As I was planning and thinking about this issue, well it was still snowing in Reno. This has been the winter that just won’t end, so I am glad to be heading to Idaho where it seems to be warmer! Speaking of the move, as we finished up the fine points for the purchase, lots of slippery marbles seem to hit the floor. One point in particular blew up and we felt compelled to make the 7 hour drive up to the property to discuss it in person with all parties and real estate agents. It started out tense, but I quickly realized that there were no monsters in the room, just mis-communication. Lesson learned, problems solved ... it was a good day! Sick and tired of gray skies and snow, I wanted color and brightness in this issue and was happy to see that the contributing photographers agreed. This is the time of year to spring out of hibernation mode and DO something. Swim, hike, toss rocks into a stream, wallk on a beach, or go someplace you haven’t been before. Take your doll(s) with you and take some pictures, I would love to see them! This month’s publication includes the Creative Inspiration Award winners, announced at the PNW Expo at the end of April. Please join me in congratulating them! The issue also includes a short story by Connie Lowe, Stella’s Impressions of Paris. It was so fun putting it together that I will be sponsoring a photo story challenge in the very near future ... very probably for the August / September issue! Enjoy!

CREATIVE INSPIRAa TION AWARDS The STAND Magazine’s Creative Inspiration Awards are about the people that spur our imaginations to a new level of creativy. They are not linked to advertising in this magazine or any other monetary reward. For each award, I want to look back to see where it began, rewarding the influencers. With the talent I see in the marketplace, it was hard to know what to talk about. For 2019, first and formost I picked a subject I know something about ... costumes. My research began at the earliest beginnings within the BJD world. Secondly, I wanted to recognize a step forward in body design poseability. Congratulations to these talented folks! Creative Inspiration Award for being at the forefront of costume design for BJD’s ... her work began in the 1990’s and has withstood the test of time with a continuous succession of innovative and stunning costumes. Her quirky shabby chic designs not only influenced the BJD world, I believe tey played a role in the clothes we wear today.

The Award goes to VAL ZEITLER

Creative Inspiration Award for taking costume design into uncharted territory inspiring emerging artists to unleash their creativity. She threw out all of the norms, mixing antique fabrics, trims and antique objects in unusual ways. The inventive use of underwear as the basis of of the costume design bred a new fashion frontier.

The Award goes to CONNIE

LOWE

Creative Inspiration Award for an innovative body design using loose ball joints that further increases the ability to realistically pose BJD bodies.

When Stella woke her first morning in Paris, she was shocked to see how small the Eiffel Tower was.

But when she got closer, she realized she was wrong.

Her plan was to see the Louvre but first ... a bite to eat!

Here is Stella as she arrived at the Louvre.

Fantastic! she thought.

This one is a little violent for children, Stella thought.

Stella found the ...ummm...goose fascinating

Hmmm, I think it needs more color

Heel toe...heel toe...

Stella thought she saw a resemblance

Starry Night was Stella’s favorite painting This one made her hungry

After Stella left the Louvre, she was ready for lunch...hmmm not this

Now that’s more like it!

After lunch Stella was off to the flea markets to shop

Flea markets made Stella hot and a bit parched

Nothing a little ice cream wouldn’t fix

Stella found the Paris book sellers intriguing

But this was her favorite place to shop

It had been a long day and Stella strolled back to her hotel... but first a warm drink

No Stella!
