Living Our Faith

The story in today’s gospel begins with a very large crowd following Jesus. Yet, among all the activity, Bartimaeus manages to get Jesus’ attention. Not at first, but with his persistence in proclaiming that Jesus as “the Son of David.” Even with the rebuke of those around him, his eagerness and sincerity are evident. There is something more to Bartimaeus. He has a very childlike acceptance of the Lord, and Jesus recognizes it. Unlike the rich young man two weeks ago, and James and John last week, Bartimaeus is not there to trade deeds or loyalty with Jesus for salvation. He simply wants to see and is willing to humble himself before the Lord to accept whatever blessing Jesus bestows. “Go your way,” Jesus tells Bartimaeus, “your faith has saved you.” And Bartimaeus, realizing that Jesus is his “way,” immediately begins to follow him. It can be difficult in today’s frenetic and entitled world to simply humble ourselves and ask for God’s help with a pure heart. But when we do, our faith will show us the way to follow Jesus more clearly, just as Bartimaeus did.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe

FUN FEST 2015 IS TODAY! Today is

Fun Fest, and St. Louis Catholic School invites all parishioners and friends to join the celebration. Come out to the parking lot for games and prizes. Inside Wozniak Hall, you'll find food, BINGO, the Silent Auction, and the Country Store. The field offers exciting activities for children and adults alike. The raffle drawing will be held at 2:30pm on the main stage, and we have lots to keep you busy before and after that. Our school is your school; thank you for your generous support. Remember, Fun Fest runs TODAY ONLY from 11am to 4pm. PARISH LIBRARY | Come enjoy a quiet time in the parish

library away from that dirty laundry waiting or the dust gathering on the furniture. Bring the kids and take time to read to them from the children's collection. Pick up a book about your favorite saint or learn more about Pope Francis. We are open most Sundays from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays each week from 9:00 - noon and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. The St. Louis Parish Library will be closed on the following days: Sunday, October 25 for Fun Fest and Sunday, November 8 for the CRSP Men's Retreat.

ST. LOUIS FARM | Thank you to everyone who came out to help at the St. Louis Farm Work Days! We had two very productive Saturdays, and we look forward to watching the Farm bear the fruits of your labor. If you had a great time, or if you couldn't make it those weekends, please join us during weekly work hours, which are every Thursday from 4-6pm and every Saturday from 9-11am. With the cooler fall days and new crops needing nurturing, it's the perfect time to come out and help us in our mission to provide fresh vegetables to the St. Louis Food Pantry! The Farm is located at the southeastern corner of the church property- near the corner of St. Joseph and Hardy Street. Email us at stlouisfarmatx@ gmail.com if you have any questions.

BEING CATHOLIC IN A MODERN AMERICA | Join us for our Fall Priests

Series with Fr. James Misko and Fr. David Trahan on Thursday evenings from 7:008:30pm, through November 5. This five-part series will address the difficult questions of our time, including Catholic theology on marriage and family, human sexuality, beginning and end of life issues, bio-ethics and prayer. Each session will consist of a presentation by Fathers Misko and Trahan with table chats and group discussion. Come enrich your understanding of how relevant and important our faith is in today’s culture! A companion text for the class will be Craig Gay’s The Way of the Modern World. Purchase of this book is not necessary for class participation, but you are invited to buy a copy on your own if you would like to explore this resource in depth

MASS FOR

ALL SOULS DAY MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND 7:00 PM MAIN CHURCH Parishioners are encouraged to bring photos of your deceased loved ones for this 7pm Mass. Tables will be set-up near the podiums where you can place your photos. The Pascal candles that burned at funeral Masses over the years will also be displayed as a reminder of the Light of Christ to which we are all called at death. Please join us in remembrance of those who have gone before us.

HANDS OF MERCY is the theme for this year’s annual Catholic Services Appeal for the Diocese of Austin. The CSA

kicks off November 7-8 and you are invited to bring your personalized CSA envelopes for the second collection that day. (Envelopes will also be available in the pews.) Your donation to the CSA is a powerful witness of God’s love. By contributing, you are helping those in need, promoting a culture of life, supporting religious vocations, reaching out to youth in campus ministries/youth programs, and bringing people to God through spirituality and worship. Please prayerfully consider what you might give to assist this important work of the Church of Central Texas. 3

ANNUAL APPEAL St. Louis Catholic School is committed to providing a quality, affordable Catholic education for students in and around the Austin area. Providing a quality program, however, results in a difference between what is paid in tuition and the actual cost to educate each child. Thankfully for decades St. Louis Catholic School has been faithfully supported by the good people of this parish and countless others who have given precious resources to ensure that we continue this tradition. From October through December, please look for the Heart of St. Louis Annual Appeal brochures and envelopes in the Church. You are invited to give a one-time gift or to pledge your ongoing support to help our amazing school strengthen the Heart of Christ, in the Heart of Austin. The Annual Appeal is your opportunity to join in the mission of St. Louis Catholic School, as we prepare the leaders of tomorrow with the light of Christ as their guide.
