SEASON 2017 / 2018

: BALLET STAATSTHEATER NÜRNBERG

DEAR AUDIENCE, To celebrate the first ten years of Nuremberg Ballet, we would like to look back on the fundaments that have built our beginning. Since long time I wanted to focus on Albrecht Dürer, to create a piece about his personality and the complexity of his creativity and genius. Dürer and Nuremberg would not be the same without each other and this also applies to our company. “Dürer’s Dog”, my new orchestra ballet, therefore is homage to the most famous citizen of Nuremberg and at the same time to the town that became a second home to my company and me. As second production we plan a triple bill ballet evening and we are extremely proud that it came about. Because we succeeded in inviting to Nuremberg two of the presently most sought after and important choreographers, guests with the worldwide first rank stages: Hofesh Shechter and Alexander Ekman. A special artistic treat to my company but first and foremost to our audience! Under the title “Powerhouse” I will combine an own new creation with the choreographies by Shechter and Ekman. Finally with “Dekade: 10 years of Ballet Nuremberg“ I will cast a glimpse on the most representative moments of the work of the last ten years. The focus will be on our company and our repertoire, with the participation of our friends, international ballet stars joining us to celebrate, reflect and at the same time take another step forward.

Goyo Montero

Ballet director and main choreographer

Music by Peter Tchaikovsky Performance Days: 10, 16, 18, 24, 27, 29 March; 1, 6 April 2018 Approached from its source, the novel by ETA Hoffmann, Montero’s Nutcracker is a dark study of the soul and eye-opener at the same time. Montero understands this world famous work as an exemplary coming of age story that tells us about the dangers and conflicts alongside human development.

Goyo Montero presented with “Nutcracker” not only the high point of his choreographies so far, but also a strong statement for the total and as it is fascinating entitlement of an own ballet company. Nürnberger Nachrichten, Jens Voskamp Nuremberg’s Spanish ballet director successfully achieved with his “Nutcracker” the stunt to decidedly tell alongside this red thread of narration a coming of age-story. And at the same time he thereby combines fairy tale and modern psychology, the literary fundament and the dance fantasy in a very original and prolific way. Nürnberger Zeitung, Thomas Heinold A splendid dance highlight. BR-Klassik, Matthias Rüd
