I know right, you are probably saying how in the world could I be poisoning myself. Wouldn’t you think I would know if I was poisoning myself? In order to survive you need to eat. Well what if I tell you what your eating can put you in the hospital.

Ntibiotics:Did

you know, that antibiotics are in our food now, and not just for the sick. It is in our meat, our livestock, and our poultry. The problem with feeding our livestock antibiotics is that our livestock are not sick it just kills off weak bacteria and creates a perfect environment for antibiotics. 80% of all antibiotics sold in America are always used for livestock and poultry… not humans.

P

esticides:you

may not know it, but food companies are sending people to the hospital, by using pesticides. You may not know what pesticides are, I certainly didn’t until I researched it, and what I found might surprise you. They our used for keeping bugs away from their crops. Some facts that might surprise you is that each year a billion pounds of pesticides are sprayed in fields across the country. Sacramento, California, had 27 health, water, and environmental violations due to the use of pesticides. The groups were called for unfertile statewide spraying for pests. There was a huge accident where 250 people became violently ill, because the pesticides blew in from potato fields.

1. 2. Coil is a bacterial diseases that affects the digestive system. Its scientific name is Escherichia. Most cases are harmless or cause brief diarrhea. More severe cases of E. Coil (0157:H7) can cause severe abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Healthy adults can recover from E. Coil (0157:H7) within a week. Kids and older adults can have life-threating cases that can form into kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome. The symptoms of E. Coil usually begin three to four days after exposer to bacteria. How you get E. Coil is by eating or being exposed to contaminate food. Primarily ground beef, unpasteurized dairy products, fresh produce, contaminated water; rivers, lakes, irrigated water, and some swimming pools. You can also get E. Coil by spreading it from

person to person if they did not wash hands probably. You can also be exposed to E. Coil if you go to a petting zoos and animal barns at county fairs. There is no vaccine or medication to cure E. Coil, but rest and drinking plenty of fluids will help. Taking anti-diarrhea medication actually slows down the digestive systems and makes your symptoms last longer. So doctors do not suggest taking those type of medications. Make sure your hamburger meat is always cooked at 160*F to kill bacteria. Call your doctor as soon as possible if your have bad diarrhea that is persistent, is severe, or bloody. *****

STOP Dumping WASTE IN Our OCEANS

Don’t Admire the Fire Don’t admire the fire! Have you heard of any habitat destruction? You can find out some information about this if you read the rest of this hot article! I think you would’ve heard of how forest fires are something disastrous. But most of us don’t know what happens when a forest fire occurs. Forest fires can be a very dangerous, and we need to do something about this. Forest fires are bad enough, but what does it do? Forest fires burn the trees in the forest. This is very harmful to animals because the animals in the forest have homes there. When these homes are burned, they have nowhere else to live. They have only a limited number of choices to do, and they definitely aren’t the ones you or I would pick! These effects are very harmful because burnt homes are not good to live in. But what exactly causes these fires. Let’s find out! Most of the time, humans are the ones who cause habitat destruction. Forest fires are caused by careless people who don’t know what they are doing. Most causes are the expansion of agricultural land, wood for fuel, and also intensive harvesting of timber. These people do not know what harmful things they are doing to the poor animals who are just trying to live. Sometimes we need these things, but sometimes we need to limit this.

These people need to think about the safety of plants, animals, and people. This is very dangerous to all organisms around the area. Sometimes people would do arson and destroy the forests. Other people use something like a cigarette and drop it on the floor. Some objects that expand to the formation of the fire are leaves, grass and logs. Also, weather contributes to the expansion of fire. This makes it very hard for the wildfire to stop because it turns out to be out of control. This can be even more dangerous than a regular wildfire because it is very hard to maintain it or stop it. There are three important materials that you need to have to produce a forest fire. You need these materials to make any fire, but this article is about forest fires. The three materials that you need are fuel, oxygen, and a heat source. If you have these all together when you go camping, watch them very carefully, in case of a forest fire. These wildfires occur in most of the 50 states. They are most common in the west portion of the United States. The states like Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, and California are the states that wildfires occur most in.

Another cause of the forest fires is when people camp, it produces fires. They don’t attend to the fires or don’t pay attention to the fires.

There are a few ways to take care of a wildfire, but you need to be very careful when you do so. One for the ways can be to clear the vegetation so the fire breaks. As mentioned earlier, fuel is one of the materials you need to have to make a fire. If you cut that source off, the fire will slow down or contain itself.

Hopefully now you see that forest fires are a very bad conflict of nature, but you can also stop it. The way to stop it is that you prevent

lighting your campfire or any object by grass or trees. These are natural fuels of fires and they are prone to catching on fire.

You should clear the area of any natural flammable debris. This is also very dangerous

burning dead or decaying matter. If there were any diseases spreading in the forest, the fire would get rid of that too. Also, wildfires also allow for sunlight to pass through to the forest floor and let new seedlings to grow.

because it is something that can turn into flames in a few seconds if not attended to or if just not taken care of properly. This is a very vital key point because this is also one of the big reasons why forest fires happen. You yourself can protect people from forest fires, but you need to be cautious of what you are doing yourself! The key idea that people need to understand is that we should not think that forests are just trees. Burning trees is bad enough, but there are many helpless animals in there that don't want to die.

Since trees and plants are the way we get oxygen, we need them, so we shouldn't let them burn. Well, hopefully now you know how important forests are, and how dangerous forest fires are. So now, hopefully you will be careful of your actions. Keep fighting wildfires! ________________ Forest lawn, (2014).Wild land fire management [Picture].Retrieved from http://forestry.ky.gov/wildlandfiremanagement /Pages/default.aspx Huffingtonpost,(2014).Wild fire season[picture].Retrieved from http: //www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/10/03/bcwildfire-season-2013_n_4037600.html

Sometimes, when the forest fires are from natural causes, it is good for the forests. This is because they return nutrients to the soil by Ny daily news,(2014).Italian forest fire[Picture].Retrieved from http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/riveting-photos-show-devastation-italian-forest-fires-article1.1362087

Is it hot out here? out here? Is it hot

Many things have caused Global Warming throughout the years; humans are the main reason for this. Some of the examples of humans causing Global Warming are we burn fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal. This

.

causes the release of carbon dioxide (CO2), and “greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Losing the forests only makes it worse. People are cutting down forests so there is no way for trees to make oxygen from carbon dioxide. This means more CO2 stays in the atmosphere, trapping more heat.

Over the past 50 years the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. Scientists say that unless we lower the use of things that cause climate change, average U.S. temperatures could be about 3 to 9 degrees higher by the end of the century. Because of Global Warming hotter air increases water evaporation for the oceans and a warmer atmosphere can also hold more water than a cooler atmosphere. This warmer atmosphere can increase weather events. There are also more droughts and wildfires because of this. The weather takes away the moisture of dry areas making them easier to become wildfires. Researchers have also concluded that climate change could also have many challenges to human health, such as: the risk of illness and death, and diseases. Serious increases in the risk of illness and death are related to extreme heat and heat waves. There are also some diseases transferred by food, water, and insects that will be likely to happen. There are certain groups containing children, elders, and poor people that will be vulnerable to the climaterelated health effects.

America. There is more vegetation in Canada, and it is now becoming more common there. Also, forests are being wiped out by bark beetles. They create tunnels in the bark of the tree, causing trees to disappear. The reason for this is winters haven't been cold enough to kill off the beetles. The result of this is that they have destroyed forests the size of Washington State. Another effect is that droughts have hit crops, which means that prices of many foods have raised especially meat and dairy. Allergies and disease have also been an effect from Global Warming. Climate change could cause pollen to double in about 30 years, causing more allergies. For example a disease that is spreading because of global warming is called Cholera. This disease attacks the small intestine and causes diarrhe a and vomitin g.

There are also animals being affected by Global Warming. One of the animals being affected are Polar Bears. The main threat to the polar bears is the loss of the sea ice caps because of Global Warming. There are many ways that polar bears are

impacted because of global warming, some ways are that their population size is decreasing, sea ice caps are moving farther apart and swimming conditions are more dangerous for the Polar Bears. There are also fewer hunting opportunities which increase the scarcity of food. People believe that by 2050 two thirds of the polar bears will be gone. In many places like Canada and Hudson Bay there is no sea ice during the summer so the polar bears must live on land until the Bay freezes in the fall, so they can go hunt on the ice again. While on land during the summer, these bears eat little or nothing. In just 20 years the ice-free period in Hudson Bay has increased by about 20 days, cutting the polar bears' seal hunting season by almost three weeks. The ice is freezing later in the fall, but it is the earlier spring ice melt that is especially difficult for the bears. They have a narrower period of time in which to hunt during the season when seal pups are born. As a result, average bear weight has dropped by 15 percent, causing reproduction rates to decline. The Hudson Bay population is down more than 20 percent.

But there is a solution to stop this; it is to burn less fossil fuel. There some cars that are made to run cleaner and burn less gas. We also should modernize power plants and generate electricity from nonpolluting sources, and cut our electricity use through energy efficiency. Those are a couple of ways to help but there is also many other ways to help put a stop to Global Warming. ****** "Climate Change: Catastrophe in the Making." Environmental Defense Fund. N.p., n.d. Put the Breaks on Foul Wind! As all of mankind searches for more energy sources and new ones, meanwhile, humans pollute the air. Air quality is taken for granted since humans are constantly using gases everyday air pollution can both happen on the inside and outside. Air pollution is the cause of global

warming which could affect the environment by melting parts of the poles and could eventually kill sum of the polar animals, melting glaciers will cause droughts, rising sea levels that cause floods. Carbon dioxide and greenhouse house is the main pollutant that is warming Earth.

Smog hanging over the cities is the most familiar and oblivious form of air pollution, but there are different kinds of pollution. Some pollution invisible and some are visible - they all cause the global warming. The thing that cause the pollutions are planes, cars, power plants, and other human activities that involve burning of fossil fuels like gasoline and natural gas. When the global warning start is cause the ice in the north and south poles are melted the polar bear are can’t survive because they have to stand on the ice to catch seal to eat but when the ice melt they can’t catch seal to eat. Seal has to stay on the ice when they born but when to ice melt baby seal still cannot move yet, they has to stay on ice until they grown up. The hot heat, smoke, and smog cover the whole country and it

can change the world. The other pollutant associated with the climate change is sulfur dioxide. In fact volcanoes use to be the main source of the sulfur dioxide; today people are. Some industrialized countries work to reduce the level sulfur dioxide, smog, and smoke to improve the people health. But for the insult the sulfur dioxide level lower is cause the global warming. In United States, electric power plant emit about 2.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide to the air each year. Furthermore, the updated analysis demonstrates there are various paths, not just one, to achieve dramatic reductions in the carbon pollution power plants release through a range of solutions that they rely, to varying degrees, on energy efficiency, wind energy, and carbon capture and storage.

Original power plant carbon reduction proposal, released in December 2012, has been widely seen as a possible model for standards the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is developing as part of the Administration's National Climate Action Plan. The EPA has taken important first steps by setting standards that will cut the carbon pollution from automobiles and trucks nearly in half by 2025 and by proposing

standards to limit the carbon pollution from new power plants. Now the EPA is working on tackling the CO2 pollution from hundreds of existing fossil-fueled power plants in the United States.

Stop Resource Depletion

Don’t Be Selfish

THE MORE YOU BURN, THE LESS YOU EARN!

Do you want a polluted earth? Stop burning fossil Fuels! There are various different ways of using energy wisely. If you want to make a difference, start using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels! Instead of burning coal, natural gas, or even, oil or fuel, you can use windmills, hydropower, or solar power units. Fossil fuels are formed by the remains of dead animals or plants. Humans are causing this! You don’t always need to take a car, a bus, or a train. There are many

transportations.

earth will be no more. Burning all

these fossil fuels causes many environmental issues such as global warming. Using a hybrid car is another way to stop pollution problems. Hybrid cars don’t burn fossil fuels, therefore eliminating pollution. There are many ways to stop creating so much pollution. Only you can stop this toxic pollution! Many people don’t understand just how harmful pollution emitted from factories, cars, and buses are. If these harmful pollution causes are not stopped, our earth will be doomed for our future generations.

We spoke to Mrs. Morgan our science teacher last year and she said, “This is an issue your generation will have to solve, otherwise our Earth will be destroyed.” Using solar power is an excellent way to cut down

Wind turbines are good in areas with a lot of wind. Kansas, Texas, and Nebraska all are naturally windy and breezy. Wind turbines are relatively cheap and cost little when compared to their savings. They are also good sources of renewable energy. While most of us Americans’ houses aren’t powered by wind turbines, solar power, or hydropower we can still cut down on pollution. Carpooling helps a lot since we drive less cars and cut down on pollution while only taking a single car. Riding a local bus is also another great way of eliminating pollution. Walking or biking are other great ways to not produce any pollution at all. It just takes a little bit of muscle and you have caused a positive effect on our planet earth. The Water Wipe Out Major storms and other types of incidents can be highly disruptive to water

systems. Fish and animals can get unusual parasites from bad water quality.

B

ottled water is bad for the environment

W

ater Quality is a growing issue that

can lead to the death of many people and animals; this could be a major problem for societies. To stop pollution, the San Juan County is attempting to supply water for generations to come. It will end decades of unsustainable groundwater. Of course just one effort will not quench the thirst that could swallow the world; there are many water plants that are working to make nonuseable water usable.

because it wastes fossil fuels in production and transport. Also, some people litter their water bottles around the earth and in water. Water quality is very low from what it should be. If you pollute the water you are poisoning your society.

Aside from fresh water standards, there are drinking water standards. There are drinking water standards so that you, your family, friends, pets, and other animals do not get sick. If there were no drinking water standards, we would all be really sick with unusual parasites, other sicknesses, and this may also lead to death. A lot of the time I bet you think “Is it safe for me to drink tap water?” It is safe in New Mexico because your water comes from you’re your own private well that you make sure is healthy and clean. So as long as you are doing your part in keeping your water clean, you are perfectly safe. These are just a few ways to save the water. Join a club in the community to get involved. Speak up against pollution and share your opinion. Spread the word about pollution and make sure that people know what is wrong with our water, how to fix it, and how to take a stand. TODAY ENDANGERED, TOMORROW EXTINCT! Everyone has heard of some obvious endangered species such as pandas or tigers; but there are many that are quite unknown. Our world is slowly killing off some of our most majestic and relatively harmless animals. Through pollution and pesticides (see pg. 15-16), we are harming them without realizing it.. Whales Whales are at a higher risk of extinction now than they ever have been. A whale relies on its hearing for everything in which supporting its life is being affected by human caused noise pollution. Some human cause noise pollution is distributed through air guns used in oil explorations and submarines. Sonar is also affecting their hearing; sonar is either coming from ships or the military. These human caused noises are affecting whales in their habitat because hearing is the main sense that a whale depends on. If a whale can’t hear then it will deprive

them of food and such needs for living that can lead to starvation and many other serious issues. Gray Wolves Wolves have been killed in staggering numbers since the late 19th and 20th centuries. It all started when wolves were kicked off the endangered species list, which opened the door for hunters to kill wolves. Wolves also help the wild, such as how they keep the elk and deer population under control which can help the plants and animals. Also the left over prey or dead animals will help supply food for other wildlife such as the grizzly bear. The wolves also need a large living space like forests or mountainous regions. The NRDC are trying to keep people from killing too many wolves at one time. The population of the wolves is only about 7,000 to 11,200 left, which may go down soon.

Rhinoceros

Endangered Species are Everyone’s Problem

Two species of rhino in Asia– Javan and Sumatran – are critically endangered. A subspecies of the Javan rhino was declared extinct in Vietnam in 2011. A small population of the Javan rhino still clings for survival on the Indonesian island of Javan. Many rhinos are being killed for their horns. Some cultures create daggers called “jambiyas”. These dagger’s handles are made of rhinoceros horns.

Many organizations have opened endangered animal sanctuaries. Several centers allow donations and sponsors to be made. Anyone can help and those animals can use as much help as possible.
