RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS

T

he word vocation means calling. In particular it is a calling from God to a unique share in the Church’s mission, a personal way of following Jesus. This week is a special time for parishes in the United States to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaconate, married and consecrated life. This week avails us to the opportunity to speak about the unique gifts God has given us. In doing so, we recognize that God has provided these gifts for the purpose of building His Kingdom and our true fulfillment; attained in discovering and living out faithfully our particular vocation. We invite you to actively enter this discussion and prayer, especially with the youth of our parish. Encourage, Invite and Pray for all vocations, but in particular, vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. Clerics are ordained for sacred ministry in the Church. Those in holy orders are ordained primarily for sacred ministry. They act in Jesus’ person when they establish the Church by proclaiming the gospel and when they build her

Each religious is a person who adopts a distinctive style of Christian life, shaped by the promises of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Lay persons have special responsibility in day to day life. The laity’s primary responsibility is to bear witness by holding fast to the faith, offering their lives as a spiritual sacrifice, and growing in holiness. This is exercised in building holy families through the sacrament of matrimony.
