The Global Water Crisis

Clean drinking water and basic sanitation are critical to life. Without them, families walk miles for water that makes them sick, spend their income on medication, and struggle to send their children to school.

The global water crisis impacts 785 million people—1 in 10 people—on the planet today. Plus, 1 in 4 lack access to a toilet, a critical element to overall health.

The good news: This is entirely preventable. We can end the crisis in our lifetime.

SOFG’s partnership has helped bring transformation to Shinyanga, Tanzania. Thank you! Because of you, local Lifewater staff have been able to partner with WASH facilitators as their communities adopt healthy habits. Shija is one of these facilitators. As a WASH facilitator, Shija models the tools and behaviors needed for good health and helps her neighbors adopt WASH behaviors. Her home is in Mishepo Village and was recently certified as a Healthy Home.

“After receiving training from Lifewater, now our family has changed,” smiled Shija. “We have a good bathroom, a dish drying rack, and we wash our hands before and after any activity in order to protect ourselves from dangerous diseases.” Mishepo Village will have a safe water source soon. The community is looking forward to the day when they have safe water, which will remove many of their day-to-day challenges.

“I believe my dreams are going to come true,” smiled Shija. “With water flowing near my home, I will be able to cultivate a garden to help my family.” In 2022, many villages in Shinyanga, Tanzania will become healthier as they adopt healthy habits with help from WASH facilitators like Shija. You made this possible in Shinyanga.

We can’t thank you enough for your support!

Your gifts have helped bring safe water to Kakumiro, Uganda, where mothers like Atukunda live.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness!”Atukunda exclaimed. Atukunda watches with joy as life for her children improves. In the past month, two new bathrooms at schools in Kakumiro have been completed. Another two are under construction, and three have started maintenance. This improvement in sanitation at school makes it easier for students to focus and learn, and they are learning healthy habits like handwashing at home and at school.

“Our dream is to educate our children,” said Atukunda. “Safe water has made it possible.”

“When we got safe water, life changed,” said Atukunda. “We became healthy and started living without fearing the worst.”

Your partnership makes this kind of change possible, bringing health and hope for the future to families and students like Atukunda’s.

Your gift goes toward providing safe water to students in Ethiopia, keeping them in school so they can finish their education. Thank you!

Twelve-year-old Ayantuis one student who has benefited greatly. Ayantu lives in Gutu Village in Nensebo, Ethiopia. As the oldest child in her family, Ayantu juggles helping her mother with household responsibilities and attending school. Before her village received safe water, she had to make many trips to the river for water that was contaminated before and after school.

“I used to get very tired after transporting water,” Ayantu said. “But I couldn’t miss my class.”

Ayantu is a driven and motivated student. She used to worry about being able to complete her education, but no longer.

“I don’t worry about being able to pass to the next grade like I did before,” smiled Ayantu. “Now I have time to attend my classes and study hard.”

Ayantu hopes to become a doctor one day, to help end the health problems in her community. Your gifts bring dreams like this within reach for her and other students. Safe water makes it possible for them to complete their education with hope for the future.

You made this possible. Thank you for partnering with girls like Ayantu!
