BEER Meeting The St. John’s BEER group (Brothers Engaging in Enriching Relationships) will meet on April 26th at 6:00 at Schulz Brau Brewery (very near the church). Mostly we'll be catching up with folks at this meeting, but if time permits we'll also be discussing the notion of resurrection as it pertains to our daily lives and the life of our community. Some questions to think about: How have I experienced "resurrection" in my own life? What does it look like for us to be agents of Christ's "resurrection life" in our community? etc. We also want to assure people that though there was a mix-up at our last meeting Schultz Brau is indeed open this coming Tuesday! Please come to socialize, engage in some meaningful discussion, and enjoy a pint and a brat (or whatever). Bring a friend!
Invitation and Response We invite you to pray for St. John’s Lutheran Church. God has called us; God continues to call us to bold expressions of ministry! This is an incredible opportunity to support one another, consider the gift of increased generosity, and grow together as congregation committed to God on the corner of Fifth and Broadway, in the heart of the Mission District. What a high calling and the perfect place to be the Church. Sunday, May 1 is Commitment Sunday. During worship, you will be invited to bring forward your enclosed Commitment Card, offering your gifts to God. You may also mail your commitment card to the church office or fill out an online commitment card. Then on Sunday, May 15, we will announce the current results of our Abundantly Far More commitments, including the number of Commitment Cards received and the faithful response of the congregation. We will celebrate the results together by congregational picnic on Emory Place. We invite you to celebrate with us. We are excited about the opportunities to meet the needs of the church and community in 2022 and moving forward into 2023. God continues to call the people of St. John’s; together as a living expression of God’s extravagant grace, we will faithfully respond.
The mission of St. John’s Lutheran Church is “Growing God’s Servants, Serving God’s People.” THREE MINISTRY INITIATIVES TO SUPPORT OUR NEW MISSION AND VISION STATEMENTS RENEWING RELATIONSHIPS – One ministry initiative is supporting opportunities for renewed relationships within and beyond the walls of St. John’s. We will expand the Ministry Coordinator staff position to a full-time role to support new ministry programming, engage in creative worship services that nurture congregational diversity, and develop a comprehensive plan for facility maintenance of a 110 year historic building. RE-IMAGINING FAITH FORMATION – A second ministry initiative is re-imagining faith formation programming for all ages. We will call a Director of Faith Formation to support life-long learning and inter-generational ministry with a focus on children and youth, renew our engagement of young couples and growing families, and support ongoing ministries such as Senior Adult Ministries (SAMs), Katie’s Sisters, TheoPub, and Tyson House campus ministry as opportunities for faith-filled relationships. EXPANDING COMMUNITY OUTREACH – A third ministry initiative is expanding community outreach ministries to invite neighbors, both housed and unhoused, into experiences of grace. We will explore opportunities for social engagement with families and businesses in surrounding neighborhoods and lift up our endowment fund to support new ministry initiatives. More information coming via mail, social media, and worship engagement!
