Officially spring is here, but the last vestige of winter has been hard to shake off! I love the photos of Spring flowers on Facebook and see that mine have at least broke ground. Daffodils, in particular make me smile ... they just look happy. Picking a theme for the magazine during this in-between season was tough. So I settled on the things that we enjoy doing at the end of winter, the beginning of Spring, in a fantasy world or just life in general. The issue includes photographic artists that have not been in the magazine before. I applaud all that contributed to this issue’s stunning experience. This month’s publication is one of transition for me as well. I have made a difficult decision to leave Reno after 34 years and move to a small town in Idaho to be near 3 of our 6 children. We bought a 40 acre farm on the Snake river ... I know, “Egads what was she thinking!”. The fun news is that the property has a working bed & breakfast on it. So my imagination runs wild with ideas about BJD gatherings and .... On page 44 the STAND photo contest People’s Choice award is announced. I won’t spoil the surprise, will will offer hearty congratulations to the winner! Enjoy!

3rd Annual PHOTO CONTEST Entries Theme: Paris, Then or Now The People’s Choice Cheryl Booth
Cheryl will receive $200.00 plus a free registration to the 2019 PNW BJD Expo. For me, Paris is summed up by an old time elegance. Once colorful, now slightly subdued warm coloured rooms. rich food & drink as well as fine are and photography. doll: JAEME COSTAS Photographer CHERYL BOOTH Our judges choice 1st place winner, Polina Kovalska
The Eiffel Tower is the greatest Paris sightseeing stop. But at first it was described as the ugliest building in the city. The tower was a subject of controversy, drawing criticism from those who objected on artistic grounds. Weird things can be unaccepted now, but sooner or later they can become famous artworks. Strangeness doesn’t mean tasteless. doll: PULLIP AKEMI BY GROOVE Photographer POLINA KOVALSKA Our judges choice 2nd place winner, Stephanie Butts
Quasimodo had a huge head, bristling with red hair and was hideously deformed. He had a giant humpback, a malformed blind left eye and a horny lip over which one tooth protruded. He was also deaf. when comparing himself to the beautiful Esmeralda, ““When I compare myself with you, I cannot help pitying myself, poor unhappy monster that I am! I must look like a beast to you. You, a sunbeam, a drop of dew, a bird’s song! I am something frightful, neither man nor animal, something harder, shapeless, more trampled upon than a pebble.” Swinging down the facade of Notre Dame by rope, Quasimodo rescues Esmerelda from hanging, shouting, “Sanctuary!” doll: BEASTIE BY TRACY PROMBER Photographer STEPHELLAB Editor’s note: I really enjoyed hosting this year’s photo contest. Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all of our judges!
