Living Our Faith
What happened to Jesus in today’s gospel shouldn’t come as a surprise. Jesus didn’t fit the mold the people of Nazareth had cast for the Messiah. The Messiah was supposed to be the grandiose deliverer of Israel. And he definitely ‘wasn’t’ supposed to be from Nazareth. They rejected Jesus because they could not see beyond the man they knew as a boy. They could not see that God was right in front of them; and as a result, they missed out on untold works, mighty deeds and bountiful blessings. There are probably times when each of us has rejected the work or insight of a friend or an acquaintance because they didn’t meet our expectations either. Like Jesus in Nazareth, the blessings they bring to us are ‘right under our noses’ but we don’t take notice. Unfortunately, in dismissing them, we end up missing out on the message and works that God is sending our way. If we ask God to see others through his eyes, however, then he can help us to learn to look past our own preconceptions and truly see and hear him in those around us. July 5, 2015

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
