Our Founders

Aaron Walters (left) is the Co-Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Altar’d State. He has held various leadership and merchandising positions with Walgreen’s, Foleys Stores, The May Company, Wal-Mart Stores, Goody’s Family Clothing Stores and Hybrid Apparel.

Brian Mason (seated, right) co-founded the company with Aaron in 2009 and serves as President. He previously held management and leadership positions with Saks Department Store Group, Kohl’s Department Stores, Goody’s Family Clothing Stores and Mercantile Stores, Inc.

The Movement

The movement that has become known as Stand Out for Good, Inc. began in Knoxville, Tennessee in the fall of 2009. Our first store offered books, music, coffee, casual fashion, entertainment and most importantly a unique and uplifting faith -based experience with giving back at its heart. From the first day, our founding brand Altar’d State pioneered connecting retail with goodwill efforts both locally and globally.

The first Altar’d State Store grew very quickly. The merchandise mix and store experience were adjusted regularly based on guest feedback, and it became very apparent early on that our guests were highly engaged in the faith-based personality of the brand as well as our giveback efforts.

The young company’s mantra to fill a gap in the retail industry and change the world by standing out for good continued to crystalize. This wonderful, unique and heartfelt story of guest and associate collaboration continues today as the five different brands of Stand Out for Good, Inc. operate 150+ locations in 39 states.
