It is a great time to be a part of FBC Sulphur Springs. HOPE IS ON THE WAY! On January 5, 2014, we will begin a journey together as we focus our attention on offering Hope in the name of Jesus. As I have prayed for the Lord’s direction, I could not escape one word, HOPE! We are a people of Hope, given the promise of Hope, called to offer Hope in the name of Jesus. As I searched the word of God for a passage for the New Year, I came across a verse in Jeremiah 6:16. The NLT says, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is and walk in it and you will find rest for your souls”. This verse is fitting for the Church in our generation and it is fitting for FBCSS. We are at a crossroad. As the culture tries to chip away at the truth of God’s word, we are confronted with a decision. We will go with the flow of culture or we will follow the path where the Lord is leading us to go. We must recognize that the flow of culture is in reality the undertow of the enemy. We have the privilege and the responsibility to offer Hope to a hopeless world. Every month, seven million people search the internet for one word, loneliness. Each year, 21 million Americans (7% of our population) struggle with depression and 30,000-commit suicide. Every week in our own community, we encounter people of all ages who are hungry for food, hungry for meaning in life and hungry for the gospel. We live in a broken world where Hope is missing. God has called and enabled us to make a radical difference. When we hear and heed the words of the prophet Jeremiah, we are given the opportunity to be a part of God’s Hope-giving power. Remember, real Hope can only be found in Jesus. The ancient path leads us to new life in Jesus Christ. New life leads us to make a difference in the world in which we live beginning right here in Sulphur Springs and reaching to the ends of the earth. It does not matter how long it has been since you have been to church, please consider how the Lord can use you as you step back into the life of His church and become an agent of Hope to our community and to our world. HOPE IS ON THE WAY! Do not miss what the Lord is doing in His church. Praying to see you January 5th!
