THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS a weekly bulletin & newsletter November 11, 2018 • 32 nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
15TH ANNUAL
FEAST OF GIVING NOVEMBER 22, 2018
Fifteen years ago, Parish Social Ministries started the tradition of feeding our needy brothers and sisters a great Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day. The 2018 annual Feast of Giving will be November 22 at Wozniak Hall from 11:00am – 2:00pm. The last few years, over 800+ individuals have been served with over 150 volunteers. The act of sharing not only allows volunteers to give of themselves to others, but brings the true meaning of this holiday to those who receive the meals. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry, the Social Ministry team could use at least two and a half hours of your time on Thanksgiving Day or the night before. Preparations and decorations are made on Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00pm and cooking begins at 8:00am on Thursday morning and lasts until 2:00pm. For additional information on volunteering, please contact Bea Dela Rosa at (512) 454-0384 x 265 or bea. delarosa@st-louis.org Volunteers must pre-register in advance by going to www.signupgenius.com and 1
search for 15th Annual Feast of Giving. We are so grateful for your willingness to help, but unexpected walk-in volunteers add to the chaos of trying to serve 800+ in a 3-hour period. Please assist us by telling us in advance that you will be there to help! Volunteers are needed for the following tasks: Coordinators for each station (new!), Volunteer Signin Table, kitchen help, greeters, servers, dessert table volunteers, drink station volunteers, bussers, waiters, Food donations needed: We CANNOT accept donations of raw or cooked turkeys. By Wednesday, November 21st, boxes of stuffing, gravy jars, instant potatoes, brown sugar, marshmallows, canned mushroom soup, French fried onions, cranberry sauce, etc. are to be delivered to the PSM Building. On Thanksgiving Day only (from 8:00-10:00am) please donate purchased desserts (all kinds) and bread/rolls. Thank you for your generosity in providing these food items!

November 11, 2018 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

• All Alumnae are invited to attend the annual Christmas Reunion Luncheon on Saturday, December 1 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 208 Barton Springs Rd, 11am2pm. Cost is $35. For information and to RSVP, please contact Nancy Stevens Hrin at TNEJS@aol. com or (512) 837-3658.
• Friendship Circle will meet on Nov. 14 for our weekly social time and have our Thanksgiving meal. Join us in Wozniak Hall from 9:30-1:00. All parish seniors are invited. Bring covered dish or dessert for the meal. Please RSVP by Nov. 12. For more information on the Friendship Circle, email seniors@st-louis.org or call church office 512 454-0384.
Prayer Blankets • The Prayer Blanket Ministry will hold a fundraiser on December 1-2 after all Masses. Prayer blankets make wonderful gifts for Christmas, Sacraments, and to comfort the ill. Watch for their sale and your support will benefit this ministry that so generously sponsors projects in the parish from their proceeds! Campaign for Human Development • Catholic Campaign for Human Development is the U.S. Catholic Bishops’ education-action program to combat poverty in this country. It is the largest national funding program for self-help projects for low-income families. This annual national collection is held November 17-18 and each diocese keeps 25 percent of its collection to use in local human development programs. Place envelopes in the regular collection that weekend and they will be forwarded to the Diocese. Thank you for your generosity! Catholic Services Appeal • Catholic Services Appeal for the Diocese of Austin has kicked off. If you received a personalized pledge card in the mail, please return it directly to the Diocese or in the parish collection. Pledge cards/ envelopes are available in the pews or Narthex tract racks. Check out the many ways you can give either by text, automatic deductions from credit/debit cards, electronic bank transfers or checks. Your gift can be one-time or spread over the next 10 months. Thank you for your generosity that will help St. Louis achieve its goal. Your participation is important in helping our Diocese sustain its operating expenses for the coming year!
Women’s Club • Ever wonder what are the activities behind putting on a radio program? We hear about engineers and producers – what do they do? What guides decisions on what music to play and in what order? If so, join the St. Louis Women’s Club on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to find out. There will be time to ask your own questions. The meeting begins with refreshments at 7:00 p.m. in Wozniak Hall and will conclude by 9:00. The club is still collecting new underwear and socks for children and adults who are victims of domestic abuse. We will also have our Secret Silent Auction where you can bid on various new or “regifting” items donated by others. In this auction type, a folded bid slip is placed in a container by the item. At the close, the highest bid wins.
FEASIBILITY STUDY Thank you, parishioners! We are grateful for your participation in the recent in-pew survey, and for those parishioners whose in-depth opinions were sought by the CCS Fundraiser. Your comments and opinions are meaningful in the decision-making that will be done going forward. We will keep you posted about the feasibility study report when it is returned to us. While we must go forward with the Capital Campaign for the Diocese in 2019, this feasibility study will help inform us about the scope of our parish campaign that will be run concurrently with the Diocese. Please continue to pray for the clergy and parishioners that will be discerning the goals and plans for the next 50-100 years of St. Louis Parish!
