Hello St. John’s friends, We wanted to share an update to our on-going, supportive relationship with Christenberry Elementary School. As many of you know, after many faithful years of involvement with CES, Thea Peterson has retired as the St. John’s liaison to the school, and Lee Ley and Ruth Crowley will be leading the efforts to support, pray for, and take care of the students, mentors, staff, and teachers at CES. Christenberry Elementary counts on the support received from St. John’s, and there are many ways (big or small) to help. The school year is just beginning, and we have already begun to offer hospitality. Many thanks to Nancy Maland, LaWanda and Darrell Murrell, Toni Denton, Alice Garrison, Mary Eikenberry, Kaye Williams, Amy Figg Ley, Ron Rimer, Linda Godden, Mari Brooks, Clarke Hinkle, Thea and Mary Elizabeth Peterson, Beth Buehler, and Christine Oehler for helping provide a delicious meal at the school on Monday. We also welcomed the staff to join us for worship at St. John’s, and especially for the Blessing of the Backpacks, coming up this Sunday, August 7. Each school year, SJLC offers support in many ways. Here are some ways you can be part of the fun: 1.Be part of the team that helps provide lunches, snacks, treats, and more to teachers and staff throughout the school year. 2.Help pull weeds from the flower beds at the school. 3.Provide supplies for classrooms. (Special needs are dry-erase markers, boxes of tissues, canisters of disinfecting wipes, and baby wipes.) 4.Be part of a group of volunteers who visit the school and read to students. 5.Donate money to help cover support costs. 6.Worship at SJLC, where we pray for the students, staff, and mentors at Christenberry every week. 7. Participate in Blessing of the Backpacks, when SJLC encourages and prays for educators, students, and all who are beginning a new school year. Please contact Lee Ley (423) 341-5337 or Ruth Crowley (865) 405-3727 to offer your help. Annual work day | August 6 at 9 a.m.! We need your help to prepare for students to return to campus in the Fall. We will be providing lunch for all volunteers and tasks for the day include gardening, litter pick-up, and cleaning inside and outside of the building! Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves and gardening tools. If you have questions, reach out to Caitlynne at tysonhouseadm@gmail.com or call us at 865-637-2031.

~Altar Flowers Update~ Beginning in September altar flowers will be available for $50.00 per arrangement You are invited to honor or remember your loved ones by ordering the altar flowers for Sunday Services. Please sign up on the sheet in the Welcome Center! Petree’s is our florist, and we will note your gift in the worship bulletin.

Have you thought about joining St. John’s?
