BLOWN AWAY Air pollution affects everyone on the earth including animals, humans, and plants. Certain chemicals can trigger asthma. Other chemicals can make any human or animal sick and have respiratory problems. Any air pollution can make you sick and unhealthy. So how can we stop it? What does air pollution contain? Air pollution is filled with dangerous toxins, smoke, fumes, chemicals, and more. Air pollution is worse in some places and not as bad in others. In Beijing, the air quality is extremely dangerous and the toxic chemicals could harm people. In fact, most people wear masks to protect themselves from breathing in dirty air. Pollution is measured in the atmosphere by concentration. In Beijing, one of the top ten worst air quality cities, it is measured by Real Time Air Quality Index (AQI). What causes air pollution? Air pollution is caused by many things. Human activity causes most of it, but some of it occurs naturally.
An example of human contributions to air pollution is emissions from industries and manufacturing activities. Manufacturing plants emit lots of carbon monoxide, organic compounds, and chemicals in the air as waste. Another example is the burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are used by heavy duty trucks, trains, shipping vessels, cars, and airplanes. Cars emit a lot of toxic gasses, so it is one of the main reasons of air pollution. Since billions of people drive cars every day, it is extremely difficult to find solutions to this problem. What are some ways to prevent air pollution? In this modern day and timelution is almost inevitable. But, according to www.epa.gov there are definitely some ways to solve it. You could drive and electric car, which produces much less waste and is better for the environment. For your heath, minimize sun exposure and wear sun block and UV protection sunglasses. Air pollution can cause
asthma and also affect people who have already have asthma. If you want to find out how much air pollution is in your area, www.gizmag.com says there is an android app called “Visibility” to find out. All you have to do is take a picture of the sky and you will receive a message telling you how polluted the air is at your location. This is only one of the many ways to get involved in helping air pollution decrease and your health. Air quality in Beijing Although not the worst air polluted city in the world, Beijing is definitely at the top. With the air full of toxic chemicals, it makes it hard to breath. Most people wear masks to protect their lungs from the microscopic pieces of chemicals that damage their throats and lungs. Many factories in Beijing produce lots of waste, and according to www.nytimes.com the number of cars on Beijing’s street has been multiplying at an astounding rate. There may never be a way to solve air pollution, but every little thing you do to prevent air pollution
keeps the air just a little bit cleaner every day. Recources: Why Should You Be Concerned about Air Pollution? | Plain English Guide to The Clean Air Act." EPA. Environmental Protection Agency, n.d. Food poisoning also known as foodborne illness or foodborne disease is any illness from contaminated food. Harmful bacteria are the most common cause of food poisoning, but other causes are parasites, viruses, toxins, and contaminants. The organisms that cause the most illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths in the United States are: salmonella, norovirus, campylobacter, toxoplasma, e coli 0157, listeria, and clostridium perfringens. One in six Americans will get sick from food poisoning this year. The most common symptoms are abdominal cramp, nausea; vomiting and diarrhea, however symptoms can get worse blood in the stool, dehydration can occur if not treated well. Treatment of food poisoning avoid dehydrated by eating fruits mostly.
However you can prevent food poisoning by: clean: wash your hands and surfaces often, rinse fruits and vegetables under running water. Separate: don’t cross contaminate even after you have cleaned your hand and surfaces such as raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs. Cook: cook to the right temperature. Make sure it’s ready, don’t think it’s ready just by its color and texture use a food thermometer to check if it’s perfect. Chill: keep your refrigerator below 40F degrees and refrigerate foods properly. Most causes of food poisoning in the u.s. have good outcomes because they usually resolve quickly a person may have several symptoms and the outcome may range from good to poor. Food poisoning can go from good to worse it is caused by contaminated food make sure you clean, separate, cook and chill to avoid getting food poisoning. E coli usually live in the intestines of people and animals. E
coli are harmless and actually important for the human intestine tract. However some e coli are pathogenic meaning they can cause illness either diarrhea or illness outside the intestinal tract. The type of e coli that can cause diarrhea can be transmitted through contaminated water or food. Toxoplasma is considered a leading cause of death attributed to food poisoning in the United States. More than 60 million men, women, and children in the u.s. carries the toxoplasma parasite, but very few have no symptoms because the immune system usually keeps the parasite from causing illness. Salmonella is a type of food poisoning caused by the salmonella enterica bacterium. There are many
different types of these bacteria. Salmonella serotype typhimurium and salmonella serotype enteritdis are the most common types in the United States. Noroviruses are also called Norwalk-like viruses and Cali viruses. Campylobacter is food poisoning caused by the campylobacter bacterium. It is one of the most common causes of diarrhea in the United States, affecting more than 2.4 million people every year. Listeria monocytogens bacteria are commonly found in soil; dust; water; sewage; unpasteurized cheeses such as brie, mozzarella, and blue cheese; and uncooked vegetables. These bacteria can enter through contaminated food or water. Foods contaminated with listeria can cause outbreaks of meningitis. ****

The arctic ice glaciers are melting and the polar bears are running out of space and place to live polar bears can swim but they can’t swim forever in the picture there is a piece of ice with a polar bear on it. The piece of ice this polar bear is floating on for dear life is slowly but surely melt he does not have much time until it melts and this innocent and equally helpless is stranded and left to his own devices and skills. This ice berg melting is caused by something called climate change. Climate change is when the inside of Earth’s atmosphere gets warmer and warmer. Climate change is one of the most endangering things we face as humans as it threatens our very livelihood every minute. Americans are seeing even more and more intense
Transitioning To Clean Energy Renewable energy is helping our country to take away the amount of bad emissions that can build on to planet wide climate change. In order to keep our public areas safe from the harmful effects of energy development, the wilderness society is focusing on finding more seasons, several droughts are seen all through American states and towns in the southwestern part of the U.S are drying up as they lose their very small and insufficient water sources. The wilderness society is committed to backing up rules that take away carbon emissions and other greenhouse gasses. Suitable areas for clean energy development to occur without leaving a big carbon footprint.
Climate Change In Detail We are aware that man-made climate change is real and that and that it is a great threat to the planet earth and its inhabitants. Current information tells us that we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developed countries by at least 80% by 2050 in order to have a chance of remaining below an average of 2o C. Factory farming is a major factor to the climate change challenge, putting out vast amounts of greenhouse gasses. Stabilizing the global climate is the most intense challenge of the twenty first century. Temperatures
EPA protection
Since 1970, the Environmental Protection Agency has protected public health by setting and enforcing standards to protect the quality of earths air involving the melting of ice caps on the poles and endangered species of animals with carbon reduction with restrictions on output of cars and other non-natural sources of extra carbon. In Montana, the wilderness society is fighting an up-stream battle to save the wests bull trout and west-slope cut throat trout from the damaging effects of climate change. A climate that is constantly warming is making some of Montana’s mountain streams are too hot for the native trout that have previously made home in. As temperatures rise in these important fish are being forced to flee their historic stomping-grounds in order to survive. http://wilderness.org/climate%20change?gclid=CPrr2MK9jMICFU-CMgodiHAA-A
Let Them BEaver! From panda bears to platypus, habitat destruction is a problem in our world today. Imagine if one day you woke up without a home, and all of your hard effort had gone to waste! This is what beavers in North America go through. They spend several weeks, if not months, building their homes, and this is not an easy process. They burrow in the banks of rivers and lakes. First, they do this by collecting wood. They place the wood down into the water and continue to stack it, piece by piece. Since they have strong teeth, and powerful jaws, they cut down trees with their teeth. Very slowly, it creates its home in the water. Typical dens are eight feet by three feet. This provides them with enough room to nurture and care for their young beavers,
and it also provides protection from the outside world. For several years, people have been destroying the beaver’s homes for damming purposes. This leaves them without shelter. In many cases, the beavers are taken to zoos or killed. If they are not, they are left without a home. This means they have to start all over again, and they may not live. If they try to re-build their home, it would most likely be destroyed again. Not only do beaver dams provide a home for beavers, but they help with other forms of life. This helps to create a functioning ecosystem. For example, it helps to filter sediment that could destroy fish eggs. Recent studies have also shown that beaver dens increase the population of fish by eightynine percent! The struggle is real. If we don’t do anything
now, who will? You can help by voting against artificial damming. With your help, we can stop beaver habitat destruction once and for all.

Water W rks Although the beach may seem like just a fun place to hang out, the waves there could one day power the local factory, and maybe even your home. However, like you might expect, using waves as a renewable energy source has its ups and downs. These here are some of the advantages of using wave energy. First of all, water is a plentiful resource. Water, especially oceans, is a large part of the Earth’s surface. This also includes the fact that because of the never-ending water cycle, water is being re-used and
refreshed 24/7. Based on these facts, scientists think it will take millions of years before this resource runs out. Second, waves have a very large energy potential, making them an efficient source. The average wave has 30-40 kW of power for every meter of height. Third, it is very reliable, for waves are almost always in motion. Because of the moon’s gravity, they are active especially at night. In the winter, nighttime is also when heat energy is needed most. Finally, waves are area-efficient. For
example, a wave that is less than a square mile in size can provide enough energy to run about 20 average London homes.
could potentially harm the local wildlife. Although the power plants
Wave energy does have a couple downsides, however. First, it has effects on the inhabitants in the area. The power farms used to create this energy are often visible from the land and the water. This could cause conflicts with tourism and acceptance. People and animals living nearby would have a tough time adjusting to the noise and busy environment. The power plants and other buildings nearby are forced to have high restrictions on size and placement. Second is that these power plants are very expensive to run. Because wave energy is at an early stage of use, money is harder to get. These power plants are also not possible to run or even build without funding from the government.
This is diagram of the ratio of wave energy resources across the globe.
don’t pollute the air, fish have been reported to run into them, disturbing the group. This is an issue that needs to be resolved before it grows into a bigger issue. Overall, wave energy has more upsides than downsides, and more cities are trying to use this resource for a healthier energy option. `````
The last disadvantage is unsure, but http://inhabitat.com/floating-poseidon-power-plant-harnessesscientists are trying to do more the-wind-and-waves/ research on this problem. The issue http://aw-energy.com/es/energia-undimotriz/recursos-globales is that the power plants themselves, http://energyinformative.org/wave-energy-pros-and-cons/ which actually process the energy, This is a diagram of the ratio of resources for wave energy across the globe.
