POĂ S VOLCANO

It is a sub-conical volcano built up by many layers of hardened lava located in the Central Volcanic Range of Costa Rica. Poas Volcano actually has two craters and has also become a very popular attraction for international visitors and tourists. Poas Volcano National Park is also just a short scenic drive (within an hour) of San Jose so its close proximity attracts a lot of locals as well.

THE PARK

The main crater is located at a height of 2,300 m, with a diameter of approximately 1.7 km and a depth of 300 m. It is the world's biggest geyser crater and it has one of the most acidic lakes. The second Poas Volcano crater called Botos Lagoon is much smaller. This crater is inactive and holds a body of cold fresh water that feeds into two Costa Rica rivers. This active volcano last two eruptions were in 1952 and 1954.

LA PAZ WATERFALL GARDENS

La Paz ("the peace") is a waterfall in central Costa Rica. In Spanish, it is known as Catarata de La Paz. It is 31 kilometers (19 mi) north of Alajuela, between Vara Blanca and Cinchona. The waterfall is located immediately alongside the road from Alajuela that leads to the northern plains of Costa Rica. The River La Paz forms the waterfall after traversing 8 kilometers (5 mi) of volcanic terrain, and then continues through the rainforest of the eastern side of Poรกs Volcano. A short path leads behind the waterfall, where a small shrine had been located. Upstream from the waterfall is La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a hotel and park, where visitors can observe many different species of local wildlife. At La Paz Waterfall gardens you will not only experience the raw power of nature but also its softer side. This is home to the largest butterfly observatory in the world, five waterfalls, lush tropical rain forest, flowing white rivers, birds, monkeys, sloths, snakes, frogs and jaguars. You are guaranteed to see all that and more.
