Developing a Model in Matlab/Simulink Environment for Induction Motor Considering Core Loss and Stray Load Loss Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Rupak Kanti Dhar*, Md. Ehtashamul Haque Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, American International University-Bangladesh, Kemal Ataturk Avenue, Banani, Dhaka-1213, Bangladesh Abstract This paper focuses on a Matlab/Simulink model of a squirrel-cage induction motor with consideration of core loss and stray load loss. This model is based on some mathematical expressions and also described through an equivalent circuit including core loss and stray load loss. The model of induction motor has been developed based on the state space equations in a synchronously rotating reference frame, where core loss and stray load losses were taken under consideration. The developed model allows testing the performance of an induction motor in different operating conditions and the performance of different designed control systems to control speed, flux and torque of an induction motor. The designed model has been tested for several operating conditions through the simulation in Matlab/Simulink environment.

Voltage and Frequency Control of a Self Excited Induction Generator Using VSI Sunny Vig*, Kamalkant Sharma, Balwinder Singh Surjan Electrical Engg. Department, Punjab Engineering College, University of Technology, Chandigarh, India Abstract In remote areas of a country where it is impossible or too expensive to access main power lines, one solution to obtain electric power is to use a small stand-alone hydro power plant. In such a situation, the turbine is been driven by a steady flow of water in a river. It is preferable to use a self-excited induction generator, due to its low cost an ruggedness. The voltage and frequency of such an induction generator in stand- alone operation are very sensitive to load changes. Various methods had been proposed to control the voltage and frequency of a self excited induction generator. This paper describes that by applying voltage source inverter in parallel to the load, the regulation of voltage and frequency can be achieved. After developing the controller, regulated voltage and frequency operation of the self-excited induction generator is simulated by using MALAB with a squirrel cage type induction generator. The aim is the total elimination of the AC capacitor bank.

Abstract India ranks fourth in terms of purchasing power and is eleventh largest economy of the world. Solar Energy, Animal wastes, and Crop residues are some of the major renewable sources available in rural areas of India that can be harnessed in an efficient way to meet the energy demand. After assessing the Existing Village (Nangal), it was found that Hybrid Renewable Energy System is an optimum solution for complete electrification of rural areas. These natural resources can be used to produce energy to enhance the living standards of the villagers, provide clean energy and reducing the burden on conventional grid. This paper aims to devise a plan for a village with a complete solution to meet domestic energy demand of a village by Renewable energy sources and reliable electricity supply.

A Core Loss Model Based on Finite Element Method for Switched Reluctance Generator Considering Different Control Modes Ganji Babak, Heidarian Mahdi* Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Kashan, Kashan, Iran Abstract In the present paper, core loss modeling of switched reluctance generator (SRG) is proposed for the first time. Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, 2D FE transient analysis of SRG is carried out and the stator pole flux waveform is predicted. To determine the flux waveforms in the different parts of the machine, an introduced mathematical flux model is considered and its algorithm is implemented in ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL). Core loss related to the determined flux waveforms are calculated based on the improved Steinmetz equation. The core loss model created totally in APDL can be applied to different conventional types of SRG. Applying the developed core loss model to an 8/6 SRG, simulation results including the flux waveforms and relevant core loss are presented for both single pulse control mode and PWM control mode.
