Annual Giving: The SAC Parent Fund Annual Giving is the cornerstone of all fundraising programs at St. Andrew’s – the foundation upon which all of our other fundraising efforts are built. Gifts to the annual fund provide support for current year operations, strengthening core academic and extracurricular programs.

The School asks each family to make an annual gift of $1,500 to the SAC Parent Fund. This voluntary donation is facilitated by way of the Business Office through your son’s account. Each year in the fall term, three SAC Voluntary Gift installments ($500 each) are included on your account.

Like all donations to St. Andrew’s, these voluntary gifts will receive a tax receipt eligible for the year in which the donation is made.

Annual Giving: Pick Your Passion You have the opportunity to direct your annual gift to one or more areas of the School that you and your son feel passionately about. For example, you may want to designate your support to Residential Life, Arts & Music Programs, Athletics, or Pipes & Drums. A list of potential areas for support is sent out in the fall, along with a guide on how to designate your donation.

Unrestricted donations to the Parent Fund (gifts that are not specifically designated) support a number of priorities as deemed necessary by school leadership.

Capital gifts to St. Andrew’s meet building and endowment needs that cannot be met by tuition and annual giving. Capital campaigns are an intensive fundraising effort that typically have a set goal and timeline and yields significant improvements to the School.

The School’s current strategic plan identifies goals and initiatives that are integral to the ongoing success of St. Andrew’s. The following are several highlights of the strategic plan:

Throughout the history of St. Andrew’s, key capital improvements have shaped the face of the School, including most recently: Spring 2012 and ongoing – Campus Master Plan Phase II - Not an Ordinary Place Campaign: Yuill Family Athletic Complex, Performing Arts Centre, Music Centre, Engineering Centre, Business & Leadership Studies Centre, and Great Hall & Dining Services ($28 million) Fall 2003 – Campus Master Plan Phase I: Rogers Hall (Middle School), Yuill Family Gymnasium, Wirth Art Centre, and Staunton Gallery ($18 million)

• Promoting educational excellence: academic program will be recognized for its breadth, depth and quality.

• Maintaining our traditions and an innovative edge: continue to be recognized as a leader in the implementation of technology in the classroom.

• Ensuring strength and sustainability for future generations: complete phase II of our Campus Master Plan (Music, Drama, Assembly Space, Teaching Space, Upper Fields, Great Hall & Food Services). Carry out renovations which enhance the beauty of the campus and the efficacy of the learning environment.

The Yuill Family Athletic Complex Thanks to the generous support of our Old Boys, in particular Bill Yuill ’57, the Board decided in spring 2011 to move forward with a significant capital initiative in the 2011-2016 Strategic Plan – the redevelopment of our upper fields at a cost of $6.5 million.

The revitalization includes: a spectacular synthetic turf field for football, soccer, rugby and lacrosse with an 800-seat complex; comprehensive track and field facilities; a baseball diamond with seating stands; a training facility for soccer, baseball and cricket; two outdoor multi-sport courts; and new parking lots.

Red & White Gala: Each year in the spring, the SAC Parents Guild hosts a major fundraiser – the Red & White Gala. This annual event is a favourite among parents, and is a great way to meet other parents while raising money for St. Andrew’s.

4. What is an Endowment Fund and how does it differ from the Annual Fund?

An Endowment is a substantial fund that provides the School with scholarship, award and auxiliary monies based on earned investment income. Comprised of many funds, typically in the name of an individual or family and with a minimum value of $10,000, the School’s endowment provides support to the operating budget while continuing to be invested and growing in the long-term. A practical equivalent to an endowment fund would be a savings account, and to the annual fund a chequing account.

2. Are gifts to St. Andrew’s considered eligible for charitable tax receipts?

Yes! Gifts to St. Andrew’s College Foundation provide the same tax incentives as donations to any other registered charity in Canada. In Ontario, for example, you are eligible for a tax rebate up to 46% on all donations made to the School. Tax receipts are mailed out promptly once a gift is received.

3. How else can I support SAC?

In addition to our Annual Giving Program, there are other unique initiatives to which you can contribute.

5. What is the difference between restricted and unrestricted funds?

The two terms refer to how and where a gift may be utilized. Gifts to an unrestricted fund, such as the SAC Parent Fund, are dispersed to various areas of school life considered to be priorities as deemed by the Headmaster and Board of Governors. Gifts made to a restricted fund, such as Pipes & Drums, exclusively support the area to which they are directed.

Tribute Gifts: Leave your mark around campus with a tribute gift in your name or in honour of someone special. These types of gifts include a Great Hall chair, a sports locker, a tree planting and others.

We will continue to raise funds for this development, and significant naming opportunities are available. These vastly improved facilities will offer our students the highest calibre playing fields in the country on which to perform their very best.
