FAST FORWARD INTO SUMMER

After 13 years of Olympic Triathlon, Portocolom welcomes the unique TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 formats. Mallorca is a paradise for European triathletes and offers a new race feeling over one-of-a-kind distances: 1km swimming, 100km of cycling and 10km of running for a total distance of 111km. The Olympic distance triathlon held in recent years becomes TriStar55.5, and will be carried out the same day. Portocolom is known to be the first European destination for triathletes after a cold winter. Enjoy swimming in the bay of Porto Colom, glench your teeth on the bike for the climb to Sant Salvador, and be sure to throw up your hands in the streets of this Mediterranean village when finishing the race. Yes, you can!

A very special triathlon race

Get away from mass tourism

The authentic village of Portocolom is located in the southern half of the east coast of the Balearic island of Mallorca, about 70km from Palma. The village belonging to the municipality of Felanitx is popular for not providing mass commercialisation – so those looking for water parks and endless karaoke bars will need to look elsewhere. Portocolom has the largest natural harbour of the island, and claims to be birthplace of Christopher Columbus, whose voyages led to general European awareness of the American continents. It is a Mediterranean village with lots of flavor that is calm, relaxed, pleasant. And beautiful.

Be a role model

We encourage you to live the TriStar philosophy and to be an ambassador of the “YES, YOU CAN!” attitude. Give a mile to spectators and volunteers, play fair, be positive, care for the environment, respect the rules and your rivals. In short: Win your own challenge and enjoy!

The race course for TriStar111 and TriStar55.5 are identical. While 55.5 participants will one lap of each discipline, 111 starters will do each lap twice. The swim will be held in the bay of the port of Porto Colom, to continue on a cycle route that takes you to the spectacular climb of San Salvador, known amongst thousands of triathletes and cyclists who visit Mallorca every year, with a height of 494 meters and an incredible panoramic view of the island’s southeast coast. The run will pass through the historic town of Porto Colom, taking you some of its beaches (you have to get to the lighthouse and back) before crossing the finish line of the TriStar Mallorca. Yes, you can!

is radiant as spring settles in the calendar. Too often, the image of tourists enjoying the sunny days in winter on spring beaches of white sand filled up to the last spot with parasols announced the arrival of the heat. Not so in Portocolom. It’s heyday in nature, also the start of an intense cultural and festive agenda that will not stop until the end of the summer. See more information on www.infomallorca.net

¡Next Stop: Madrid!

In 2011 there will be another TriStar race in Spain: On 3 July, come to the Casa di Campo in Madrid and enjoy TriStar111 Madrid. It’s a drafting race, and on 2 July there will be a brand new TEAM event T111.

Mallorca has long received the nickname “island of calm.” Although many are attracted to the Balearic island by the beach bashes, it’s also synonymous with relaxation, good weather, peace and places far away from everyday normality, where you can pamper yourself and take care of your body and mind..

TriStar Mallorca is synonymous for fun and quality. Another pillar of TriStar is social responsibility, therefor the event supports ASPANABOB. This institution is one hundred percent local, and helps parents of children suffering from cancer of the Balearic Islands. The ASPANABOB association was established in 1987, by a group of parents who joined forces with the intention of working to improve the quality of life for all Balearic cancer patients from 0 to 18 years, and their families. Together with LIVESTRONG™, TriStar Mallorca supports the institution, and all donations will go directly to ASPANABOB without any detours! Please, show you care, come to the LIVESTRONG™ booth, make a donation and wear the Livestrong wristband as your visible sign of your support for those who suffer from cancer. ¡Gracias!

That’s why Star Events are committed to environmental protection in collaboration with the 4vita.org association. Take care about nature as much as you care about your body. You want to enjoy life!

TriStar approach race organisation in the same way I approach my racing.

CHRIS MCCORMACK, WORLD CHAMPION

¡¡¡Everybody is after Macca!!!

Chris McCormack MACCA

Macca, one of the most prominent triathletes, followed and admired accross the globe, will be at the starting line at TriStar Mallorca. The Australian triathlete is multiple world champion at various distances and possessor of the biggest triathlon titles: Macca is ITU World Champion and two times Ironman world champion. He was not only chosen sports personality of the year in Australia when he became Olympic triathlon champion, he also was named best international triathlete in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2006, and 2007. According to Triathlete Magazine, Macca is the “Triathlete of the Decade”.

Macca will have great rivals to face (well, or to shake off): Lothar Leder (the first man to go sub-8hrs in an Ironman), Ain-Alar Juhanson (2 times Lanzarote winner), Esben Hovgaard, Joel Jameson, the great Olivier Marceau - also triathlon world champion and Olympic triathlete. Late signups came in from Marcel Zamora, five times winner of Ironman Nice and one of the best triathletes in Spanish history; and Normann Stadler, two-times Ironman World Champion in Hawaii and McCormack’s great rival for years ... Can anyone beat Macca in Mallorca? On the female side, the likes of Kathrin Paetzold, Dr Lewis and Fatima Blazquez Lozano will be there to race for the win. The ‘Galàcticos’ of triathlon will be in Porto Colom, as the Spanish would say.

TriStar are pushing the endurance barriers and setting new unique challenges that are interesting and tough. I have committed to Tristar because they continue to present spectacular events that are designed with the athlete in mind. MACCA ABOUT TRISTAR

¡Buen viaje! Detailed Course descriptions

SWIM 0.5/1km

The first start will be given at 8:45 (TriStar111), and at 11:00, the TriStar55.5 will commence. The swim will take place in the port area, close to the Club Nautico, in the sheltered bay of Porto Colom. The swim is easy to follow for spectators. There are 300m to T1.

T1 swim/bike

After swimming, take your BIKE bag and change in the tent. Leave your wetsuit and goggles in the BIKE bag and drop it off when leaving the tent. Pick up your bike in the Bike Park and start the 50/100km of cycling.

BIKE 50/100km

Once out of the transition area, you will go on the 50 (one lap) or 100km (two laps) of cycling on a circuit that is entirely closed for traffic. Drafting is prohibited. And do not forget to enjoy the scenery! Recommended gear ratios 11x23 for PROs and 12x25 for Age Group Athletes.

T2 bike/run

RUN 5/10km

Finish Line

Relaxing Zone

Once you leave your bike securely in the Bike Park with the help of volunteers (parked in order of arrival), pick up your RUN bag and change in the tent. Drop off your bag when leaving the tent, and start the run!

After the loop or the two loops, you will reach the Finishline located in the Nautic Club. Celebrate with Friends, family and sport loving spectators when you cross the Finishline! Congratulations, you deserve your Finisher medal for completing the inaugural TriStar Mallorca! Yes, you can!

The run circuit consists of one or two laps (depending on the distance) on a very fast circuit of 5km. It will take you along some of the most typical and ancient streets of Porto Colom, out along the bachfront to the lighthouse and back to the port. Enjoy your last few meters on the Finishline! Yes, you can!

Enjoy the beach and a massage, eat and drink, get your medal engraving and finisher shirt, and simply enjoy with other athletes in the after-finish area. Only competitors are allowed here, no friends or family. You’re a living proof: Yes, you can!
