Living Our Faith
Like last week, the hypocrisy of scribes and the Pharisees is once again a central part of the gospel message. However, they are not the only participants. The others in the temple area--the ones John tells us came to Jesus for teaching--were also present when the woman was brought before Jesus. They were undoubtedly caught in the middle. On one side, the pillars of the Jewish faith. And on the other, a simple carpenter. Centuries of Jewish Law versus a revolutionary message of love. Today, even if we don’t play the role of a Pharisee in bringing the sins of another to light, we are often a member of the crowd--looking to familiar authority figures for validation of right and wrong. But now, just as in the gospel, Jesus shows us a path of love rather than punishment. He did not condemn the woman, but told her to go and sin no more. This is also our role as his disciples; to strive to sin no more…not to condemn each other for our transgressions.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
