LETTER I have always been an advocate for health and fitness and I’m continuously seeking new ways to ensure my well-being remains at the forefront. After years of struggling with painful digestive issues and food intolerances, finding sustainable solutions is extremely important to me. I have never been one for extreme methods for weight-loss. The insane amount of dangerous supplements that claim to work miracles, and the obsessive workout routines that are more harmful than ever are leaving women depleted, unhealthy and hormonally out of balance. It’s very concerning, especially with little ones looking up to us every day to be an example. A healthy body starts with a healthy mind, and discovering what you need to achieve optimum health and happiness. It’s about balance and sustainability. It’s about finding a routine that is suitable for your body, and helps you transform your lifestyle to support your betterment. Especially once we enter the world of motherhood, we are immediately faced with new challenges. Our bodies have changed, as well as self-confidence, in addition to new schedules and routines. This is why I am a huge believer in finding the proper support to help you achieve the best version of yourself. Don’t fall for the fads and quick fixes. Instead, align yourself with real professionals that provide result-driven solutions to help you achieve all of your health and fitness goals, while managing motherhood and all of life’s demands. You deserve to look and feel your best, and you don’t have to do it alone. The best investment you could ever make is in your betterment, and you are worth every penny!
From one mama to another, you are beautiful, you are loved, and you are enough – just as you are. It’s never too late to make the enhancements you need to live your most effervescent life and make the shift from stuck to striving. Be your own “momspiration” and become the grandest version of yourself. With Love,

INTRODUCTION Jennifer Van Barneveld-Pe is a Certified Personal Trainer, Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Founder of coachjvb.com and losethebabyweight.com, mother, wife and multi-passionate entrepreneur. I’ve been a secret admirer of Jenny for years as I would often see her stunning photos appear on social media, and grace the pages and front covers of some of the industry’s largest publications. One of the first things that attracted me to Jenny was that she always presented herself with class and just the right amount of sass. As I began to learn more about her field of expertise and journey through the fitness industry, I knew that Jenny was someone who I could align myself with and relate to. We were even pregnant at the same time and it was amazing to have someone to look up to for guidance and motivation to stay strong and healthy throughout my entire pregnancy. What I love about Jenny is that as a mother first and foremost, she gets it – all of it! The chaotic schedules, the lack of balance, the sleepless nights, the struggle to put ourselves first, all while running and household and business. But she finds a way, every day, to make health and fitness a priority with achievable routines and meal ideas that are simple to follow and deliver amazing results. Not only is she continuously evolving her brand with her latest program, losethebabyweight.com, she is continuously educating herself to stay current and up-to-date with credentials you can trust and count on. As a coach, mentor, industry professional, mother, and what I like to call a modern-day “wonder woman”, Jenny is definitely one of my top Women with Ambition! If you are someone who is looking to make positive changes to your health and body and live a sustainable lifestyle that promises long-term results, an increase in energy, and a newfound confidence, read on to learn why Jenny might just be the perfect coach for you! 4
about their food choices. When I became a mom I added to this vision: I want to help moms learn to put their health and happiness first again and teach them that it’s not selfish to do so.
WHO IS JENNIFER VAN BARNEVELD AND WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS? I’m a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and a certified personal trainer. I help women transform their relationship with food, their bodies, and their lives, using my Online Coach JVB Proprietary Methods to help them embrace strength training and food flexibility as a way of life. When I started coachjvb.com I had a vision where women exude confidence with their bodies, are passionate and relentless about achieving more out of their life, and are informed and fearless
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE YOUR BRAND? WHAT IS YOUR “WHY”? As a Transformation Consultant, I was working with so many clients but was unable to share their results and progress, as the rights to their images and testimonials were owned by the companies that I was working with. Over time, I really wanted to showcase the work I was doing with my clients because of the relationships we were forming as I helped them with their fitness goals. Because of the years I spent in photo and television studios capturing Before and After Stories, my husband and I decided to invest in our own camera equipment and start building my own client base. This opened up so much freedom for me in terms of how I showcase my clients and the way I got to share their fitness journey through Social Media. I pride myself on putting together high-quality images of my clients and helping them unleash their inner fitness model at their photo shoots. To work with a client formerly frustrated with their weight loss initiatives, and to watch them come out of their shell and become so proud of their body and new lifestyle is such a rewarding feeling as a Coach. My “why” has always been to help women, especially moms, put their health and happiness first so they are happy and strong for their family. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017

...after becoming a mom myself, I know how tough it is to make yourself a priority again.

WHAT MADE YOU FINALLY PURSUE YOUR DREAM AND REALLY GO FOR IT? I was working with one of my first clients ever who was morbidly obese with numerous health complications. He suffered a heart attack in his late thirties and he was borderline diabetic. His life was in great danger. After a few months of working with me, his health drastically improved. He lost 100 pounds and never felt better! He could finally walk again and he even met a girlfriend, something he never thought would ever happen. I knew then that I needed to be helping more people. I had to get over my insecurities and my worries of failure because it wasn’t about me anymore. It was about helping as many people as I can live happy and healthier lives. Soon after that, I quit my day job and never looked back. YOU HAVE AN AMAZING MENU OF PROGRAMS AND SUPPORT TOOLS. IS THERE ONE PROGRAM IN PARTICULAR THAT THAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE, OR THAT YOU’RE MOST PROUD OF? I would have to say that my mom-only program; www.losethebabyweight.com is my favourite because after becoming a mom myself, I know how tough it is to make yourself a priority again. We really don’t have time for anything and when we do begin to start working out again, we have to be very careful with what types of exercises we do and what exercises we should avoid. I will always get my new-mom clients to perform a series of Diastasis Recti / Core exercises to help with the ab separation caused by pregnancy. A lot of moms don’t know about this issue and when they notice that their tummy isn’t responding and is still very descended despite losing some of the baby weight, they become very frustrated and start doing tons of crunches, sit-ups, and planks, which should all be avoided. Lose The Baby Weight is an eight-week program designed for moms who want to lose the stub-
born baby weight and feel confident and energized for themselves and their family. I use my same Coach JVB Proprietary Methods with a busy mom-life in mind. It’s so rewarding to see women develop a new relationship with their bodies and with food. To take time for themselves without the guilt to workout effectively and to become a happier, stronger version of themselves. As a Coach and Trainer, the emotional transformation is just as rewarding as the physical. YOU HAVE TRANSFORMED THOUSANDS OF CLIENTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD AND HELPED THEM ACHIEVE THEIR FITNESS AND WELLNESS GOALS, AS WELL AS MAINTAIN THEM. WHY DO YOU FEEL YOUR PROGRAMS ARE SO SUCCESSFUL? My coaching philosophy has always been to enjoy food flexibility, lift weights to shape the body, and avoid long boring cardio sessions. When women embrace these rules as a way of life, their weight loss results become maintainable and sustainable because they don’t have to starve or spend hours in the gym just to achieve the body they’ve always desired. Here are my Coach JVB Proprietary Methods: 1. Fuel their bodies with lots of delicious and wholesome foods. 2. Sculpt their figures with carefully crafted weight-based programs. 3. Accelerate their training with quick cardio-centric sessions at the end of their workouts. 4. Aspire for more and continuously adjust their goals along their journey. 5. Support their fellow Strong Girls through our online community. WHAT WAS ONE OF THE MOST SURPRISING THINGS YOU LEARNED THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY IN THE FITNESS AND HEALTH INDUSTRY? health industry, I’ve learned to keep an open mind and to always be learning and evolving because the world is constantly changing. I started in the health and fitness industry at the ripe age of 18 as a personal trainer while I was in University. The only way we got customers through the door was through flyers, open houses and maybe email. I also remember having to go on the gym floor and talk to people and try to get them to train with me. I remember feeling so intimidated! There was no social media back then. When Facebook launched things began to shift. I could increase the number of eyes on me in order to deliver helpful information to more people. I really loved this idea but it was definitely a learning curve and still is to this day. Technology and social media are also always evolving. WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH AND FITNESS ROUTINE LIKE? My exercise regimen consists primarily of Weight Lifting and explosive Kettlebell Work. Here is an example of my weekly routine: DAY 1 - Heavy Lower Body Day - Hip Thrusts, Squats, Bulgarian Split Squats, walking lunges followed by Kettlebell Tabata - KB Swings 30 seconds, KB Goblet Squat 30 seconds. Repeat 6-8 times DAY 2 - Upper Body - Shoulder Press, Lat Pulldowns or Pull-ups, Rows, Face Pulls, Push-ups. Followed by Tabata Battle Ropes - 30 seconds on, 20 seconds rest. Repeat 8 times DAY 3 - Walk with my son (in stroller) - 45 minutes to 1 hour DAY 4 - Kettlebell Full Body Circuit: a. KB Swings b. KB Snatches c. KB Turkish Get-Up d. KB Presses e. KB Stiff-Leg Deadlifts f. Goblet squat to Press. 8
Perform 20 reps of each. AMRAP - As many rounds as possible in 25 minutes. DAY 5 - Walk with my son (in stroller) - 45 minutes to 1 hour DAY 6 & 7 - I like to keep my weekends open with my son but if I can squeeze in a gym date with my hubby, I’ll either choose an upper body split or lower body split, whatever is less sore. There is no special diet or specific menu that I adhere to but as a Nutritionist, I stick primarily to whole foods and an abundance of fruits and vegetables for the majority of the week. I make sure I get in all of my protein requirements and fill in the rest of my daily calories with carbohydrates and dietary fats while staying within my calorie ranges through responsible portions. This is a very similar approach I take with my clients to encourage them to move away from behaviors that no longer add value to their health and to embrace habits that are more in line with their fitness goals. WHAT IS YOUR MOTIVATION? WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD? My motivation is to help as many women as I can. I love my clients and hearing about their successes and how much their lives have changed for the better. It inspires me to keep going. Aside from my amazing clients, I have 3 people who motivate me on a regular:
wouldn’t normally take which is what makes us such a great team. 3. Jillian Michaels definitely motivates me. She is such a STRONG woman who has definitely made her mark in the Fitness Industry and, in my opinion, is currently the voice of Women’s Fitness. She’s not afraid of telling people what they need to hear, she’s direct and to the point. I really admire everything she’s accomplished in her career, both as a fitness professional and businesswoman, and I know there’s definitely more to come. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH NEGATIVITY, OBSTACLES, AND LACK OF MOTIVATION? I give myself permission to feel down or upset about whatever the obstacle or negative situation is. I know that if I actually feel those emotions, they will give me the motivation to make a change in the right direction. I believe negative situations are necessary to have positive outcomes in life. IF YOU COULD CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY THUS FAR, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I would have started a lot sooner. I always second guessed myself and was worried about failing. I wish I had overcome my fears sooner but the lesson is learned. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO ARE JUST STARTING THEIR HEALTH AND FITNESS JOURNEY? 1. My son. I want to be the best example I can be to him. I want him to see that he can do anything he puts his mind to with hard work and perseverance.
Be patient and don’t expect results overnight. A lot of women come from backgrounds of crash diets and they expect really fast results so it often becomes my job to educate them on realistic approaches. The 2. My husband Vince Pe. He has always believed in quicker the results that faster it can all come back. me from day one even when I didn’t believe in Also, being severely deprived of food will not provide myself. He thinks BIG which I always had a prob- sustainable or maintainable weight loss in the end. lem doing and sometimes still do, and he pushes Once women grasp this concept, they learn to enjoy me to think outside the box and take chances I the process. The journey is the reward. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2017

WITH SO MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE HEALTH AND FITNESS INDUSTRY, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ABUNDANCE OF SUPPLEMENTS AND FADS THAT ARE OUT THERE?
on-one with clients on the gym floor? So many coaches these days love the idea of online training but they’ve never had actual experience training in-person or putting a program together. It actually blows my mind.
I feel as though fads and supplements will always be apart of the health and fitness industry but as a fitness professional, it’s my duty to educate as many people as I can that there are no “quick fixes” to fat loss or health in general. All I can do is keep putting out quality content in hopes people read it and make their own decision on what is believable. My rule of thumb is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, many of my clients can claim my services through their health benefits so if you have health benefits through your work, I urge you to look into them to see what credentials your nutritionist or trainer may need so you can provide them with the right documents to make the claim.
THERE IS A GROWING NUMBER OF FITNESS ENTHUSIASTS THAT ARE OFFERING TRAINING PROGRAMS AND COOKIE CUTTER DIET PLANS. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CREDENTIALS YOU WOULD STRONGLY ADVICE INQUIRING CLIENTS TO LOOK FOR? I encourage clients to look for coaches who have both a nutrition and training certificate. I suggest that they do some research on the coach: What are their credentials and are they up to date? Do they have testimonials or a portfolio (before and after photos) of their clients? I would also assess how many testimonials they have. Another important question to ask is how many years of experience they’ve had training one10
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE BUSINESS PLANS? My ‘big picture” plan is to publish a book: Health and Fitness for Moms - How to make yourself a priority again. WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR LITTLE LUXURIES? I am also a believer in this! I think it’s really important to cut out special time for yourself for relaxation, enjoyment, and self-care. I always plan a mani and pedi every other week and I also plan spa days with my girlfriends every season. I love looking forward to self-love days. On a daily basis, I love to read or go to the gym. The gym is my time - I put on my headphones and get in a butt-kicking workout and I always feel rejuvenated after.
I also like to decorate and I often daydream of how I would change a room in my house. Then I head over to Home Sense and splurge a little, haha! WHAT DO YOU HOPE PEOPLE TAKE AWAY FROM THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH YOU? WHAT WOULD YOU WANT YOUR CLIENTS TO SAY ABOUT YOU? My wish is that my clients exude a new level of confidence with their bodies and are passionate and relentless about achieving more out of their life. To continue to set goals for themselves and never see that there is an end to their fitness and health journey. I also hope that they are now informed and fearless about their food choices. And if they are a mom, my wish is that they are putting themselves at the top of their priority list because when mom is happy and healthy, the entire family benefits in so many ways. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE MOTTO OR QUOTE? I have two favourite mottos that I always use: “The journey is the reward”, and “Strong moms make strong babies.” WHERE CAN WE GET MORE OF JENNIFER? WHICH PLATFORMS ARE YOU THE MOST ACTIVE ON? I’m very active on Facebook, but enjoy connecting through all of my social media platforms such as Instagram, Youtube, my website and blog, and Pinterest.
To all of the amazing mama’s out there, you deserve to look and feel your best at every stage and age in your life!
