Paganini's Ghost by Paul Adam The book sees the return of Cremona violin maker Gianni Castiglione and his detective friend Antonio Guastafeste. The Outlander by Gil Adamson A mysterious young women flees alone across the Canadian wilderness, one step ahead of her pursuers. Mary Boulton is 19 years old, half mad and widowed by her own hand. Tearing through the forest, she is desperate and she is certain on one thing only that her every move is being traced. We are never told why she murdered her husband but can only guess she hit breaking point after being under serial control by a depressive father.

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Set during the Biafran-Nigerian war of 1967-1970 this story follows the lives of ordinary families during that time. An interesting read!

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie The story of a young girl, Kambili, growing up in Nigeria with mother, father and brother, Jaja. Affluent, but suppressed because her father is deeply, fanatically religious. Kambili and her brother go to visit their Auntie Ifeoma and then see a different life, Auntie Ifeoma and her family are very poor, but rich in ways of happiness and freedom. This book is a tragic story, but also offers a great insight of Nigeria.
