COVID-19 Dear St. Louis County residents, St. Louis County is a great place to live, work and raise a family. One of the highlights of the County is our dedicated green spaces. Our St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department staff work hard year-round to keep our parks beautiful. As the days grow cooler, our parks burst with the colors of Fall and outdoor activities. Our dedicated park staff are diligently preparing a wide variety of programming to enhance your experience during the Fall and Winter. We will be following all public health guidelines. Program sizes have been limited and safety measures have been put in place.
Information Events and programs listed in this guide are subject to change based on updated recommendations and guidelines provided by the St. Louis County Department of Public Health. Programs may be heavily modified or canceled. The online Activity Guide will be updated periodically to reflect changes. For further information call (314) 615-4FUN or email PMailbox@stlouisco.com anytime Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
At Halloween, we will have the new Jack O ‘Lantern Trail and Trunk or Treat event at Faust Park, a Haunted Extravaganza in St. Vincent Park, and a Halloween Boo-Nanza at the North County Recreation Center. These events include pumpkin carving, haunted tours and candy for the kids.
Wear a face covering
Come Winter, St. Louis County parks will welcome visitors from throughout the region to Winter Wonderland at Tilles Park. Our staff work for weeks to assemble this display of hundreds of thousands of lights. We are again offering Winter Wonderland Walk dates this season. At these events, visitors can walk through the exhibit with children, leashed dogs, strollers and wagons.
Maintain social distancing
For senior residents, four of our recreation centers - The Pavilion at Lemay, the North County Recreation Complex, the AfftonRodgers Community Center and the St. Vincent Community Center - will again offer SilverSneakers and RenewActive. These programs provide free membership for swimming, walking and fitness classes for seniors who qualify through Medicare or group retiree health plans. Our staff will be happy to check to see if you qualify. We also offer ice skating (and skating lessons) at the Greensfelder and Kennedy recreation complexes. And please check this guide’s listings for schedules of nature programs, geocaching, trail rides, hikes and other activities.
Avoid crowds Stay home if you feel sick
I hope you will join my family as we enjoy the terrific attractions at our parks this Fall and Winter. Sincerely,
Sam Page St. Louis County Executive

Volunteer Opportunities
Join the team! Individuals, families and groups will have fun and make friends while giving back to their community by working as a St. Louis County Parks volunteer. For more information call our Volunteer Coordinator at (314) 615-8865 or email parksvolunteers@stlouisco.com.
Honeysuckle Removal
Invasive bush honeysuckle is destroying forest understory by blocking sunlight from other species. Contact our partner, the Open Space Council, to volunteer for weekend honeysuckle removal and other environment-enhancing projects. Email info@openspacestl.org or call (314) 835-9225 for project dates and sites!
GET INVOLVED
Corporate and school groups can schedule weekday honeysuckle removal projects with us to fit your group’s availability and site preference. Group projects usually run 2-3 hours and must be planned a minimum of 1 month in advance. Groups provide their own lunches if applicable but can use available park shelters at no cost. To schedule a weekday honeysuckle removal project, email parksvolunteers@stlouisco.com or call (314) 615-8865 at least 4 weeks prior to your preferred project date.
Trail Watch
Trail Watch is a volunteer program in which hikers, cyclists, skaters and equestrians assist Park Rangers in monitoring the many trails in our St. Louis County Parks to keep them safe and enjoyable for all! Volunteers, ages 16+, must attend an initial two-hour orientation (one held every spring and fall) in which Park Rangers teach trail etiquette and reporting procedures. Trail Watch Volunteers serve as ambassadors but do not intervene in dangerous situations (only report them). Advance registration is required by calling (314) 615-8865 or emailing parksvolunteers@stlouisco.com. Call (314) 615-8865 for times and dates.
Trail Crew
Help build new trails, extensions to existing trails or repair trails. Project include limb removal, erosion control, tree trimming and general maintenance. We collaborate with Gateway Off-Road Cyclists to design, build and maintain our trails! Tools, gloves, water and lunch are provided. Volunteers ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Advance registration is required by calling (314) 615-8865 or emailing parksvolunteers@stlouisco.com at least 2 weeks prior to project. Call (314) 615-8865 for times and dates.
Please visit our volunteer website at www.stlouisco.com/Parks/Vol to learn about many other ongoing volunteer opportunities or call our volunteer coordinator at (314) 615-8865. stlouisco.com/parks l (314) 615-4FUN

During the War of 1812 in 1814, General Izard, in attempting to deprive the British of their chief source of flour, sent a brigade of about 1,200 men, consisting of the 5th, 14th, 15th and 16th U.S. Infantry with some detachments of riflemen and U.S. Dragoons under Brigadier General Daniel Bissell, to take Cooks Mills on Lyon’s Creek in Crowland township. In response, Drummond dispatched about 750 men of the 6th Regiment, the Glengarry Light Infantry and the flank companies of the 104th Regiment, with a 6-pounder gun and a Congreve rocket detachment, under Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Myers to reconnoiter the American force. On the morning of October 19 the two sides met. Learn about Bissell’s victory in this exhibit. Fee

Art Odili Donald Odita: From Periphery to Center
August 9, 2020 - December 20, 2020 Laumeier Sculpture Park
Nigerian-born, Philadelphia-based Odili Donald Odita is best known for his colorful, hard-edged, abstract paintings and public mural projects. Odita’s interwoven blocks of color are derived from a variety of influences; from outlandish Nigerian wallpaper in his native Enugu, to the old-school methods of Jazz music composition and traditional African artefacts. For Laumeier, his findings will inform the design of commissioned flags to be exhibited outdoors in the Park and off site at Jeske Sculpture Park in Ferguson, Missouri. Odita flag designs are extractions of his research on the ideas around the periphery and the center, most specifically looking at the geographic and social relationship between Ferguson, Missouri in North County and Laumeier Sculpture Park, located in Sunset Hills in South County. Van McElwee: Time Fork
October 11, 2020 - May 9, 2021 Laumeier Sculpture Park
Van McElwee, a local media artist, creates an Augmented Reality environment contemplating choices and possibilities, each choice crafting a new world. Created from a topographical drone mapping of Laumeier, imagined structures are placed virtually within the landscape at Laumeier. McElwee’s interactive application incorporates both sculpture and the natural landscape that will offer an alternative Laumeier experience for visitors using their hand-held personal devices. Organized as a walking tour of the Park viewed through the lens of technology, Time Fork entertains a playful fiction: roughly a thousand years ago, time branched to create a parallel world.
