Thank you to everyone for their amazing reviews of volume 1. I was completely blown away by the response and enthusiasm everyone showed. One of the most meaningful messages I received was from “J”, a young lady who told me about how the Lookbook helped her to connect with her disapproving father. For many years, J’s father had been giving her a hard time about being an adult who “played with toys.” He shamed her love of doll collecting and degraded her for spending money on dolls, playing with dolls and even talking to others online who played with dolls. In his eyes, all she had were a bunch of expensive toys sitting on a shelf and boxes and boxes of useless accessories. As J and her mother paged through the Lookbook, her father took notice. He finally realized that these weren’t just “dolls” in these images. This was actually art. Not only were his eyes opened to the creativity and diversity of dolls, but he is now trying to support his daughter’s passion for doll photography and is buying her a new camera! I’m not sure I could ever ask for anything better than reviews like that! Ultimately though, I just select the images. The photographers and artists really get all the credit. What they do is magic and I am honored by their contribution. I am thrilled to help be a part of breaking the mold of what people perceive “playing with dolls” is. There should be no stigma with this, no shame or guilt. We are in an amazing, artistic hobby and I am damn proud of it! So fly your dolly lovin’ flag high, my friends!
