Living Our Faith

It’s obvious that Jesus didn’t run the message in today’s gospel by the marketing and public relations team. If he had, they probably would have asked him to tone down the mention of roaring seas, shaking the powers of heaven and people dying of fright. It’s not the type of message that resonates positively with people, especially nowadays as we are constantly told by society that we are entitled to be happy and comfortable at all times. This can make it easier to let down our guard and not practice our vigilance of faith as Jesus mentions. Jesus tells us in today’s gospel that while the door to our salvation is available to everyone, it is difficult to walk thru, especially for those who lapse in their faith or put it off to the future. Why does he warn us? Simply because he loves us and wants us to always be prepared to be with him. And that is wonderful news. The savior who humbled himself to become human among us wants to continue his relationship with each and every one of us for all eternity. As we begin this 2015 Advent season, why not spend a few extra minutes each day this week to thank God and ask him to help you stay focused and motivated to live a holy, Christian life.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe

HISPANIC

MINISTRIES FUNDRAISING | The Hispanic Via Crucis group will be selling breakfast taco, Quesadillas de pollo, Mexican Menudo, Mole with rice, water, coffee, Juice, and Milk on Sunday, November 29th in Wozniak Hall after each Mass, starting at 6:00 a.m. and finishing after 1:30 p.m. Mass. Everybody is welcome to come and enjoy Hispanic food, Antojitos Mexicanos! ADVENT PENANCE SERVICES | Please mark your

calendars for our parish penance services to be held early in Advent. On Wednesday, December 2nd at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, there will be multiple priests available to hear your confession. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to reconcile with God before the Christmas rush! ST. LOUIS FARM FALL LEAF DRIVE | Have you raked

your leaves yet? Do you have a few (or many!) bags sitting around? St. Louis Farm needs them! We use them each winter as a natural weed barrier -- and need a lot to cover all our land. If you can donate your bagged, dry leaves, please bring them to the empty lot behind the farm, located next to 7606 Hardy Drive, and leave them near the wooden gate at your convenience. We will put them to use as soon as they arrive! Email stlouisfarmatx@gmail.com with any questions. It's an easy way to help the Farm in its work of cultivating fresh vegetables for the St. Louis Food Pantry all year long. DECK THE BUSHES | Volunteers needed on Saturday,

December 5th, to help us “Deck the Bushes” with Christmas lights. Please join us at 9:00am on the walkway between Church and Rectory as we prepare to light up the campus for the holidays! Individuals and families of all ages are welcome…the more the merrier! Lunch provided for the volunteers. Questions? Call Tony Garcia at 512-653-6667. PARISH GIVING TREES are located in the Narthex and

Bell Tower. Each tree has tags with suggested gift items for one of our Parish Social Ministry Programs at St. Louis. You and your family are invited to select tags and purchase the gift, returning it (unwrapped) to the Giving Trees (or the Church offices) no later than Sunday, December 20th. Thank you for helping to bring Christmas to the neediest among us!

O’ COME LET US ADORE HIM - ADORATION MINISTRY | We have the wonderful gift in our parish of

having Eucharistic Adoration. We have a chapel that provides time and space for church members to come before our Lord. The Blessed Sacrament is in Exposition 24/7. Many church members and visitors come before the Lord during day time hours and during night time hours. We are extending an invitation to all church members to volunteer to come to Adoration. We will have an Adoration Ministry Information Meeting on Tuesday, December 1: one at 2:00 p.m. and one at 7:00 p.m. Currently, everyone who is a registered adorer who visits the Blessed Sacrament has a key code to enter our Adoration Chapel. Soon the key code will be changed. There are other changes that we are making to improve attendance to Adoration and to improve security for those who come to worship. For more information please contact: Chris Ojeda or Peter Polito at adoration@st-louis.org IMMACULATE CONCEPTION will include a Vigil Mass

this year, in addition to the holy day Masses. Monday, December 7 6:00pm Vigil Mass

(December 5-6) in the Narthex, just in time for your Christmas gift giving. These blankets are lovingly made by our Prayer Blanket Ministry and are clergy blessed. They make great gifts for special occasions, and especially for shut-ins and those who are ill and suffering. Proceeds from the sale of these blankets are generously returned to the parish for designated projects! Thank you for your past support of this parish ministry! PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY!

Look for brochures in the narthex tract racks! The trip takes place between December 27, 2016 to January 5, 2017. Our choir will be participating at a Papal Mass with His Holiness, Pope France, for the January 1st Feast Day of Mary in the Basilica of St. Ignatius. You don't have to be a choir member to attend! We had a special surprise in our Pre-K class. The ECDC Pre-K class is going to start joining us for lunch every Friday, where our students will have a chance to interact with each other. ECDC children had the opportunity to buy hot lunch from Chef Felipe and were treated to an early Thanksgiving dinner. It was a great day and we look forward to spending every Friday with our new friends.

ADVENT LESSONS AND CAROLS | On Monday,

November 30th at 7:00 pm, there will be a Service of Advent Lessons and Carols in the main church. If you’re familiar with our Lessons and Carols which precedes Midnight Mass, then you will love this service, in which the readings and the music follow a similar format, but touch on themes of Advent rather than Christmas. The service will last about 1 hour, and presents you with a prayerful way to commence the Advent season. CONCERT OF CZECH MUSIC | The

University Choir from UNT will present a concert of music by Czech composers, on Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00 pm in the chapel. This promises to be a really interesting event. Czech composers are generally under-represented in concerts, and they have produced some of the most beautiful music. A special feature will be the Christmas Mass setting by Jakub Jan Ryba (1765-1815). Be sure and get this on your calendar. Admission is free. AUSTIN CIVIC WIND ENSEMBLE CONCERT |

Saturday, December 12th, 7:30 p.m. in the main church. The ACWE returns for another Christmas Spectacular! Don’t miss this fun, family-oriented event, which has in a few short years become a tradition at our parish. Admission is free and open to the public. 5

ADVENT ORGAN CONCERTS | The Advent Organ Concert series is a long-standing and beloved musical tradition at St. Louis Parish, continuing this year with a couple of outstanding performances in store for you:

Tuesday, December 1st: Chris Oelkers, organ, and Robert Laguna, trumpet.

Tuesday, December 15th: Storm Knien, organ (Director of Music at St. Albert Parish).

The concerts take place at 12:00 noon in the main church and are free. A nice hot lunch may be had in the parish hall afterward, for $7.00. BENEFIT CONCERT FOR DRIVE-A-SENIOR | Join us

Friday, December 4th, 7:30 p.m. in the main church, for this annual neighborhood benefit concert for Drive-a-Senior. The churches that support this community outreach to our senior citizens come together with Advent and Christmas music in a traditional celebration of ecumenical unity. Concert is free but donations are gratefully accepted and benefit this wonderful ministry. Drive-a-Senior (formerly North Central Caregivers) helps neighborhood shut-in seniors stay in their own homes, with volunteers offering regularly scheduled rides to doctors and grocery stores. Volunteers from all the supporting neighborhood churches give two-four hours a week in support of our seniors.
