In the book of Matthew, Jesus is speaking to the disciples and He tells them, “The ‘harvest’ is plentiful, but the workers are few”. Every time I read that passage, I am reminded of the incredible need that still exists to proclaim the good news of salvation from Sulphur Springs to the ends of the earth and how we are blessed to be a part of God’s eternal plan to redeem those who are without salvation in Jesus Christ.

Throughout the years, I have seen many different ways to enlarge the Kingdom of God but I must say that the whole concept of “Harvest Sunday” has been a huge encouragement. “Harvest Sunday” is a day when this body of believers brings a sacrificial offering that is used to take the “Good News” of Jesus Christ to people around the world. This offering will literally touch the lives of 1000’s.

As you give sacrificially, your gift, together with the giving of others, make it possible for people around the world to know of the life changing power of Jesus Christ.

As the church family gives sacrificially, we provide the opportunity for the church to go. This is the model of New Testament missions; we give and we go.

This is why I want every family to pray diligently about how the Lord would have you give. It will be difficult to find an opportunity of giving that provides such incredible potential in terms of reaching the lost with the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. Please make this a matter of prayer as we prepare to bring an offering on November 4th that will honor the Lord and touch the world.

On that same day, we also have a very tangible way to reach out to the lost and un-churched in our community. Since November 4th is the time change and we all get another hour to rest, we want to take advantage of that day and make it a “high attendance” Sunday. We are calling it The Gathering. It coincides with “Harvest Sunday” and the goal is to bring our friends and acquaintances that are un-churched and possibly unsaved to church. I will preach a message that I am praying will touch the lives of those who are lost and encourage the saved.

Please pray with me as preparation is made for that message. I hope each Sunday School class will work to pack out their room with people who need to experience the love of Jesus Christ. I also pray that the success of this event will spur us on and remind us that every Sunday is a special day and that we have the privilege and the responsibility as the children of God to touch our world with His love.

THANKSGIVING HOMEBOUND MEALS will be delivered on Wednesday, November 21. If you would like to receive a meal, please call Jo at 903-885-0646.

Meals will be delivered during the noon hour.

Great things are happening at the ROC and I want to keep you up on what is going on. We continue to enroll people who want to know more about FBC and/or don't know where they are going to spend their eternity. When you come for a visit make it a point to start some new relationships with people you don't know. You may be just the person God has chosen to meet their need.

We have started one P31 exercise class for ladies and will soon start two more. Randy Wallis is leading a College Planning Relief Workshop for those of you who have kids that will one day go to college and you will need to pay for it. There will be a volleyball academy for kids ages 4-12 starting November 5th.

We still have Zumba, Math tutoring on Tuesday nights, and adult basketball on Tuesday nights. Upward basketball and cheerleading is now in the signup stage, which means we need coaches and referees to make it all that God would want it to be. And, as always, there is a constant need for more volunteers to work various 3 hour shifts during the month. Come on by and visit. We'll get you involved somewhere. See you at The ROC! Mike

"Not a Creature Was Stirring" is a delightful musical that presents the Christmas story from an unlikely source. Led by Grandpa Tom Cat and Momma Mouse, the local church mice and cats tell of Christmas traditions, programs, and more from their tiny perspective.

Newcomers, Freddie Fieldmouse and Allie Cat also learn what Christmas is truly about as they hear the story of Jesus’ birth.

Complete with oversized props and costumes galore, this musical will be presented on Sunday Dec. 2nd at 6:00 pm. Come early as there will certainly be a packed house!

"I'll Be Home For Christmas" will be presented

twice on Saturday, Dec. 8th, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, & Sunday Dec. 9th, at 6:00 pm. Get your tickets early for this dramatic dessert theater. Cheesecake will be served as you enjoy the program. This big band, 1940s era musical combines incredible harmonies, swing rhythms, and drama to tell the story of the faith of a family, as the nation is on the brink of WW II. Along with the family, everyone will discover that to find true hope and peace, we must look to the Prince of Peace who came to this earth as a baby, and yet a King! So come on out for a night of music, drama, and dessert at the ROC. Childcare will be available for kids in Kindergarten and younger.

The annual Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service is Sunday, November 18, 2012.

This year’s service starts at 6pm at the ROC. Eric Godwin, who grew up here at First Baptist Church and is the pastor of Shannon Oaks Church, is the guest speaker. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend this community-wide worship event.

In addition to the Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service we are also taking part in the annual Community-Wide Food Drive. It begins on Sunday, November 11, and concludes with the Community-Wide Thanksgiving Service on November 18.

We encourage you to donate canned foods and other nonperishable foods to the drive.

In previous years Sunday School departments have collected enough money to purchase pallets of canned foods, sugar or rice. Donations stay here in Sulphur Springs to help feed the needy in our community.
