Residential Experience

A Competitive Advantage The St. Andrew’s School postgraduate program is designed to provide students with an additional year to build upon their strengths and to shore up any weaknesses before entering college. Some students seek a postgraduate year to take additional coursework and solidify their study skills, while others may see benefit in an additional year of high school athletics. All students in the program gain an additional year of skillbuilding and maturation, which makes students more competitive in the college admissions process and better prepared for the rigors of college. As is our approach, the selection of courses is tailored to each postgraduate’s needs and goals.

In addition to their academic and college advisor, each postgraduate student works closely with the program director, the director of the Upper School, and, for our studentathletes, their sport coaches and athletic director.

College Counseling

St. Andrew’s offers courses exclusively for our postgraduate students: a Standardized Test Prep (fall semester), Learning and Developing Study Skills (spring semester), and a College Reading and Writing Seminar. In addition to these courses, students will have the opportunity to enroll in a full complement of courses including honors sections and advanced placement offerings.

Both the program director and the School’s college counselor assist each student with the college admissions process with the goal of admittance into colleges and universities in which they will thrive. Finding the right college is an important journey to self-discovery and we are committed to providing the tools and resources our students will need to make it a fulfilling one.

Students take the SAT in the fall of their postgraduate year. The postgraduate program director works closely with each student to complete his/her college applications and to meet appropriate deadlines. Students have the opportunity to attend college fairs at nearby colleges and secondary schools. College admissions representatives visit campus throughout the fall. A financial aid night is offered in January. College information nights are offered in the fall and spring.

Our postgraduate boarding students will have a dedicated living area in our residence halls. This space will allow for a more personalized approach to policy and responsibility and help students develop critical independent living skills. The students will work closely with dorm parents and other members of the student life team as they work through our residential curriculum.
