Letter From ports President pat filippone Dear Stockton Ports Fans: As the 2015 season comes to a close I would like to thank you for your passionate support of the Stockton Ports. The season has been a joyous and successful one in many ways - on and off the field. As the only Oakland Athletics affiliate located in California we have a unique opportunity of seeing both future and current A’s players up close in our community. You have clearly demonstrated your high level of dedication and commitment this season, showing why you are the best fans in the California League. I am joined by our ownership and all of our front office, on-field personnel, and game day staff when I say thank you for your support this season. The 2015 season included amazing achievements on the field, like our current push for the postseason, our exhibition game against Delta Community College, Franklin Barreto’s performance as one of the youngest players in the League, Matt Chapman’s home run surge, Dylan Covey’s Mid-Season All-Star nod, A’s organization debut for three trade acquisitions (Casey Meisner, Daniel Mengden, and Jacob Nottingham), MLB debuts for six former Ports (A.J. Cole, Dusty Coleman, Tyler Ladendorf, Arnold Leon, Max Muncy, and Addison Russell) and extra-inning walk-off wins. In addition to these exciting performances and happenings, we have made several exciting strides off the field. The Ports Anchor Fund generated over $19,000 this season from the generous support of fans at various events. Every cent of those funds will go to support child and health-based community outreach programs in Stockton and San Joaquin County. In addition, we are proud to serve our community by partnering with various local and national entities to utilize Banner Island Ballpark for other events above and beyond Stockton Ports games. These events generate national attention and significant local economic activity for our community. It’s been a pleasure to serve you and to bring the best family entertainment in our region to Banner Island Ballpark! Thanks for coming to the ballpark this year, and I look forward to seeing you back in 2016! Go Ports!
Sincerely,
Pat Filippone President

PLAYERs TO WATCH antonio senzatela Position - P Throws- R Drafted - Signed as a free agent 2015 - 8-7, 2.40 ERA, 135 IP, 124 SO At only 20 years of age, Senzatela could be one of the Rockies’ biggest pitching prospects of the future. In 2014, Senzatela pieced together his strongest MiLB season with a 15-2 record along with a 3.12 ERA. In the hitterfriendly California League, he has picked up right where he left off, proving to be one of the strongest pitchers in the Nuts rotation.
correlle prime Position - 1B Throws - R Bats - R Drafted - 2012 (Round 12) 2015 - .234 AVG, 12 HR, 65 RBI Following a stellar 2013 season that saw the Bradenton, Florida Native hit 21 home runs and 102 RBI, Prime has been a solid everyday player for the Nuts. While his average has dipped in 2015, the righty has a strong glove at first base and has still managed to hit for power. Prime is currently listed as the #25 overall prospect in the Rockies’ organization.

year in review As another season of Stockton Ports baseball comes to an end and we close the book on the 10th anniversary year of Banner Island Ballpark, fans can certainly appreciate the exciting ride. From impressive winning streaks and walk-off hits, with playoff pushes and top prospects leaving their marks on the field, fans were certainly entertained during the course of the season. After a 2014 season which saw the Ports finish at 85-55 (one of MiLB’s best marks), a completely new team took the field in 2015 leaving much uncertainty of what to expect from a young ball club. While there were early bumps in the road, the Ports eventually came together and pulled off a 9-game winning streak to close out the first half of the season and finished just 4 games back of a Visalia Rawhide squad that dominated the early part of the season. With solid pitching from promising prospects like Dillon Overton (eventually promoted to Double-A Midland) and 2015 All-Star Dylan Covey, the Ports proved to be force to be reckoned with in June. Early season stars such as B.J. Boyd and Brett Vertigan provided the Ports with solid offense and speed on the base path. Another highlight of the 2015 season was the emergence of Oakland A’s top prospect Franklin Barreto. While the Venezuelan product stumbled out of the gates in the early part of the season, by May he became one of the California League’s most feared hitters and essentially carried the Ports on his back in June and July. Another spark plug to the Ports’ offense was A’s #5 prospect Matt Chapman. Chapman did not join the Ports until the month of May as the result of rehabbing from an injury. It didn’t take the righty too long to adapt to High-A baseball as he quickly became the jolt of power the Ports needed. In just 77 games played, Chapman put up 23 home runs and 56 RBI and at one point led the California League in home runs. Chapman’s glove at third base proved to be just as fun to watch as his offensive performances while he continued to make dazzling plays each night. At the big league level, the Oakland Athletics struggled in 2015, and as the MLB trade deadline approached, GM Billy Beane began to invest in the future, dealing prominent pitchers like Scott Kazmir and Tyler Clippard. It was these two trades that specifically added a nice boost to the Ports’ roster and began a late season playoff push. Astros top prospects (and Lancaster JetHawks at the time) Jacob Nottingham and Daniel Mengden joined the Ports’ roster in what was known as the “dugout-to-dugout trade.” The Ports were playing in Lancaster when the trade was announced, prompting both players to leave their own dugouts and walk across the field to join the Ports in the visitors’ dugout. The move paid off right away for the Ports as Nottingham brought a powerful bat to the lineup at the catcher position which the Ports lacked all season. Mengden also added a nice bonus to the Ports’ starting rotation.

by taylor mccarthy In the A’s trade of closer Tyler Clippard to the Mets, the Ports received 20-year-old pitching prospect Casey Meisner who many scouts pegged to have a high ceiling in his potential to be a big leaguer. Even with the Ports losing several players to injuries and promotions (Sportman, Chapman and Barretto have all been lost to injuries while Rickles, Overton, McCurry, and Taylor were all promoted to Double-A), they still are in place for a playoff berth. With a three-way race between division rivals Modesto and San Jose heating up, the Ports are in the position to make the playoffs for the second season in a row. This feat would be more than impressive when you look at the obstacles (injuries/promotions) they have faced. This certainly isn’t the top California League team from a year ago, but this is a toughnosed group of individuals who have come together to possibly make something special by year’s end.

The Stockton Ports Anchor Fund was established in 2007 and focuses on benefiting youth non-profit organizations and sports. The Anchor Fund exemplifies the Stockton Ports’ dedication to community involvement, through various donations and fundraisers that take place at Banner Island Ballpark, such as Root Beer Float Day, Anchor Fund Weekend, and the annual Youth Baseball Camp. All of the proceeds from the various fundraisers go directly to the San Joaquin Community, focusing on youth non-profit organizations. Additionally, the Ports host events for local beneficiaries, including Prostate Cancer Awareness Night and Pink Night, to benefit Sutter Gould Medical Foundation and St. Joseph’s Medical Center Breast Health Services and help spread awareness of the causes.
The Ports would like to thank fans for their continued support of the Anchor Fund and its various events throughout the season. For more information on how you can help the Anchor Fund, please contact the Ports Front Office at 209-644-1953.
