Volume 4 Issue 4

On Sunday, April 13, we’re launching a special survey asking for input on your spiritual life and our church’s role in it. We will email a survey link to everyone for whom we have an email address. For those who don’t have a computer we’ll have some available in the church media center. Our goal is to better understand what the church can do to support your spiritual growth. We’d like to hear from everyone who calls our church their church home. The more input we have, the better our efforts to support your spiritual growth will be. So please…take the survey! The survey is comprehensive and thought provoking. Please set aside 35 - 40 minutes to take it. Think of this time as an investment in your own spiritual life as well as the future of your church. Questions can be directed to Bruce Welch or another staff member.

As I made the drive from Sulphur Springs to Tyler, it seemed, that the landscape had literally come to life from the time I left until the time I arrived back home. Trees that had been budding seemed to burst into bloom. Landscapes that had seemed bare on the trip over, all of a sudden seemed to come alive. If you are wondering what made the difference, it was the heat of the sun. The process of growth and replenishing had been underway since the nights began to warm up several weeks ago but the near 80 degree temperature brought about a change that was obvious, even over a period of just a few hours. Growth is a natural outcome of exposure to the sun. When a plant is rooted, watered and maintained, the outcome when exposed to the sun will inevitably be growth, which in turn will produce fruit. When we are grounded and rooted in the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:14-19) the result of that connection will be authentic spiritual growth. In his letter to the body of Christ in Ephesus, Paul prayed for the believers. He prayed that God would grant them, “according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all fullness”. To say it another way, when we are deeply rooted in Jesus, the evidence of that will be authentic spiritual fruit. When Paul is writing about the hope he has for spiritual growth, he asks God to strengthen us with the power of the Holy Spirit, to root and ground us in the love of Christ, so that we can comprehend the love of Christ according to the riches of God’s glory. When we are rightly related, and deeply rooted in Jesus, there is no limit to the spiritual growth that can take place in our lives. Since the glory of God is limitless, the growth potential is limitless as well. I want to encourage you to exert a great deal of time and energy seeking after the One who will literally transform our lives from the ordinary to the extraordinary. No matter how you may view your limitations, God does not see them. Little becomes much when we place it in the Masters hand because He takes the common and makes it holy; He takes the mundane and makes it majestic. These words, holy and majestic, describe the life that is being transformed by constant exposure to the Son. Jesus can produce the kinds of spiritual fruit that you never even imagined. If you do not believe me, just read verses 20-21. “To Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen! He is talking about people just like you! Blooming for His glory, Pastor Mark
