s b m January Edition EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH O’NIFEMI

Q4. Why and How did it all start I.e. your Music career? O’Nifemi: Well, the why is as a result of thirst and hunger to reach out to more souls outside my circle. While the how is as a result of a competition I once went for, it made me see some hidden treasure I couldn't see before the time Q5. What are the challenges you've faced so far in the course of your career? O’Nifemi: The challenges so far..... Well, the only thing I can point at as a major challenge here is not having what it takes to be producing myself yet, so as to reach out more often to as many as possible.

Q1. What is your full name sir? O’Nifemi: Ojo Oluwanifemi Ebenezer Q2. Can you tell us more about your background and education? O’Nifemi: . I am the only son of Mr. & Mrs. Ojo in the family of three, from Ajowa Akoko South Western part of Ondo State. I had both my primary, secondary, and tertiary education in Ondo State. I am a graduate of Federal University of Technology Akure, with B.Tech in Quantity Surveying. I observed my National Youth Service Corps in Osun State, where I reside for now. And currently the music coordinator of Kingsword International Church, Osogbo. Q3. What else do you do outside Music? O’Nifemi: I read and I love to learn from every single thing.

Q6. What are those things that keep you going...? What inspires you? O’Nifemi: The major thing that keeps me going is the fact that I'm confident that God is really involved in this. Relating it to a testimony of the boy that was dead for three days and God brought back to life just to confirm His promises over the song (I HAIL YOU) that He released through me sometimes ago. For such miracle to have been recorded, it is a sign that He is ready to do more if I am ready to keep receiving from Him. Therefore, I always press towards receiving so as to bless lives tremendously. Q7. Do you think Gospel Music Ministers should prioritize on rising to stardom?... As in becoming celebs O’Nifemi: Well, I believe that calling differs and ministry are in phases. Some receive songs just to write and get the songs delivered to those who can sing them; that is to say, we don't all have same strength and gifts per say. But priotizing the rising to stardom as a gospel minister would be based on an individual thing, reason being that becoming a celebrity is a journey on it's own, while retaining that position is another course. Therefore, I would rather say, priotizing the process of getting better and reaching out to more souls is better.

Q8. Is there any side effect if much of Gospel music ministers are not popular? Like Does it mean O’Nifemi: . Being popular shouldn't actually be the main thing here, it is really not a big deal provided you are affecting lives positively and you are having the sense of fulfilment towards the assignment God has placed in your hands, it is really not a big deal. But it can become a big deal by the time the minister starts imagining who he or she is not and trying to compare himself/herself with another minister. And if there would be side effect at all, it would be discouragement based on the expectations from people that ends up not working out nor yielding positive results.

Q9. What do you have to say about some Gospel music acts that have their major priority as rising to limelight... What effect does it have on the quality of their music? O’Nifemi: . This is very simple, anyone that falls into this category would definitely watch him/herself rise with speed, get a hit song that would go viral for a while, and after the moments, he/she would also watch him/herself come down gradually. The effect this has on thier music is loosing some fans they earlier got. Such minister might not have the capacity to push another song in order to retain the frequency gained by the initial one Q10. How can we solve the problem of Gospel musicians not getting enough platform to showcase their talents and gifts? O’Nifemi: To my best knowledge, let each church start celebrating her artists, by so doing it would birth more greatness in the artists. Let music have more concentration in our churches and let there be encouragements from both the pastors and church members, that alone goes a long way. Supporting what the artist in your church does in your full capacity is priceless, and it means a whole lot

s b m January Edition Q11. What is your advice for other Gospel Music Ministers? O’Nifemi: My own advice is for us to be more focused, be sure of the calling and not relenting on achieving the goal. One of the goals is knowing that someone somewhere is always blessed anytime he or she remembers your (the artist) name. Q12. What can you say about Star Buzz Magazine? O’Nifemi: Star Buzz Magazine is actually a great initiative; it is a platform to also reach out to more souls. Kudos to the management, I celebrate you! Thanks for your time sir.

Tabitha Talks

Relationship It’s natural to get impatient in everyday life maybe there was a delay and you need to quickly get home from work to do somethings, challenges are bound to occur. There’s no place where impatience is not welcomed, except in a relationship. The demands of patience in a relationship are the time and effort. By been patient and understanding each other every day, you can work together to create a happy and healthy relationship. Consider your partner’s feelings. If you are patient and kind with your partner, they will feel loved and adored. If you are impatient and intolerant, your partner is likely to feel rejected by you. Your actions and reactions can have a direct effect on how your partner feels, so think about this when you’re feeling impatient or frustrated.

s b m January Edition HOW TO BE A GREAT CHOIR DIRECTOR Every choir director should STUDY their choir members "Know them which labour among you" (I Thessalonians 5:12) Your choir sound is going to be its best if the music works with your choir's best abilities and talents. Get to know their strengths and weaknesses. What vocal ranges do the singers have? Listen to how high and low they can go before they start cracking or sounding strained. Are they able to do a song where the tenors have to sing an A-flat, or will you need to change the key? (There is no law that says every choir has to do a song in the same key that the original artist did.)

To teach music, you have to know music! "Study to show thyself approved" (II Timothy 2:15) If you're going to teach music to others, you need to understand how music works. Get familiar with the basics of music theory -- scales and keys, chords and harmony. There are lots of books and websites that can help you get into these concepts if you're not familiar with them. Once you decide on a song that you're going to teach, get to know that song backward and forward. Know what key you're doing it in. Learn each part (soprano, alto, tenor) until you have them memorized and you can sing each one yourself. Choosing choir songs with the right message "A word fitly spoken" (Proverbs 25:11) As a church choir director, the songs you perform in a service are your opportunity to bring a message to those who have come to fellowship. The songs are your sermon. What should you preach? You know lots of songs that are meaningful and blessed. Which songs will be best for which types of performances? Take time to contemplate the setting where you will be singing and choose songs that are a good fit for the service.

Therefore, every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. -Matthew 13:52 Some musicians seem to have the idea that only contemporary gospel music is attractive. Others think that only old music is truly spiritual. Don't let your choir members fall into either of those traps! Teach them how to appreciate all different styles of gospel music. When you teach a song, it's YOURS Songwriters are not God . . . and their words and music don't have to be treated like they're scripture carved in stone. If there's a portion of a song that you don't care for, change it! Maybe the message of the song is great, but there's just a couple of lines that are off base. Or maybe there's a musical line that you think will sound better a different way. Rearrange it! Bring your vision and your interpretation to the song. Teaching songs to your choir: Repetition is the key Drill, baby, drill! As we all know, gospel choirs usually don't use sheet music. We sing by ear, by heart. That means that everything we sing has to be memorized. I hope you have find this helpful, for more of such articles refer to the editorial team of Star Buzz Magazine.
