EXTENDED PRACTICE STATEMENT OF INTENT Name: Stephanie Pickard Blog Address: http://s-pickard1114.blogspot.co.uk Statement of intent: Throughout this year I intend to develop my brand, packaging and promotion skills. These are the main areas within graphic design I feel most enthusiastic about. I am looking to challenge my self and prepare for working within the creative industry; looking to help ready myself with industry placements throughout this year. I hope to create and gather a range of connections with creative individuals that can help and support my jump from university to industry.

I have produced a range of briefs that shall help push my creative competencies to there limits allowing me to produced the best, creative, dynamic and innovative pieces of work to date. I look to also take part within live and competition briefs, this comes with great anticipation, off the back of the YCN commendation I received.

My briefs I have created, are focused around my three strengths. I have tried to spread them across a range of subjects; this shall give them a wider exposure to graphic design across the spectrum.

While these briefs are only a pinch of slat within the creative industry they shall allow me to produce a range of professional portfolio pieces that shall allow me to stand out against other graduates.

I look to develop my printing skills with the facilities available; this shall give me the experience and knowledge that will be needed in industry. Together with my design skills I hope to produce a range of prints that are to a professional standard.

Subjects / Themes Brand an Identity, Packaging and Promotional material.

Design Disciplines / Creative Development Packaging Design This is a subject I would like to focus upon as I have a keen interest within this area; I have limited experience with packaging and would like to increase my knowledge within this design area. .

Exploring package design will also allow me to tackle 3-dimentian final pieces and solutions that

can be more tactile and impactful. I aim to look and gain skills within this area as I hope to further my career within this field of design.

Promotional Design While I have done a lot of promotional design within the last two years, I would like to carry on my learning within this. This shall allow me to produce more professional piece of work. I aim to undertake projects that challenge me to engage with different audiences and promote brands and events; this will allow me to produce a range of printed material and interesting solutions.

Branding & Brand Strategies Branding is an area I am focusing on a lot within this year; branding is something I have enjoyed and engaged with during the course in previous years and hope to continue developing and extending my knowledge and skills within this area.

Practical Skills / Workshops – what, why and when?

Printing I look to develop my printing skills with the facilities available; this shall give me the experience and knowledge that will be needed in industry. Together with my design skills I hope to produce a range of prints that are to a professional standard.

3D design I am hoping to develop new skills and techniques within a different field of design, Looking at 3-dimentional designs and packaging will hopefully allow me to gain new skills and push me to create more physical items that can be seen in context and appear more realistic. Looking at structural design and how to design for different formats and dimensions will be an interesting challenge.
