In a small coffee shop in Bentonville, Arkansas in the Spring of 2009, Aaron Walters and Brian Mason wrote a business plan. Their hope was to create a company offering with an unparalleled shopping experience, and whose core principals would be centered around giving back. With that idea, Altar’d State was born.

Both having backgrounds in retail, Aaron and Brian knew they could do things differently with their new business. From the start, Altar’d State pioneered a landscape where retail fundamentally connects to goodwill efforts. Today, relationships within local communities, as well as giving back through world-wide philanthropic efforts, remain core to the brand’s mission.

I’m a free spirit, super social, faith-full, and family-first! A true girl on the go. My rescue pup and I found our community here—making new friends everywhere we go. Being a hopeful romantic, I dream about my big day and finding THE dress. Sometimes I need to slow down—maybe yoga in the park or playtime with my nieces and nephew.

WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I try to start my day with gratitude (I have sooo much to be thankful for), plus I love volunteering at the animal shelter—it’s where I met my best friend ;)

HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?

I dress spontaneously. My looks are like my moods—changing all the time! The best days are the ones where I get asked, “where did you get this outfit!?”

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

My mom—she’s my favorite shopping buddy and the first person I call on at the end of every day.

Locally in the communities we call home, we have partnered with over 4000 local non-profits who provide relief, compassion and love to the friends and neighbors of these communities. These efforts have left a positive impact in all fifty United States.

Globally we have partnered with several non-profits who provide education and build schools for children in third world countries as well as provide clean water well systems for communities in dire need. These efforts have helped provide the resources and education to the people of these communities, teaching them how to create healthier and more sustainable futures for themselves and their future generations.

GLOBALLY

Coprodeli Mission based in Peru. In 2013, Altar’d State formed a partnership in Peru with Coprodeli, an organization that supports community-based development efforts serving impoverished families in this country of great need. Padre Miguel, Coprodeli’s founder, began his mission here over 35 years ago. Over the years, Altar’d State has partnered with Coprodeli on over 30 projects which support their core mission of positively impacting Education, Children at High Risk, Preventive Health, Humanitarian Aid, Employment Generation, and Housing.

Lifewater International. A more recent partnership for Altar’d State, Lifewater International is a Christian clean-water organization that provides resources and education to in-need communities. They teach how to build well systems that are life-altering for these communities. The clean water that is maintained through this outreach gives these villages the ability to fight waterborne diseases, creates a path for successful farming to better nourish their communities and gives them the precious time for education and income building. Our partnership with Lifewater helps to bring positive change to at-peril communities in Tanzania, Uganda, Cambodia and Ethiopia. Lifewater’s mission footprint is vast—we are thrilled and humbled to be a part of this vital work.

LOCALLY

Mission Monday—every Monday 10% of net proceeds in all stores and online go directly to local charities across the country. Each week our guests and Altar’d State family members see this as an opportunity to give back in the biggest way.

As part of our community service efforts, every month all associates are given 4 hours of paid volunteer time. As a company we encourage our associates to support the ongoing mission opportunities we have in place every season as well as their charitable volunteer work.

Annually, we support organizations who feed the hungry, assist service men and women, boost self-esteem, love on those undergoing treatment and house the homeless. We support causes that arise through cultural needs and natural disasters. And we have ongoing partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity; Second Harvest Food Bank, Knox Area Rescue Ministries and Big Brothers and Big Sisters—just a few examples of the opportunities our associates have eagerly supported through the years.
