Living Our Faith
It’s not uncommon to identify with Peter. He is strong willed and faithful. Yet, he still stumbles in his faith. In today’s gospel, it is Peter who proclaims Jesus as the Christ. It is a watershed moment and it appears that he has it all figured out. Yet very soon afterward, just as he is getting used to this new awareness of Jesus, he is humbly reminded of how much he still doesn’t know. In a sense, he rushed ahead and ended up in a place where Jesus didn’t want him to be. We all have our “Peter” moments as well, with each other, and also with God. We reach a new awareness with our faith, and just as we’re trying to figure out how to embrace it, something happens to remind us that we don’t know as much as we thought and that we moved too fast for our own good. Like Jesus’ rebuke of Peter, it can be humbling and even frustrating at times as we search for the next step on our faith journey. But if we stay faithful to Jesus, as Peter did, he will lead us to each next step and help us to keep the right pace…all the way to eternal life.

Viviendo Nuestra Fe
