the opportunity to customize their own game animation. You will be able to use different Nintendo Character sprites such as: Pokemon, Super Mario Brothers, Lego Star Wars, and Sonic the Hedgehog to create video game animations. Games will be emailed to parents, or students can bring a USB drive on the last day. The software will also be available to download at home. Our summer camps are fun, fast-paced and packed with information. Develop the brain bending strategies of a brilliant and complex game! Continue your chess journey or start your path this summer. Beginners learn piece movement, capturing, check, checkmate, castling and more; returning students study intermediate lessons (King, Rook, Checkmate, and Gaining Opposition); advanced students will study Queen Sacrifices, Back Rank Mates and other advanced theories. Math & Science eXtreme MOBILE elecTroniX

Youth Enrichment League

Join us for cooler, bigger, MOBILE projects. That’s right, they move! Create a mobile juggernaut equipped with disc shooter, sirens, flashing lights and voice recorder. Make and take home your very own electric vehicle. You will build 20-30 electronics projects over the course of the session and use those projects to explore basic aspects of electricity, including measuring ohms, amps, voltage, open and closed circuits and more. Be ready to amp up at this summer camp. All materials included in fee.

Music Beginning Guitar Lessons

Ages 6 & up

Steve Cekalla, Steve’s Guitar & Music

Have fun while you learn the basics of playing a guitar. You might even become the next guitar hero! This session is for 3 lessons to be scheduled and held during each month. Guitar is required, however limited rentals are available. Using student registration information, Steve will contact you to set up lessons.

LEGO X: IndyCar Series

All speed! All summer! Start your LEGO engines and get ready to burn rubber (LEGO rubber, that is). This tailor-made course will focus on different LEGO racers: drag racers, tug-o-war, hill climber (using a fly wheel), street sweeper, a land yacht, and more. With these projects, students will investigate basic engineering concepts: gearing up/down, single vs. separate axles, stored energy, kinetic energy, and more. Become a science explorer! First, you will go undercover and become a spy to create secret codes, a periscope, spyglasses, and more. Next, shake things up as you investigate volcanoes, earthquakes, plate tectonics and more. Forensics & Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Ages 10+ Emergency Outfitters Staff

Where has my little dog gone? Little Buddy was dognapped! Now that the ransom has been paid and he is safely home, we will examine the evidence and catch the culprit. Students will perform several scientific and forensic experiments with the evidence to determine which of the 64 inhabitants of Newton took Buddy. #2665

Creativity & Fun Project Runway

It’s all new and it’s all here! Students will make a summer tank-top, head band, and hair scrunchy while learning sewing basics including: how to safely use a sewing machine, cutting patterns to size, hand-stitching techniques, fine needle work, and accessorizing. Invite your family and friends on the last day. Our Project Runway presentation will command attention and dazzle audiences.

The kingdom needs you! The royal family has appointed you as their loyal master engineer to determine the best castle construction to protect their walls against a marshmallow catapult. You will build your own catapult and trebuchet to practice your skills of trajectory and accuracy before the Royal Tournament. Then, you will bring your kingdom the latest medieval inventions that made life easier.

A stitch in time saves nine, so sign up early! Space is limited!

Enjoy learning the basics of pottery with hand building and the use of a pottery wheel. You will spend the first day on the wheels, the second day hand building, and the third day you can pick between the two! All pieces will be glaze fired by the instructor, and returned to Community Education within four weeks.The pieces you create are food, dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe. Dress for a mess! Fleece Tie Blankets

Join us to make your very own fleece tie blanket for yourself or someone special! You will learn to tie a basic fleece blanket, and if time allows, a fleece pillow as well. Please bring to class two pieces of fleece of equal yardage, ranging from 1 to 2 1/2 yards. The size will depend on if you are making a blanket for an infant, youth, or adult. Please bring an additional 1/2 yard of fabric for a pillow and sharp scissors. The price of fleece can range from $10-$30/yard, so be sure to look for sales or coupons to get the best price!

Parent Connections : Preventing Power Struggles Casi Olson, Clinical Psychologist

We’ll provide the pizza and childcare so YOU can connect with other parents about the joys and challenges of parenting that we all experience. Casi Olson will guide discussion as you learn from her and other parents about preventing power struggles. Get tips and explore ways families can spend quality time together. Casi has shared her expertise with many parents. Grandparents and professionals are also welcome. Pizza will be served from 6:00-6:30pm and childcare is available for ages 3-12 during the parenting presentation from 6:30-7:45pm. COST: $5 per family, per date. (Scholarships available). Register in advance for childcare and to ensure we have pizza for your family.

Storm After School A program for middle school students at Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School. A place to interact with kids, build relationships, enjoy supervised activities, complete homework, develop personal skills and have fun! Have a great idea you want to share? Teach a Community Education class! We are currently looking for instructors to teach youth and adult enrichment classes in Rice and Sauk Rapids during the afternoon, evening, and weekends. We strive to offer a wide variety of classes and learning opportunities. Our participants are eager to learn!

Chalk the Walk! Family Event Grab your sidewalk chalk and let your imagination soar. Kickoff summer in style and draw, color and create with chalk on the sidewalks and parking lot at Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School. Bring the whole family for this fun, creative event. We’ll provide the lemonade! Please bring your own sidewalk chalk. No registration necessary. Come anytime between 10am and 1pm. Space is on a first come, first served basis. Tuesday June 3+ 10am-1pm SRR Middle School Meet at Door 2 +In the event of rain this event will be canceled.
