As temperatures continue to rise, it’s the perfect time to hit the beach and cool down in the surf. It doesn’t take any time to gather the family together and head for the sandy shores of Durrat Al-Bahrain, whether it is for a fun Jet Ski ride, a splash in the sea, or a trip on a motorboat. Although these watercrafts are fun to use they need to be operated with safety in mind. Being more conscious about the safety procedures regarding these crafts will make visiting the beach a fun experience for all of us.

‫ إن األمر ال يستغرق وقت ًا‬.‫ فقد حان الوقت المناسب لالنطالق إلى الشاطئ والقفز في الماء‬،‫مع بدء استمرار درجات الحرارة باالرتفاع‬ ‫ سواء كان ذلك لالستمتاع بركوب الجت سكي أو القفز في‬،‫طوي ًال لتجمع أفراد العائلة والتوجه نحو السواحل الرملية لدرة البحرين‬ ‫ إ ّال أنه يجب تشغيلها مع وضع‬،‫ ورغم أن جميع هذه األجهزة البحرية سهلة االستخدام‬.‫الماء أو االستمتاع برحلة على متن قارب آلي‬ ‫ إنّ االهتمام بإجراءات السالمة المتعلقة باستخدام هذه القطع البحرية سيجعل من زيارتكم للساحل‬.‫مسألة السالمة بعين االعتبار‬ .‫تجربة مثيرة ومسلّية لنا جميعا‬ Our beaches are perfect for swimming, but it’s a good idea to do a quick check of the beach yourself when you get there. For example, is the tide in or out? Is the beach busy? Is there anyone on jet skis or kayaks? This allows you to assess any obvious dangers before settling down for the day.

No doubt your children will be excited to spend time on the beach however, before they race off, make sure that they are accompanied by an adult to ensure that they are supervised at all times.

Durrat Al Bahrain’s beaches have designated swim zones, easily identified by buoys between the islands’ fish tails. These protect swimmers by keeping them away from currents and rough areas and also prevent kayaks and jet skis from entering. Even with these kinds of precautions in place, it’s advisable to remain alert at all times. This is especially the case when using inflatables in the water, which can rapidly be swept away by the tide or currents. If taking out a boat, kayak or Jet Ski is more up your street, keep away from the shore, always wear a life jacket and insist that your family do the same. The following are a few tips you may want to consider:

Before taking off: • Check the weather forecast to avoid being out in an unruly climate.

• Make sure that the vessel has enough gas, and check the other gauges for any warning signs • Flip open the engine compartment to make sure the battery is secured, all the cables are tight, and that there are no leaks.

• Secure all loose items, make sure that weight is distributed evenly, and do not overload the vessel.

• Don’t forget to let someone ashore know where and when you are going and when you will be returning.

• Make sure that the wrist harness is secured tightly around your wrist.

While at sea: • Keep an eye on the surrounding area for any swimmers, other jet skiers and boats.

• Make sure the engine is turned off whenever there are any individuals in the water for their safety.

• Stay seated when on a moving vessel and only stand once it has stopped.

• Remain focused on your path ahead in case anything

unexpected happens.

• When towing a water skier, make sure the driver’s attention is focused on the driving and someone else watches the skier.

Extra caution: • Stow a paddle (the collapsible type).

• Carry a basic first aid kit.

• Carry a towline with floats attached to prevent the rope from sinking.

If you do see anyone in distress around our shores call the 24-hour security line immediately on 36060827.

DRM has a medical team on hand 24 hours a day and an ambulance that can quickly transport patients to the nearest hospital. Plus, two security boats regularly patrol the shoreline and can offer trained assistance in the event of a sea related emergency. All security staff are trained in First Aid. Now back to that day you were enjoying at the beach!

Even when you and your family are playing a spot of volleyball or building a sandcastle, it’s important to protect yourselves from the sun’s powerful rays. Even when there’s a sea breeze, or on a cloudy day, make sure to cover the whole family with sun protection,

particularly your children.

DRM’s regulations have been put in place merely to guide us so that we can all fully enjoy the beaches at Durrat Al Bahrain. Think about it for a moment; if all of us neglected to take our rubbish home after a day at the beach, it doesn’t take an expert to work out that they would no longer be pleasant places to visit. Beyond the esthetic there are, of course, the environmental consequences. Sea creatures such as the wonderful yet endangered sea turtles can innocently consume rubbish. Plastic bags, in particular, are a detriment to their survival. Avoiding littering is not the only measure we can take to protect our seascape.

By restricting fishing on the islands DRM gives us the opportunity to protect our sea life, giving them a chance to breed and multiply. Good news for the fishes…and for our environement.

By staying aware, with the help of DRM’s regulations, we can all appreciate our fantastic communal beaches and natural landscape to the full whilst at the same time respecting each other’s beliefs and space. Here’s to a fun and safe summer!

Even when you and your family are playing a spot of volleyball or building a sandcastle, it’s important to protect yourselves from the sun’s powerful rays. Even when there’s a sea breeze, or on a cloudy day, make sure to cover the whole family with sun protection,

particularly your children.

DRM’s regulations have been put in place merely to guide us so that we can all fully enjoy the beaches at Durrat Al Bahrain. Think about it for a moment; if all of us neglected to take our rubbish home after a day at the beach, it doesn’t take an expert to work out that they would no longer be pleasant places to visit. Beyond the esthetic there are, of course, the environmental consequences. Sea creatures such as the wonderful yet endangered sea turtles can innocently consume rubbish. Plastic bags, in particular, are a detriment to their survival. Avoiding littering is not the only measure we can take to protect our seascape.

By restricting fishing on the islands DRM gives us the opportunity to protect our sea life, giving them a chance to breed and multiply. Good news for the fishes…and for our environement.

‫يتيح لنا يوم األرض مناسبة لالحتفال بكوكبنا والتفكير فيما‬ ‫يمكننا القيام به لكي نرد بعض المعروف الذي أسدته لنا البيئة‪.‬‬ ‫ومنذ االحتفال بيوم األرض في عام ‪ 1970‬من قبل السيناتور‬ ‫األمريكي جيلورد نيلسون‪ ،‬وهو يحظى بدعم مستمر من قبل‬ ‫األجيال المتعاقبة التي تؤيد هذه القضية النبيلة وخصوص ًا بعد‬ ‫أن تحولت البيئة العالمية إلى مسألة سياسية تزداد أهمية يوم ًا‬ ‫بعد يوم‪ .‬واليوم وبعد مرور ‪ 40‬عام ًا على بدء االحتفال بهذه‬ ‫المناسبة‪ ،‬فان ما يزيد على ‪ 198‬بلد ًا تشارك في يوم األرض وهو‬ ‫ما يتيح منتدىً عالمي ًا لتفعيل القضايا التي تتراوح بين إعادة‬ ‫التدوير والتنمية المستدامة‪ .‬وتشارك مختلف دول العالم في‬ ‫هذه المناسبة على المستويات المحلية واإلقليمية والعالمية‬ ‫من خالل تنظيم مناسبات مثل المحاضرات وورش العمل‪.‬‬
