Infants children need to be collected from their classroom in the afternoon or from the Infants playground – shelter after 3.15pm. Primary children will now be seated in the bottom playground. Parents are requested not to assemble in front of classrooms in the afternoon prior to pick up as this disrupts students learning.

NEW IMPORTANT TRAFFIC PROCEDURES

6. The angled parking behind the Church is for Staff Parking only. Please do not park there.

As you are aware, we will be introducing Kiss and Go. An information pack should already have come home to you with the details of the roll out. Phase 1 commences on the 6th of February and involves Years 3 – 6. We ask for your patience during the phasing in period. It is hoped later in the year we will be able to include the Infants.

ANAPHYLAXIS POLICY Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction, which usually occurs after exposure to a particular food. Anaphylaxis is potentially life threatening and always requires an emergency response.

Observance of the following school procedures will greatly assist in the safety of the students, and will foster a better relationship with our neighbours.

In order to minimise the risk to those children in the school who have allergies, please do not send foods with nut products in your child’s lunches. We also have children with a Sesame intolerance. We ask that you refrain from including these items.

I urge you to be mindful of the messages you send your children about parking, being courteous etc.

FOOD SHARING We discourage the sharing of food to try and eliminate possible reactions. For this reason, do not send cakes, lollies or any food to school to be given to other children. As the health, well-being and safety of the children in our school is of paramount concern to us all, we know that we can depend on your support and assistance with this matter.

Just some reminders. Please note change to traffic flow. Doran Street now one way from Mary Hamer Lane to Doncaster Avenue. 1. Parents are to approach the College via Mary Hamer Lane from Borrodale Rd and exit via Doran St if participating in Kiss and Go.

UNIFORM

As the area between the Church and the Infants School in Mary Hamer Lane is now restricted parking, it is recommended that you park in Bruce St or Doncaster Ave. Please ensure you follow the rules to avoid being booked.

It is requested that all students have the correct items of uniform. If you are unsure the Study Planner has the requirements listed. Please note that Primary must have laced up shoes. No Velcro or buckles.

2. Parents MUST NOT park in any driveway either the neighbours or the college at any time.

Reminders:  Sport shoes can be any colour.  Primary School Shoes and Sport shoes must have laces. Buckles and Velcro not permitted.  Infants may have Velcro.  Broad brimmed school hat to be worn when outdoors.

3. The practice of parking or stopping in the middle of the road is illegal. 4. Attention is drawn to the extreme danger of leaving motors running while leaving the car to drop off or pick up students from the college, particularly when smaller children are left in the car.

MEDICAL UPDATES

5. Please drop your child/children off in the morning and leave as soon as possible. Similarly in the afternoon after picking up your child please leave so that other parents have room to park.

If your child is under the care of a medical specialist, you need to make this known to the school. Students with specific medical conditions such as Asthma, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis etc need to provide the school with an Action Plan.

13

Medication kept at school needs to be current and clearly labelled with child’s name and instructions for use. Parents are requested to check this regularly and replace as needed.

KALANTA My thanks are extended to each and every one of the students and parents who shared the Christmas spirit with our parishioners by singing the traditional kalanta, to them, in their homes. A great blessing for all involved.

All parents are to ensure that emergency contact details are current. Please see the secretaries who will be happy to assist you.

Με εκτίμηση Ελένη Ανδριτσάκου Elaine Andrew - Year 11 (Modern Greek Year 12)

UNIVERSITY NEWS UNSW Campus Tour Campus tours run on the first Saturday of each month and most Fridays providing potential students with a guided tour of what UNSW has to offer. All tours start with a presentation prior to the tour. https://www.futurestudents.unsw.edu.au/unswcampus-tours

Welcome back to another busy and exciting year! Congratulations to all the HSC Class of 2016 on the successful completion of Year 12 and it was pleasing to see some outstanding results. The main round of university offers were released by UAC on 18th January, so it has been interesting to see the diversity of courses being undertaken at the different tertiary institutions. Students are reminded to accept any offers they receive and to wait for the later rounds of offers (in February) if still hoping for their first preference.

UNSW 360 Virtual Tour If you are unable to take a tour of campus in person, UNSW has launched a website that allows you to tour campus from your phone or computer. http://www.360tour.unsw.edu.au/ Macquarie University Campus Tours Campus tours are held regularly throughout the year for high school students and their parents. 6 February, 10am – 11am 20 February, 10am – 11am 11 April, 10.30am – 12pm 24 May, 4pm – 5.30pm http://www.mq.edu.au/study/high-schoolstudents/parents/campus-tours

Over the past week, I have been contacting students and parents so that we can clarify the final destinations of last year’s HSC class. If students are enrolling at Notre Dame University this year, I would appreciate being notified, as we have no official records of offers from that university as yet. YEAR 10 This year, we are offering a comprehensive online careers test (Morrisby Online) to the Year 10 students. On Friday, letters to parents of Year 10 and accompanying brochures were distributed through the home room classes. If parents are interested in their child sitting for this test, which costs $50, please return the reply slip by Wednesday 8th February, so we can organise this as soon as possible.

UMAT 2017 UMAT is a test that is used specifically to assist with the selection of students into the medicine and dentistry degree programs at undergraduate level at the universities listed on the website. Registrations close 2nd June 2017. The test takes place nationally on the 26th July 2017. https://umat.acer.edu.au/

Year 10 will be having several careers sessions throughout the year, so I am looking forward to getting to know them and help them in their career development over the next three years.

Open Universities Australia Open Universities Australia provides the opportunity for students to undertake university studies online and at their own pace. This will provide them with the same qualification as an on-campus student. http://us5.campaignarchive2.com/?u=c8596eaa07dfb7895c61cfe9 c&id=912c62d390&e=3e20277061

YEAR 11 and 12 Year 11 and 12 students are already working studiously and several have already seen me this week for advice about courses and subjects. Please encourage your child to read this column each fortnight and to make an appointment with me if there are any queries about events, courses, or anything else I can help with.
