Wengen is located at 4180ft a.s.l. on a sunny terrace above Lauterbrunnen. Wengen is only accessible by the cog railway. Enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the winter paradise in Wengen and explore the charming mountains. LAUTERBRUNNEN

By public transport

The journey with the blue and yellow train of the Bernese Oberland Bahn (BOB) from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen takes 20 minutes. You board the front part of the train, as it splits in Zweilütschinen. The coaches at the back will take you to Grindelwald.

By car

The drive from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen takes about 30 minutes. In winter you have to expect snow-covered roads and black ice.

From the airports Bern, Basel, Zürich and Geneva trains bring you to Lauterbrunnen via Interlaken Ost. From there you get to Wengen by the Wengernalpbahn on which you enjoy beautiful views. The Swiss railway system offers various tickets such as the Swiss Travel Pass. You find further information at any train station in Switzerland.

By car

Stay on highway A6 / A8 to Interlaken and take the exit “Wilderswil”. After 15 minutes you reach Lauterbrunnen and its covered parking which is linked to the train station. That’s where the Wengernalpbahn leaves for Wengen.

From Interlaken “Ost” railway station you reach Mürren in 53 minutes. The blue and yellow train of the “Berner Oberland Bahn” (BOB) takes you to Lauterbrunnen. You board the front part of the train, as the rear part leaves from Zweilütschinen for Grindelwald. Afterwards you have two options. Via Grütschalp (cable car and train): At Lauterbrunnen station you take the cable car to Grütschalp. Here you change to a small train which takes you to Mürren. The journey from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren takes 20 minutes. Or via Stechelberg (bus and cable car: In Lauterbrunnen you take the bus towards Stechelberg and travel to the Schilthornbahn station. Then take the cable car via Gimmelwald to Mürren. You need 30 minutes for this route.

By car

Mürren is car-free. If you arrive by car, you have to leave it in Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg and use public transport to get to Mürren. The journey from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen takes approx. 30 minutes and to Stechelberg 35 minutes. In winter you have to expect snow-covered roads and black ice.

GIMMELWALD

By public transport

From Interlaken Ost railway station you can reach Gimmelwald in 54 minutes. Take the blue and yellow train of the Berner Oberland Bahn (BOB) this takes you to Lauterbrunnen. You board the front part of the train the rear part of the train goes from Zweilütschinen on to Grindelwald. In Lauterbrunnen you change to the bus in the direction Stechelberg and continue to the Schilthorn cable car station. Then take the cable car to Gimmelwald.

By car

Gimmelwald is car-free. If you arrive by car, you must leave it in Stechelberg and take the cable car to Gimmelwald (5 minute ride). The journey to Stechelberg takes about 35 minutes. In the winter you must expect snow-covered roads and black ice.

TRAFFIC FREE VILLAGES

Wengen, Mürren and Gimmelwald have no connection to the public road network. Nevertheless there are special permits granted by the local authorities for transport and construction companies and local trades to deliver the goods and waste disposal. Traffic laws apply to all vehicle owners except farmers who are permitted to drive as and when required. If you get irritated by the traffic in the villages, please bear in mind that heating fuel as well as food and drinks must be delivered to the shops and hotels. For luggage and goods transport, there are at all stations, hand carts or trolleys, which can be used for a deposit. This will help to keep Wengen and Mürren as trafficfree as possible. PARKING LAUTERBRUNNEN

The Lauterbrunnen parking is located at the entrance of the village, next to the Lauterbrunnen station. Parking spaces can be reserved online for a minimum of 5 days (winter). Please enter the parking code upon arrival. A separate reservation must be made for each vehicle.

There is a car park at the Schilthorn Cable Car station in Stechelberg.

We recommend that holiday guests purchase a 7, 14 or 30 day prepaid ticket. Take a ticket on entering the car park, go to the automatic payment machine, select the prepaid option and pay CHF 42, CHF 68 or CHF 84. The ticket is then validated to allow unrestricted exit and access to the car park for a period of 7,14 or 30 days respectively. The ticket must be inserted into the exit ticket machine and is automatically reissued each time the holder exits the car park.

With an altitude of 1650 m to 3000 m above sea level. This is the highest winter sports area in the Bernese Oberland. On around 56 km of pistes best snow conditions are guaranteed until springtime. For snowboarders and ski acrobats, there is now the Maulerhubel / Winteregg area open, the SKYLINE SNOWPARK with kickers, rails and boxes. And before the first ski run, connoisseurs will enjoy the view of of 200 Alpine peaks in the revolving restaurant on top of the Schilthorn.

Requirements: Excellent skier and experience in off-piste skiing.

Inscription: the day before (Wednesday) 04.00 pm at Tourist Centre. Skiing without standing in line and pure freedom. This is skitouring. Experience the unique skitouring hills around of Wengen. A certified guide takes you off-piste and teaches you about the basic rules of skitouring.

TELEMARK WENGEN

Every Thursday from 27.12., 01.45 pm 2 – 3h, CHF 95 p.P., Incl. Guide, rental of Telemark-Ski, -bindings, -shoes and poles.

Requirements: experienced skier.

Inscription: The day before (Monday) until 04.00 pm at Tourist Centre One of the oldest Alpine and Nordic skiing technique. Telemark is named after the Telemark region of Norway, where the discipline originated. A certified guide will take you up to Maennlichen, where you learn all about the Telemark skiing.
