Brand the boring Challenge 'Brand the Boring', involves branding a company that is commonly un-interesting. The challenge is to brand a, Cobblers, a company that is not visually or physically interesting. Create a concept and identity, which brings the brand to life, intern allowing them to stand out amongst similar companies. Solution The brief is based around the idea that cobblers repair and bring life back to the shoe. While keeping the history, heritage, culture and recognition already associated with cobblers. The concept was based around the slogan ‘Saving Soles since 1989’ this gives the representation that they are saving peoples Souls/soles. Crafty soles is the name of the brand to represent the craft and talent of the cobblers.

Research into this profession was important as cobblers have been around for along time, but not many people know exactly how long and what they use to do before they became know for what they do now. My research allowed me to look at the heritage and profession internal to see how this could be translated into a more interesting and creative project.

Development of the initial logo design is important as it allows me to adjust the design to make it standout as much as possible. While the development shall help me to see what parts of the design works and what doesn’t it also allows me to gain feedback from students of professional bodies regarding the design work produced so far.

These are the final items produced for the Cobblers brief, these designs have been produced in response to the brief given by Elmwood, they have been developed through formal critiques and development sessions to produce the most successful concept as possible. The concept relating to the brief is the idea of crafty soles and how they have saved soles since 1989. The use of colour represents the company and the materials they work with. Making the brand have more personlity by playing with the concept upon other aspects of the brand such as the priority card.
