THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN BY BERTOLT BRECHT THEATRICAL NICHE LTD

Brutality and kindness collide in a spell-binding calamity of noise and colour

In a world bereft of goodness, is it possible for one truly good person to survive? Theatrical Niche return by great demand after the success of Lysistrata with this epic Brechtian tale to the regions, using their signature touches of ethereal puppetry, physical theatre and object Work. In Szechwan, the gods descend - but find that only sex worker Shen Teh will help them. In gratitude for her kindness, they shower her with riches, but as everyone around her takes all they can, how will she keep her head above water?

WONDERLAND Wonderland is a brand new project created by Ashley Wass and Matthew Trusler to raise money for the Lenny Trusler Children’s Foundation. The foundation was set up by Matthew and Maya Koch after the death of their baby son from a rare kidney disease in April 2007, and is dedicated to providing relief from suffering and illness in very sick babies and children. 2015 marked the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The book contains 12 chapters and a prefatory poem, and 13 composers were asked to write short pieces, each inspired by a different section of the tale. The pieces will be interspersed by our own Karen Burrows reading a script specially written by Louis de Bernières. Sat 12 Mar 7.30pm

Ben Palmer Haydn Haydn Beethoven

Conductor Symphony No. 97 in C Trumpet Concerto in E flat Symphony No. 2 in D

Produced by The Original Theatre Company and The Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. Directed by Christopher Harper. With the recession biting hard, Emily and Oliver have decided to downsize and shift their middle-class London lifestyle to a small town in the north of England. One night they open their doors and invite next door neighbours, Dawn and Alan into their home. Over the course of a disastrous evening of olives, anchovies, Karl Marx and abstract art; class and culture collide where the consequences are as tragic as they are hilarious. From one of the most exciting playwrights to emerge since Alan Ayckbourn, Torben Betts, and produced by the award-winning Original Theatre Company (Birdsong, Three Men In A Boat), comes a brand new production of the smash hit, sell-out comedy, Invincible.

In his quest to fulfil a lifetime ambition to conduct all the Haydn symphonies, Musical Director Ben Palmer brings his passion for this composer to both Symphony No. 97 and the Trumpet Concerto. The Concerto was written to demonstrate the chromatic possibilities of the new keyed bugle, the precursor to the modern trumpet. Under Palmer’s baton, it promises to be a fresh and exciting performance of this much loved work. Sat 30 Apr 8pm £12.50 (£10.50) £5 under 18s Classical/Hire
