This is Maugham’s harsh but credible study of the mentality of genius. It draws heavily on the roots of folk and traditional music but reinterprets those themes with a freshness that is entirely contemporary. Through driving rhythms and soaring melodies, the sound of Tarras expresses the essence of an ancient countryside and a people who still confront the same human challenges as generation upon generation over the centuries. “I’ve loved Tarras for years, so great to hear their new album ‘Warn the Waters – it’s a phenomenal piece of work!” John Renbourn

William Stukeley in Stamford: his houses and gardens with Guest Speaker John Smith William Stukeley, noted 18th century antiquary and Vicar of All Saints, 1730-47, was a keen student of architecture and an enthusiastic gardener. While in Stamford he published his archaeological discoveries at Avebury and Stonehenge and these much influenced his thoughts on garden design. He totally refurbished his Barn Hill house, planned a Palladian triumphal arch spanning the road, and created an impressive garden. John Smith is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London and this talk is based on his research for an article in the Antiquaries Journal.

Larry Garner with the Norman Beaker Band American bluesman Larry Garner has found a true musical soul mate in British blues veteran Norman Beaker. Garner may have paid his dues in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while Beaker cut his gigging teeth in northern England with people such as Alexis Korner, Jack Bruce, Jimmy Rogers, BB King etc. but put them on stage together, and they are definitely drawing from the same musical roots.

New Perceptions
Three Counties Artists Fusion
Stephen Park
Rakesh Abrol – Let in Rain
The work on show is inspired by ‘Stamford’ where the juxtaposition of architectural styles and ethos of the area provides a challenge and stimulus for concept development and production of experimental artworks in multiple disciplines.
New Perceptions features the work of four local artists; Brian Andrews, who has recently completed a residency at Uppingham School. Simon Sharpe, Head of At and Design at Uppingham School, Anastasia Wildig, Teacher of Art and practicing Artist at Uppingham School and Lucy Cade-Stewart, Artist and student teacher, living and working in Stamford. All four painters interpret their surroundings, by using a variety of techniques and media. In the case of Brian Andrews, this can include items as varied as powdered copper and crackle glazes, whilst the others use more traditional oils or acrylics on canvas. All works are for sale and can be purchased from the Arts Centre at the time of hanging.
This group of friends returns to the gallery with another varied collection of work bringing a fusion of styles in various media. Artsists Judy Horman, Linda Dalton and Ghislaine Chalmers are once again joined by sculptor Angie Hawkins to present a lively mix of paintings and sculptures.
I held my first exhibition at the City Gallery Leicester taking part with the theme of “strike a light” for which I created an abstract bed with candles. I evolved a distinctive free flow design influenced by the grand master Gaudi. I turn the functional into statement pieces. My Other Worlds installations are meant to be a play on common phrases that have been passed down through English culture over the years in a tactile tangible form.
Contemporary artist Rakesh Abrol is featuring Realism and Abstract Expressionism in fine art original oil paintings and limited reproductions. On display is a collection of vibrant imagery inspired by experiences created through interactions with nature along with a vivid splash of exotic imagination. A beautiful choice of bold and bright colours reflects ethnicity and celebrates diversity.
