The Arts Centre is also in partnership with Lincolnshire One Venues (LOV) to help give young people the opportunity to discover the wider arts family and gain professional level experience. CONCEPT Art Popup ‘Concept’ showcases a broad range of contemporary artworks selected by curator Sam Roddan of Art Pop-up, from the organisation’s recent projects and resident artists. Brought together as a strange and fascinating collection, each artwork concocts a story, engenders enquiry and deliberation as its premise, rather than a fundamental appreciation of beauty. The concept conveyed is the basis of the artwork itself, depicted in intriguing details and unusual materials. Fri 3 Apr - Wed 22 Apr

HISTORY LECTURES BY DON CHISWELL Longthorpe Tower
Valkyrie - The Plot to Kill Hitler
One of the most important medieval buildings in England, not only for its unique wall paintings (giving an insight into the Medieval world), but as a rare example of a tower house in the south and for the family story it encapsulates.
The plot of July 1944 led by Von Stauffenberg was one of many attempts to assassinate Hitler. Who were the plotters and what were their motives? Why did the plot fail? Why was British intelligence opposed to Hitler’s assassination?

The colonisation of North America by the English during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries would change the course of history. First performed in 1879, ‘A Doll’s House’ proved to be one of the most controversial plays ever staged. It is the story of a marriage in which the dilemma faced by Nora, the wife and mother at the centre of the drama, provoked outrage in contemporary audiences. Today this finely observed and sensitive masterpiece is regarded as the first great naturalistic play, in which psychological realism took precedence over romantic idealism. Ibsen said at the time of writing, ‘A woman cannot be herself in modern society.’ It is for the audience to judge how far we might have come today. SING ACAPPELLA!
Meera Syal (The Kumars, Goodness Gracious Me, Rafta Rafta at the National) returns to the National Theatre, directed by Rufus Norris (Broken, London Road). India is surging with global ambition. But beyond the luxury hotels surrounding Mumbai airport lies a makeshift slum, full of people with plans of their own. Zehrunisa and her son Abdul aim to recycle enough rubbish to fund a proper house. Sunil, twelve and stunted, wants to eat until he’s as tall as Kalu the thief. Asha seeks to steal government anti-poverty funds to turn herself into a ‘first-class person’, while her daughter Manju intends to become the slum’s first female graduate.
Bruce will be sharing some of his very favourite harmony songs. ‘The day may include some African songs, a bit of gospel, perhaps a dash of pop, doowop and some world-folk – whatever I’m currently feeling passionate about!’ Be prepared to move your body and sing your heart out and join our singing community for the day! You don’t need to be able to read music – all of the songs are taught by ear. Just bring energy and enthusiasm!

Catherine encourages students to transform or interpret rather than merely record and imitate. The intention is to stimulate insight and inventiveness; to combine imagination with observation and memory and assist the student in finding his/her personal voice. We will be starting with landscapes: please bring drawings if you have any. All abilities welcome, just bring an open mind. Any medium may be used. If you need to buy painting materials, please wait until the first session when Catherine can advise you. There is an art shop near the Arts Centre. Bring a Pilot ‘V’ Fineliner water-soluble pen, A3 sketchbook of cartridge, weight 180, 200 or 22gsm and support for sketchbook ie thin piece of mdf approx 43 x 32cm.
