Our Mission
To provide high quality parks, facilities, and recreation services that enhance residents’ lives through responsible and effective management of resources.
Park Watch Dear St. Louis County residents, St. Louis County is a great place to live, work and raise a family. One of the highlights of the County is our dedicated green spaces. Our dedicated St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department staff works hard year-round to keep our parks beautiful. Spring and summer offer some of the best views in St. Louis County thanks to the diligent efforts of Parks staff, but they also offer a wide variety of programming to enhance your experience.
Park Watch is a program to bring park visitors, park neighbors and St. Louis County Parks staff together to ensure safety and the highest quality of facilities and services. If you see suspicious activities, vandalism or problems within a St. Louis County park, please call the Park Watch Hotline at (314) 615-ISEE (4733) or (800) 735-2966 TTY (Relay Missouri). You may remain anonymous. To contact a Park Ranger call (314) 615-8911. To report a crime in progress or a medical emergency, call 911.
This year, you may notice some new Family Trail Pods in a number of parks. These multiuse, intergenerational trail stops offer exercise equipment alongside playground equipment so the whole family can get out and get moving together!
Please report only! Do not take action to intervene or attempt to correct a problem. This is the responsibility of St. Louis County Parks Rangers and the St. Louis County Police Department.
Food Truck Fests will continue through the Summer and into September. As you know, these take place at various parks around the County. We are pleased to share that the North County Recreation Complex and St. Vincent Community Center pools will both be added to the Food Truck Fest rotation. In addition to the delicious food truck offerings, you can also enjoy free admission to the pool with a purchase from a food truck.
Accessibility
Consider joining us for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 18 at any of our pools. This event will help prevent childhood drowning tragedies by focusing on swimming lessons to save lives. And once again, we welcome you to celebrate America with us at JB Blast on Friday, July 3 at Jefferson Barracks Park. It will be an evening of live music and a brilliant fireworks display. Perfect for all ages and completely free to enjoy. Of course, County Parks and Recreation will again offer a wide compliment of summer activities, including numerous camps to keep children engaged and occupied during their summer break from school. For specific dates and more information on these and more events, see the Special Events section of this guide for a schedule of open houses at Faust Park and the dates of our Food Truck Fests at various County parks. St. Louis offers 73 County parks, each with their own character and ambience. There’s sure to be one near you, maybe even one you’ve always meant to explore but haven’t take the time to do so yet. Make 2020 the year you make it happen. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your new favorite. I hope you will join my family and me as we enjoy the amenities and activities at our St. Louis County parks this spring and summer. Sincerely,
Sam Page St. Louis County Executive
St. Louis County Parks Department welcomes people of all abilities to participate in our programs and services. If you or someone you know has a disability and would like to participate in one of our programs or activities, please let us know how we can best meet your needs. Alternative formats (braille, large print etc.) of this Parks Activity Guide can be provided upon request. Please contact us at (314) 615-4386 or Relay MO at 711 or (800) 735-2966 as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours (two business days) before a scheduled event. Emails can be sent to pmailbox@stlouisco.com. The Americans with Disability Act (ADA) does not require the Parks Department to take any action that would change the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden.

Women’s Suffrage
Jefferson Barracks Lecture
The women’s suffrage movement in the United States began in 1638, when Margaret Brent, a successful businesswoman in Virginia, demanded the right to vote in the state’s House of Burgesses. The last “yes” vote needed for ratification of the 19th Amendment was made by Tennessee on August 18, 1920, when the Tennessee House of Representatives voted in favor of the amendment by a vote of 50-49. Come learn how St. Louis women were involved in this struggle as we look forward to the 100th Anniversary of women’s right to vote. Mark Dion: Follies
Odili Donald Odita: Flags
Indoor Exhibition / February 15 - May 24, 2020 Laumeier Sculpture Park, Aronson Fine Art Center
Exhibition / June 13 - September 27, 2020 Laumeier Sculpture Park
Laumeier Sculpture Park is proud to present Mark Dion: Follies for its spring exhibition. Mark Dion has fashioned a worldwide reputation as an innovative sculptor and installation artist whose points of departure include the intersections of the historical and the contemporary, as well as the man-made and natural worlds. Mark Dion: Follies looks at some of the artist’s architectural works; sheds or shacks filled with the tools of the trade for scientists, botanists and naturalists who live in, study and collect natural specimens. Visitors will experience sculptural installations with elaborate takes on the outdoor protective structures used by hunters, as well as a shed filled with dozens of keepsake objects stored in individual containers that suggest the ways inanimate objects are associated with treasured memories. Dion’s artwork explores the intersections between nature, science, architecture, and scholarship in ways that are intelligent, funny, dark, and thought provoking.
Artist Odili Donald Odita is Laumeier’s inaugural Visiting Artist in Residence. Odita’s project is a meditation on the similarities and differences, bonds and divisions between the north and south parts of St. Louis County. After spending time in residence, conducting research and having conversations with residents, Odita will custom design a flag that will be fabricated and installed at Laumeier and another site in North County. This new program brings one visiting artist per year from outside the region to spend time in the St. Louis metro area and engage with members of the community, culminating in the presentation of artwork.

The Future is Present: Art and Global Change is a group exhibition that explores the ingenuity of artists and their commitment to addressing the most pressing issues to humankind: climate change, environmental crisis and related global repercussions. Technology’s role in climate change measure and reversal will be reflected in artists’ use of multimedia and new technologies, ranging from video and sound to virtual/augmented reality. Simultaneously, humankind’s impact on the planet through consumption and waste will be mirrored in artistic uses of upcycled supplies and materials. Day

Staffordshire Pottery: Selections from the Permanent Collection
Exhibition / Closes August 31, 2020 General Daniel Bissell House
Staffordshire pottery is produced in the Staffordshire potteries area of the United Kingdom. This area is in the Midlands based around six separate towns of Burslem, Fenton, Hanley, Longton, Stoke and Tunstall, which are now known as Stoke on Trent. This area became the center of pottery production in England in the 1700-1800s and its items were sold worldwide. Staffordshire has plenty of clay, lead, salt and coal making it an ideal location for pottery production. In its heyday there were many manufacturers producing pottery in Staffordshire; some are still doing so to this day such as Wedgwood, Spode, Minton, Aynsley, Doulton and Twyford. The Bissell House has a modest yet interesting collection of Staffordshire works which are featured in this exhibit. Call (314) 615-8800 for more information. Age

The island hopping forces of the Allies head to the heart of the Japanese islands as the turbulent fight for democracy and freedom waged until the war’s end and the men and women fighting the war could return home to seek their peaceful, hard-earned life. The Frank Lloyd Wright House in Ebsworth Park (Kraus House) is a unique and significant residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, widely considered the greatest American architect. Wright designed the house for Russell and Ruth Kraus in 1951, the first of only five Wright-designed properties in Missouri. The Kraus House is an excellent example of Wright’s democratic vision, intended to provide middle-class Americans with beautiful architecture at an affordable cost. The home is notable for its architectural integrityand original Wright-designed furnishings and fabrics. With a floor plan composed of two intersecting parallelograms, it is considered one of Wright’s most geometrically complex homes. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its significance in American architecture.
VISIT
Tours of the FLWHEP offer an opportunity to learn about the Krauses and the design, construction, and restoration of their ‘little gem’. Guests gain insight into Wright’s architectural principles and his influence on architecture that continues today. Tours are offered year-round. Advance reservations are required as space is limited. All tours are led by a trained docent and last approximately one hour. The FLWHEP also welcomes private groups and field trips for students fourth grade and above. The FLWHEP, a nonprofit preservation organization, purchased the property in 2001 and donated it to St. Louis County. The FLWHEP offers a variety of educational programming on architecture and design including tours, exhibits, lectures, and special events.
