Having personally grown up in the local area, I am incredibly passionate about my town and the local communities that surround us. It’s where I call home, but my modern community vision is fed from an amalgamation of living and travelling experiences of other inspiring places. Beyond my own personal passion, our team is largely made up of local or adopted local creatives that enjoy the community that we work and live in. Community is at the core of the Sanders + Jay and STONES philosophy and will remain as part of our mission as we move forward. When it comes to giving back to the community, any action big or small can make a real difference. We have made a pledge to take part in a community activity every month. Our community programme is led by our Community Development Manager and newest member on the team; Jenna Johnson. Jenna has an abundance of experience of working with the community, already known by many in the area, and she has a true passion for helping people and businesses alike.

“I am so excited to join the STONES team. It puts me in a position to really make a difference to local businesses. The magazine is rapidly growing and I love being a part of it”. Jenna Johnson, Community Manager Our most recent activities in the local area include; litter picking across the town, largely on the heath and commercial areas, which seem to be affected the most and we are making an active plea to think about your litter rather than relying on post pick up. In addition to this, we have sponsored an array of local community events such as the Royston Football Tournament, Hanson Services Charity Golf Day and we are actively working on more community projects which we can’t wait to share with you. If we all continue to make positive contributions towards our community, it will be a place that we are all truly proud to call home. Sometimes giving back to the community is as simple as giving, but we want to do more than that and take an active stance on making our home a better place to live. If you have a community project and would like to discuss gaining the support and help of our team, please get in touch and we would be happy to discuss it over a coffee.

Just two years ago, like many, Becka Heaps was looking for an additional source of income. She had already been hiring out her beloved bell tent to people she knew and decided to list it on a directory to offer it out to a wider audience. Much to her surprise, there were no existing directories for tents and camping equipment hire, which is where the brilliant idea for Tentshare was born. Tentshare is a peer to peer marketplace. It’s a purpose led business with rapidly increasing interest from the nationwide camping community. It has made camping accessible for all as well as reducing the carbon costs of tents across the country. Becka is on the board of directors for a company called Camplight, which predominantly rescues and reuses tents abandoned at festivals. She also volunteers at Royston repair café, working on saving broken tents from landfill. She spoke at the Sharing Economy Global Summit and is also set to speak at the Reset Connect conference in June. She is a one woman, tent saving superhero! If you have a tent that’s gathering dust in the garage then you could get it listed within 5 minutes and start earning some money from it this summer, whilst also saving the planet! There are also opportunities, through Becka, to claim a rescued tent to list yourself.

Stephen Marsh founded Pinkster Gin in 2013, when he turned what had been a hobby into a business. After 4 years on the wagon, on doctors’ orders following a stomach problem, he was told he could only drink Gin or Vodka. He thought Vodka was dull and fell in love with gin. When he couldn’t find a gin he could drink with food he set out to make his own and nearly 5 years later, with much trial and error along the way, had perfected the recipe for Pinkster. It took a couple more years before he was persuaded to sell it commercially. A serial entrepreneur, he trained as Chartered Accountant and qualified in 1991 before setting up the toyshop chain, Cheeky Monkeys and then leading an MBO of Consolidated Communications in the West end of London. He also founded Myfamilysilver.com. The father of four lives in Barley, with his wife Justine and runs Pinkster Gin from premises in Newton and Fowlmere. Stephen is passionate about environmental issues and is working tirelessly, with the rest of Team Pinkster, to reduce the carbon cost of each bottle of Pinkster gin.

Getting Summer Ready S TON E S
P R E SE N T
After spending two summers largely under some form of house arrest, it’s time to freshen up the loungewear and start the summer parade. With people excited to be 'out out', nothing says 'I’m ready to take on the world' like a bright pop of colour, showing off some skin and oversized sunglasses at the helm. Whether you are off jet setting in search of the sun, entertaining friends in the garden or out on the town, make sure you're summer ready. And we're not just talking clothes. Accessorise it up! Think about a hair freshen up or perhaps it's time to get back to the experts taking care of beauty treatments. Painted summer nails are calling and fresh pedicures to show off the full potential of those new sandals.

Nails There's nothing better, to feel summer ready, than looking down at a set of freshly painted nails. Book an appointment with The Ruby Rooms for your summer nail treatments. Whether it's coloured, soft gel tips or painted overlays. Pastels with a flash of neon will certainly get you excited for warmer days ahead. Nail art, minimal or statement, is key this season to add a bit of fun and a great way to inject some colour. If you prefer classic and subtle nails then modern twists on the French manicure are for you, whether it's thin cuticles or angled tips. And, if in doubt, Hot Pink is the colour of summer 2022! Thanks to the Pantone Colour of the Year 2022, lilac, (aka Pantone 17-3938 'Very Peri') has been revealed as the 2022 Colour of the Year. A periwinkle blue, whimsical shade, that is said to merge realism and escapism to symbolise optimism and change, encapsulating the transitional times we are currently living through.

Classic Neutrals
And finally, there are the classic neutrals, incorporating wardrobe staples with modern twists. Understated timeless looks, with subtle juxtapositions to keep it fresh.
Belts Whether, it's to accentuate your waist, break up an outfit colour or print, or simply to hold up a pair of ill-fitting trousers. Belts are a wardrobe staple, and you can have some fun here with styling to freshen up a classic outfit.
Eyebrows The most popular eyebrow trend for 2022 by far, is brow lamination. The semi-permanent treatment provides perfectly placed, brushed up brows that last for months. Palm's beauty therapists offer brow lamination, along with many other treatments, from permanent make up, that won't smudge or wash off when you're on holiday, to skin peels and dermaplaning. Each skincare, beauty or wellness treatment is tailored to what you need, entirely bespoke, with added Palm touches!Had enough of the DIY? Let Palm take care of your beauty needs and get summer ready. "This is your space. Somewhere for you to escape the stresses of everyday life, a place for self-care a place of relaxation, a real retreat." Palm Beauty & Aesthetics - The Old Telephone Exchange, Royston Road, Melbourn
White For the more minimal among us, white is staying strong and should be weaved into your wardrobe essentials this summer. Whether it's the white t-shirt or white shirt, these key staples have the power to make even the shabbiest outfit suddenly feel put together.
Polka Dots All over polka-dots, mixing of scales, or a subtle hint; dot to dots are still a great, easy print, which can be brightened up with a flash of colour.

An enchanting country estate nestled in the rolling countryside, just outside Royston, Sandon Manor is a family run farm with a recently refurbished Queen Anne Manor House, which is steeped in history. Situated off the country lanes, the Manor is reached by a stone driveway edged with black iron fencing and sits grandly and proudly encompassed in the grounds of a formal garden and large lawn. It is within 1200 acres of land, which is being converted to rewilded countryside. Once you step inside the house it quite simply takes your breath away. There is an infiltration of light, cascading through the huge sash windows, highlighting the exquisite decor, high ceilings, intricate details and beautiful interior styling. The 7 bedroom Manor itself sleeps up to 16 people and is offered as a stunningly perfect getaway destination, for gatherings and special occasions. Six of the bedrooms face south, overlooking the gardens, again with expansive windows in each room which are spacious and elegantly decorated. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and walk-in wardrobe, and the two other bedrooms on the first floor have decadent, private bathrooms. On the top floor the four bedrooms share two shower rooms. The bathrooms are like bedrooms in size; vast, light and airy with high quality finishes.

Gather for a sit-down dinner in the dining room that sits up to 16, or keep it relaxed in the heart of the house; the stunning modernised kitchen. Alternatively, cook outdoors on the built-in brick BBQ. You can envisage sitting after dark, sharing stories and laughter around the roaring fire in the lounge, whilst the teenagers make the most of the games room. If you would like a special meal to be included, a full catering service is available on request, and a professional chef could be arranged to come in and do it all for you. You could treat yourselves to an afternoon tea hamper on the estate, or appreciate being at one with nature, with a woodland dining experience. The Sandon Manor team have really thought about everything and it is evident that their passion for design, style, beauty, history, nature, hosting and entertaining have come together to create a stylishly unique and breathtaking experience for guests at the Sandon Manor Estate. This continues even further, as they have been busy putting together an exciting range of estate experiences for guests to enjoy and make their time here unforgettable. Some are organised by the team themselves, whilst others involve local artisans coming in to share their own expertise. From a guided nature walk on the estate, to a deep tissue massage or an art session in the ancient orchard. There really is something to suit all tastes and make the whole experience bespoke and special.

Also on the grounds is The Dovecote. As you might guess from the name, this standalone building was once used to house the estate’s doves and has stayed true to its heritage with a wall of boulins still included in the décor. It is an exquisite, self contained, boutique bolthole for two. The Dovecote has a huge mezzanine bedroom, cosy seating area and a wood burning stove. This can be used on its own, or along with the manor, for larger groups. If you’re looking for an intimate wedding venue then this really is the perfect location. The happy couple can get married on site and then hire the whole manor to make it a weekend
for guests to cherish and remember. Elsewhere on the grounds, in the old barns, a very exciting renovation project is well underway. Due to be completed at the start of 2023, this purpose-built wedding venue will be unlike anything else in our area. We are thrilled to have been invited to come back when the project is finished, so that we can bring you all of the details, at a later date. The bespoke options, for a stay, really are endless and you can make it whatever you want it to be. Sandon Manor is a truly unique and charming place, it certainly gets our seal of approval and is highly recommended by the STONES team.

Summer Fun
The summertime offers a huge opportunity to go explore and make some memories, so don’t get caught on the hop, get your planner out and don’t miss a minute. Whether or not the sun decides to descend upon us, we have a whole host of amazing ideas to keep you on your toes all summer long. Not every experience or moment has to be expensive, there is so much to explore that doesn’t cost a penny and it's right in front of you. If the sun has got his hat on, it is truly hip, hip, hip, hooray as your options vastly increase if we are graced with summer rays. Sometimes we feel the need to spend big and seek greater entertainment, but you should spend within your budget, choose carefully, and remember creativity and joint play is often the making of the best days ever.

01 Plan a picnic where you don’t have to spend tons of money buying food or special picnic items, just grab what you can from the cupboard, make up your favourite sandwiches, a blanket and go explore nature at its best. Don’t forget to pack some games to play such as, rounders, football or a set of cards which could see away hours of fun in the sun.
Make a splash. We are incredibly lucky that our local communities have invested heavily in our park facilities, especially with the inclusion of splash parks located in our nearby towns and cities. For the early years, this is truly a haven for freedom and fun, whilst the parent watching on or joining in with play, can cherish every moment, as they don’t stay small for long. If you're lucky, you might spot the ice cream van nearby so you can treat the little ones to a sweet treat too! Kids are older? Why not upgrade and submerge yourself in one of the local outdoor pools, like Letchworth Lido, surrounded by sunbathing areas and cool refreshments.

Adjoined to the Fun Barn, you have the opportunity to venture between both experiences and benefit from the aircon if the weather does decide to pick up and they need a breather.

PA U S . FOR THOUGHT
Inspired by the Scandinavian philosophy of balance, body and mind, this outdoor experience is unmissable. Whether it is for a moment of peace to reflect on life, catch up with friends or colleagues or spend some time romantically with a glass of fizz, there is a moment to behold for everyone. PAUS. is family run and partners Alexandra and Bart have created something magical for the mind, body and soul and have been on a journey ever since. Having experienced a single wood-fired, red cedar hot tub at a holiday resort, they were intrigued with the concept and quickly realised the benefits. This intrigue became a reality with the purchase of a single facility, but it was when they gained interest from music festivals that they saw the bigger opportunity, which led to them expanding and creating PAUS.

RECONNECT WITH NATURE
Picture this; You exit your car, and from this moment it is like you are taking a journey of transformation. You walk through an archway, up onto the hill where the bathing site and bistro slowly emerge on the horizon. Enter the world of PAUS. Set up on a hillside in the stunning Cambridgeshire countryside, you are greeted with the warmth of a familiar welcome which is largely lost in our modern day, transactional society. With the steam and smoke gently curling upwards from the all natural, red cedar tubs, you are led to the changing facilities and your host explains what to expect from the experience. Changed into your swimwear, you proceed with an expectation and excitement towards the hilltop bathing tubs and sauna. As you gently slide in, you can take the time to relax and breathe then you’re greeted by a team member who takes your drinks order and checks that the temperature is just right for you. You have a range of refreshing alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks to choose from, along with a jug of fresh water to keep you balanced and hydrated. Are you bold enough for the cold? Experiencing the cold pool is highly encouraged, especially after raising your body temperature in the hot tub and sauna. When you are ready, you can stride into the centre and compose yourself before submerging into the refreshing water. The health benefits of this include relieving muscle soreness, helping to aid sleep and even helping to alleviate depression. To benefit the most, guests should alternate between the hot and cold facilities several times.

barefoot or ‘earthing’ are remarkable and it’s a wonderful way to re-connect with nature. Once you have returned from your walk and washed off of your feet, it is time to enjoy the view from the newly built decking at the bistro, and reflect on your time spent at PAUS. A variety of drinks, home baked cakes and fresh food are on offer, with an emphasis on using ingredients grown in their very own vegetable garden. The pizza oven is fired up every Thursday evening, for pizza and wine night and we could not think of a better way to wrap up the experience. Rustic, charming, unique, sensual, inspiring and rejuvenating.

The classic cocktail ingredients are alcohol, something sweet and something sour and this contemporary twist on a traditional gin cocktail has it all. Unashamedly pink and fabulously simple to make, it’s also easy to prebatch and will keep for weeks in the fridge. Just shake it like you mean it before pouring. Little surprise this is a best-seller at our pop-up events.

Cruise some of the world’s most fascinating and scenic waterways on a river cruise. River cruises offer a unique opportunity to relax and explore as you travel in style along the world’s watercourses. Take a cruise through the rivers around Europe and get the chance to see lots of the continent’s amazing sights, all on one holiday. Sail down the Rhine, the Danube, the Mississippi, the Yangtze or even the mighty Amazon and stop off in iconic and historic towns. See some of the world’s famous places of interest such as the Lorelei Rock on the Rhine, or the Three Gorges on the Yangtze. The American Queen Steamboat River Cruise in Mississippi gives you the chance to experience staying on an authentic paddlewheeler and discover America from the perspective of the river. In Vietnam, cruise the Mekong river, the longest in south-east Asia, and find cities, rural communities, floating markets, temples and ancient ruins. On a river cruise, every day is different and offers new ports of call and new sights to see. As with larger cruise liners, river cruises can be as relaxing or as active as you like. We can find you an all inclusive ship with great entertainment, leaving you no need to leave, or we can make sure you have lots of excursions booked at every port to keep you busy and ensure you see all the sights there are in each city. Whether you’re a seasoned river cruiser or you’re looking for a different type of holiday, Premier Travel can help find the cruise to suit you. ROYSTON T R A I L
No. 33 & 35 London Road.
S TON E S
PA S T
REMEMBER REMEMBER From the top of the high street, continue your walk up London Road. Note the blue plaque on the wall of the houses on your right. This was the home of Lord Mounteagle, who was warned not to attend the opening of Parliament in 1605. This information was passed on to the King, which subsequently led to the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot. Continue your walk up the road to No. 33 and 35 (pictured) and you will find the only remaining thatched houses in Royston, which was where there was once a public house named 'The Three Horseshoes'. Being careful, cross over the main road and head down the 'Warren', aptly named due to the land use in medieval times, for keeping rabbits. Rabbits were introduced to England by the Normans and were kept by monks as an alternative to eating fish on fast days. The car park on your left hand side was once covered with grass, and in Victorian times, was used by local washerwomen for airing clothes. These women lived here in a small group of cottages, situated where the bus stop is now located. This is also the location for one of England's first optical glass factories.

RISE
PRIME / 3 SEASONS
2022 / PG / 1H 53M
This is certainly not one for the squeamish or faint hearted. It comes with a number of warnings for a very good reason. But, look beyond the detailed gore, graphic violence and dark humour, and you will discover so much more. The story depicts a team of superheroes going about their business of saving lives and keeping America safe. However, some wise person once said 'with great power, comes great responsibility' and indeed the pressures of always wanting to be loved, always doing the right thing and always being in the public eye, come at a price. It's not made any easier when you have a team of vigilantes (known as 'the boys') who as individuals all have their own personal reasons for hating the superheroes and continuously try to take them down, no matter what.
Brand new release made for Disney+. Rise follows the amazing true story of NBA superstars, the Antetokounmpo brothers, mainly the eldest brother Giannis Antetokounmpo, now known as 'The Greek Freak'. From the troubles that his family went through, fleeing the country they loved, just so they could try and live a normal life and provide for their sons, showing real strength and love to support and encourage the young brothers' passions. Growing up they had to share one pair of Nike trainers, when playing basketball, always feeling like the outsiders. However, nothing would stop the determinations and dreams of young Giannis and all of his hard work pays off in the end. A great Sunday afternoon tear jerker. Sit back and enjoy.

The New Zealand born, female, solo powerhouse delivers a stunning and pure performance on her 2011 album Gravel & Wine. Her unique voice is mesmerising and her punk-rock style makes you want to turn it up loud and listen to every word. As the album progresses, her style continues to ring true, right to the very end. If you like something a bit special and unique then give this one a listen.
For his 3rd solo studio album, Harry continues to explore his sound further. From his debut self title album, through Fine Lines and onto Harry's House, you can see where his musical influences come from. Hints of Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straits mixed with classic soul, a hint of funk and a splash of modern pop rock. Tracks like the single 'As it was' with its upbeat rhythm and echoing vocals is an instant classic. Tracks like 'Cinema' really showcase the albums sound. Can't wait to see where he goes next.
