You Can Paddle Day
Come on out to the north end of Creve Coeur Lake Park for our annual Demo Day! This is our largest paddle demo day of the year featuring representatives from all of our major watersport brands. This is the one time each year that we can offer you the chance to paddle nearly every boat available to us through our vendors if we don’t normally stock at our stores or carry demo models year-round. If this will be your first kayak, this is a great opportunity to see which boat style will work best for you. If you’re considering upgrading your boat this year to something that fits your style of paddling better than what you currently have, there is simply no other time on the schedule during this entire year that will afford you the opportunity to find the exact boat that is right for you. Did You Know? Even though the first day of summer is the longest day of the year, it’s not the hottest, due to something called seasonal temperature lag, which means that it takes a while for the oceans to let their stored summer solstice heat back into the air. That’s why it tends to be hotter in July or August than in June.

Did You Know? A good belly laugh reduces blood pressure, clears the lungs, and produces endorphins, the so-called “happy” hormone that reduces pain. The average child laughs 300 times a day. Adults: 17 times. Research shows that keeping laughter alive keeps you alive. Make it priority to look for humor in life.

There are four homes and 14 additional structures representing a variety of building and architectural styles, from log to brick. Spanning a period from 1840 to 1910, the Village provides a context in which the lifestyles of the settlers of St. Louis County and the skills they used to survive are illustrated. Blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, and other antique arts are demonstrated at various times of the year.
General park hours are 8 a.m. – 30 minutes past sunset, when all buildings can be viewed from the outside at no cost. Brochures are available in information boxes, in our office, and online. In 2014, the Historic Village homes are open on select weekends in March, April, June, July and August. (See Special Events for dates.)
