10 ALEX TUNBRIDGE UNITED.
In the world of football, leaders like Alex Tunbridge: CEO of Cambridge United, play a crucial role in shaping the future of their clubs. Since assuming the role in April 2022, Alex has been instrumental in bringing about a transformative era for the club.
Alex's journey to his current role at Cambridge United is marked by his prior experiences at Newport County AFC and Stevenage Football Club. His appointment followed the ownership transition in 2019, when lifelong fan Paul Barry became the majority owner. Barry's vision emphasised creating lasting memories by fostering a sense of responsibility among every individual associated with the club.
Before Alex's time as CEO, the club faced financial difficulties, leading to the sale of its stadium during a period of administration. One of his early goals was to reverse this situation, and today, Cambridge United proudly owns its stadium once again, including an adjacent piece of land that holds promise for future endeavours.
Whilst Alex has a keen interest in the club's on-pitch performance, his primary focus lies in the business side of operations. Overseeing, strategy, commercial development, finance, HR, governance and other essential function. He ensures that the club not only survives but thrives.
Under Alex's leadership, Cambridge United has achieved remarkable progress. The matchday experience has been enhanced, leading to a remarkable 90% occupancy rate across all home areas. The club has become more
accessible, especially for families, with improvements in hospitality offerings, the addition of a Kid Zone, and initiatives like sticker albums and match passports for children. The outreach has been so successful that an average of 300 new supporters attend each match.
Investing in the club's infrastructure, Tunbridge spearheaded the development of a state-of-the-art £3.5 million training facility on Bentley Road. These initiatives contribute to the club's overarching goal of becoming a sustainable League One football club, capable of challenging at the Championship level.
However, challenges persist. The aging stadium, overlooked for investment for decades, poses a significant hurdle. Despite recent improvements, there's still work to be done, particularly in enhancing family and toilet facilities. With the club consistently selling out, increasing capacity becomes a priority.
Looking to the future, Tunbridge envisions a stadium with a capacity of circa 12,000, achieved through strategic updates to existing stands. Furthermore, he plans to explore alternative uses for the ground, outside of match days, benefiting both the club and the wider community. By hosting non-match events, Cambridge United aims to diversify revenue streams and further show itself as a vital community asset.
In the hands of Alex Tunbridge, Cambridge United navigates challenges with a clear vision for a bright future, not just as a football club but as a cornerstone of community engagement and pride.

12 DAVID NASH
meet Gnasher
We caught up with Royston’s resident street artist, David Nash (aka Gnasher) and found out all about his inspirational journey of turning his passion and talent for art into an exciting career.
David always had a passion for art, for as long as he can remember. It all started out with copying Greek mythology pictures as a child, then developed in 1987 when David started (as most street artists do) with tagging and finding spots to express himself and perfect those artistic skills. Unbelievably, his final art project received an F grade as it was 'graffiti' which was not recognised at the time as art! This meant that he needed to carry out an extra year at college to be able to pursue a career as a graphic designer.
He packed away the spray paints for a while, and focussed on university and his graphic design career. Meanwhile, with the help of famous artists like Banksy, street art was finally commonly accepted as an art medium, and there are now 150 designated street art locations across the UK.
David started up again with some ad hoc, commissioned pieces and was asked to paint a mural on a child’s
bedroom wall. He did a great job and the child’s father saw a business opportunity in it. They got their heads together and Murwalls was born! Since then, David has been commissioned for many different murals, including premiership football grounds, Newmarket race course and many celebrities.
Surprisingly, David hasn’t had many local projects in the 7 years he has lived in Royston and would love to work on more in and around his home town. You may have seen him in Priory Gardens last year, demonstrating his skills as a part of a local event. He then generously donated the incredible crow canvas he created to Royston Town Football Club (home to ‘The Crows’), where it hangs proudly in the clubhouse.
More recently, Royston First commissioned David to paint the Christmas display windows for various businesses throughout the town. They were a huge success with the local community, and we were collectively staggered by the fact that all were painted freehand!
Watch this space, as we suspect some Gnasher originals are going to start springing up once people catch on to this local talent.

EMBRACING STREET ART
14 EMBRACING STREET ART
“We’ve been painting the walls since we sat in caves. One of the first stencils was a hand.”
– Gnasher
Meeting with local street artist Gnasher recently, and finding out about his lifelong love of street art, really got us thinking about this misunderstood art form. Street art has long been a controversial topic, commonly and previously known as ‘graffiti’ which derives from the Italian word ‘graffio’ meaning ‘scratch’. It comes as no surprise that it’s often associated with vandalism and destruction. But being in the business of creativity, we think it’s high time to shift the narrative and embrace the incredible talent and creativity that street artists demonstrate in cities and towns worldwide.
When you take the time to explore it, street art is more than just spray paint on walls, it’s a vibrant and dynamic art form with bold colours, detailed designs and powerful messaging. Street artists are often multi-skilled, working from intricate stencils to freehand masterpieces! The high level of skill that goes into this urban decor is undeniable and the often difficult conditions it is performed under makes it all the more impressive.
15 STONES PRESENT
With unsightly and seemingly talentless tags and crude phrases muddying the common perception of street art, it’s no wonder the general feeling towards it is negative. Looking at the progressive approach of some boroughs in London (amongst other forward thinking areas) for inspiration, we can find hope for a resurgance of the real artists by providing designated spaces to flex and practice their craft and proudly showcase just how wonderful it can truly be. It’s been proven that by providing a legitimate space for street artists to express themselves, illegal vandalism graffiti is drastically reduced in the surrounding area. Not only does this approach contribute to the visual appeal of the community, but it also implements a sense of pride and identity among residents.
By providing designated spaces for street artists, communities have the chance to embrace and enjoy this local talent. What were previously neglected and bleak looking areas can have a new lease of life and become cultural hubs, attracting residents and visitors alike to admire the creativity on display. Initiatives like community art festivals and workshops can further engage the public and promote a positive perception of street art as a legitimate art form.
By acknowledging street art, and encouraging local authorities to adopt these initiatives, we can strive to break down stereotypes and create a more inclusive and vibrant community where all forms of creativity can thrive. Street art has the power to tell stories, spark conversations and bring communities together.
So, let’s shed the outdated perception of street art as mere vandalism and embrace it as a powerful form of artistic expression. By following the lead of our capital and other forwardthinking locations, local authorities can provide designated spaces for street artists to showcase their talent.

Kibou
20 KIBOU - CAMBRIDGE
Before visiting Kibou; Cambridge’s newest Japanese eatery, we were inundated with rave reviews so we decided that we should go and see for ourselves what all the fuss is about and boy, are we glad we did!
Situated proudly on Jesus Lane in the grand, Grade 2 listed building (which was originally built to be Turkish baths in 1863 and more recently known as Pizza Express), Kibou has arrived in Cambridge with a bang!
The restaurant decor is Japaneseinspired and every intricate detail has been so well thought out to deliver an immersive experience for guests. We even discovered the most charming Japanese sinks in the bathroom!
There are a number of dining and drinks areas, each of which offers its own unique and intimate feel, with a bustling atmosphere that brings the whole restaurant together. From cosy tables for two with a view of the hardworking chefs in the kitchen and the bar area to two dining rooms, one with large statement lampshades hanging over booths for larger groups. The centrepieces (around which everything else just seamlessly works) in both dining rooms are the decorative cherry blossom and wisteria trees, which really give this place an impressive sense of occasion.
21 STONES PRESENT PLACES
On arrival, we were greeted just inside the entrance and guided to a table beneath the tree in the smaller of the dining rooms. It really had the wow factor with Japanese-themed mirrored walls, stylish furniture and a perfectly lit ambience.
We were handed our menus by an attentive member of the waiting team and, due to the unusual offering, they were forthcoming with guidance on what to choose and how many dishes would be about right for the number of diners on our table. Whilst we pondered our decisions, we had some chilli edamame beans and wasabi peas to nibble on and placed a drinks order from the extensive drinks list. The drinks menu included all of the usual suspects, but some notable surprises were many different varieties of sake (even an optional flight of sake was available for those serious about immersing into the experience!), some Kibou signature cocktails mixed with beautiful Asian-inspired ingredients like lychee, yuzu and lemongrass and some really interesting non-alcoholic options.
We ordered a mixture of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, and we were blown away by the expertly balanced flavours and the presentation of the drinks - they were so delicious!
With our thirst quenched, we turned our attention to the food menu; a tempting selection of dishes that made decision-making a delightful challenge. In the end, we turned to the knowledgeable staff for their recommendations and put our trust in their advice. It turned out to be a great move because the dishes we received were incredible! It was explained that there are a couple of different approaches to dining at Kibou; you could either go with a traditional ‘starter, main, dessert’ format or more of a ‘tapas style’ where you order several smaller dishes to share on the table (adding more as required)we opted for the latter as the sushi and sharer options were just irresistible to us!
22 KIBOU - CAMBRIDGE
23 STONES PLACES
The dishes we ordered included pork gyoza, the volcano roll (sushi dipped in tempura batter, fried and drizzled with special sauces), ika furai (spiced, fried squid), beef tataki & truffle nigiri (8-piece nigiri with sirloin of beef tataki, truffle mayo & tempura flakes), a mixture of steamed bao buns and, our hands down favourite - the dynamite prawns! We’re still dreaming about these prawns and counting down the days until we can return and have them again. They're big and succulent and the delicious sauce they're tossed in, is divine - you could eat them by the bucket load - an umami dream!
As beaten as we were by the amount of food we had just consumed, we decided to finish strong and check out the desserts. Between us, we ordered the unusual matcha creme brûlée, the refreshingly citrusy yuzu cheesecake, the stunningly presented Japanese Garden (chocolate ganache, sesame mousse and chocolate soil) and the apple gyoza, which were served warm with ice cream - just the perfect finale to an evening full of culinary treats.
24 KIBOU - CAMBRIDGE
Overall, our visit to Kibou confirmed all of the wonderful rumours we had heard, and we wholeheartedly recommend it. Just the spot for a date night, a special occasion or an introduction to Japanese food done right. With a children’s menu and an afternoon tea offering as well, there really is something for everyone and lots of reasons to make Kibou your go-to eatery in the city centre.

42 FLOATATION THERAPY FL
With our daily lives feeling busier and more stressful than ever, finding a sanctuary for our mental and physical well-being is a desire many of us share. On our quest to find wellbeing solutions for all, we came across floatation therapy; an experience where you effortlessly float in a pod in highly salted water. It induces relaxation, mental clarity, and a refreshing sense of rejuvenation. So, as well as being relaxing, what other benefits does floatation therapy offer and who is it for?
UNLEASHING CREATIVITY ADHD SYPTOM RELIEF
Studies reveal that floatation therapy positively impacts creative thinking and problem-solving. It's like tapping into a well of creativity, with the meditative and relaxed state fostering improved cognitive performance and mental clarity.
PROMOTION OF THETA BRAIN WAVES
Floatation therapy is like riding a wave of theta brain activity, associated with deep relaxation, enhanced creativity, and improved learning. It's a mental surfing experience, contributing to an elevated sense of mental well-being.
ENHANCED MINDBODY CONNECTION
Research suggests that floatation therapy opens the door to a heightened awareness of your mind-body connection, encouraging mindfulness and self-awareness. The meditative state achieved during floatation becomes a guide to understanding your physical sensations and emotional well-being.
A floatation session couldn’t be better for those living with symptoms of ADHD, as external sensory input is minimised. This reduction in stimuli may help individuals with ADHD who are often hypersensitive to their surroundings. By eliminating external distractions, individuals may find it easier to focus their attention and reduce sensory overload. The buoyancy of the saltwater also allows the individual to float effortlessly, promoting muscle relaxation and stress reduction. Chronic stress is common in individuals with ADHD, and relaxation techniques can be helpful in managing symptoms.
STRESS REDUCTION
Picture yourself in a specially designed pod, weightlessly drifting in a soothing mix of water and Epsom salt. The objective is to dial down external distractions by creating an environment that is a haven for relaxation with a holistic sense of wellbeing. Studies dive into the stress-relieving magic of floatation therapy. It's like a reset button for stress, as cortisol levels (the stress hormone) take a dip. The feeling of weightlessness in the pod eases muscle tension, leaving you with a sense of calm.

PAIN MANAGEMENT AND RELIEF
Floatation therapy helps to soothe chronic pain, especially in conditions like fibromyalgia and lower back pain. The buoyancy from the Epsom salt solution acts as a gentle hug, providing respite to joints and muscles aching from the daily grind.
REDUCTION OF SYMPTOMS RELATED TO PTSD
For those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), floatation therapy emerges as a lifeline. The sensory isolation offers a refuge, contributing to a reduction in hyperarousal and intrusive thoughts.

Keeping fit and supple during your pregnancy will not only serve you well during delivery but will also help you to recover more efficiently afterwards and maintain your emotional well being. Pregnancy yoga classes like Luliyoga offer are specifically designed for supporting physical preparation and strength throughout the trimesters and, just as importantly, provide an opportunity to meet a community of fellow expectant mothers where you can share experiences, advice and form lasting friendships.
Amid the excitement and anticipation, it's so important for mothers to take a moment for themselves. So use this as the perfect time to hit the spa and treat yourself to a massage for your aching muscles, a pedicure for those hard-to-reach toes, and anything else that helps to relax and relieve you when you need a lift. You will find that most beauty establishments offer suitable treatments for pregnant ladies, our personal favourite is at Esse day spa, in Meldreth, where you will be taken care of with a Mum-to-be treatment and you could even make a day of it with a calming relaxation area and lots of other
pregnancy friendly treatments on the menu. Remember, the better you take care of yourself, the better you will be equipped to care for your baby.
There has been a significant rise in people seeking holistic alternatives to conventional medicine, particularly during pregnancy when mothers are perhaps more conscious than ever of what is going into their bodies. With the guidance of your doctor and / or midwife, we would encourage exploring the options available and go natural where appropriate. Our recommended first step in this exploration would be to get in touch with NHS midwife Jessy at Bloom, Birth & Beyond. As well as being a qualified midwife, Jessy offers services including reflexology, acupressure, hypnobirthing, birth preparation, breastfeeding support, night nannying, birth discussions, scar therapy, and moxibustion. A holistic approach may not be suited to everyone but it’s certainly worth finding out more to see if your complaint could be relieved without a visit to the chemist.
Once you have hit the half way mark of your pregnancy, celebrate by booking a newborn photo shoot for when that little ball of cuteness arrives. The optimum time for newborn photography is between 5 - 20 days after they are born and whilst that seems like plenty of time to get round to doing it, a whirlwind of sleep deprivation, visitors and adjusting to life with your new addition all means that you will blink and that window has passed! So our top tip is to get ahead of the game and pop it in the calendar early. Those photos will become some of your most treasured belongings and to capture that fleeting newborn stage is precious. We looked into newborn photography in our area and there are some wonderful options - our personal favourite images are the ones captured by Baby Whispers Photography. If you haven’t seen Marie’s work already then we would urge you to
check it out, but approach with caution because if you weren’t already broody, this will see to that!
A lack of sleep can be one of the most daunting prospects of transitioning to parenthood. Often the first words of well meaning family and friends is “is anyone getting any sleep?”. Whilst the needs of a newborn make broken sleep inevitible and necessary for those first few weeks and months, a sleep consultant like Natalie who is based in Royston, can help to support you with creating good sleep habits that will support the whole family to find a rhythm and get the rest they need to thrive. Whether bad habits have been unknowingly formed or your child is suffering with an illness or discomfort that is disturbing their slumber, a sleep consultant may well be the knight in shining armour that your family needs!
Mum isn’t the only one who will benefit from a relaxing massage, this is something that can be shared with your newborn too! Attending baby massage classes, like those run by LucyJayne Costello at Bury Lane Fun Barn, Melbourn (1:1 sessions also available) provides the perfect opportunity to dedicate some time to bonding with your baby and making new friends. In addition Massage has been proven to help with stomach issues and colic, helping babies sleep better and longer. A more relaxed baby, means a more relaxed family so we would definitely recommend giving it try.
The reality of navigating the world of pregnancy and parenting is that it can be overwhelming but it is also magical and an experience like no other so we would encourage you to be kind to yourself, surround yourself with supportive and non judgemental peers, embrace the joy and explore the myriad of services available to support your family on this extraordinary adventure.

TRAVEL
Australia's charm lies in its ability to offer a little bit of everything, from the ancient to the modern, the natural to the urban. Whether you're seeking relaxation on pristine beaches, a cultural awakening through local experiences, or the excitement of a bustling city, Australia welcomes you with open arms and promises an unforgettable journey of discovery.
In my opinion, it is one of the most amazing places in the world! It’s a nation that caters to a wide range of interests, offering diverse experiences for everyone to enjoy. Before I delve into where to go and what to do, here is an insight into the largest island (yet smallest continent) in the world.
Being so vast, Australia has many time zones, various climates, and not to mention beautiful coastlines, famous sights and many vineyards to visit.
There are 6 states and 2 territories, which all have their own capital cities. The various time zones and climates mean there’s not one state you can’t visit all year round.
Lifestyle in Australia is very diverse, and the people are friendly and welcoming. As with many cultures, they often all come together over great food and drink.
Getting to Australia from the UK is now easier than ever. Flying is the most common, but you can even travel there on a cruise ship!
Flying can involve a stopover to break the long flight up, and a great way to extend your trip and see other countries along the way. Examples of popular stop over locations include Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Once you have arrived at your destination, depending on the trip you have planned, there are so many ways to travel around in Australia; hire a car, book an organised tour, take a train and fly. So many options to consider and always worth putting a good plan together in advance to ensure you cover everywhere you want to visit.

New South Wales
This state is home to Sydney, my favourite city in the world. Located on the east side of Australia, this region boasts indulgent vineyards, stunning seaside villages and mountain wilderness.
Sydney is a bustling capital and, in my opinion, is reminiscent of London. It’s an all-rounder destination with the Sapphire Coast to the south and the famous Blue Mountains to the west.
If you choose to stay in Sydney. I would recommend visiting the Sydney Opera House and even climbing to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Visiting Bondi Beach is also a must whilst you’re there. Getting around is easy, making the most of local transport in the city itself. I personally went onboard a boat and sailed around the waters of the city, which was a great way to see the landmarks from a different point of view.
Alternative activities to consider; visit the vineyards in Hunter Valley, head to the national parks of Blue Mountains and Sapphire Coast.

Northern Territory
At the top end of Australia, you will discover the capital of Darwin which boasts the famous national parks; Kings Canon, Kakadu and Litchfield National Park but not forgetting the most iconic Uluru and the desert town of Alice Springs.
This area would really suit adventure-seeking travellers and is a must-see!
You can fly from Sydney to Uluru and stay in the National Park area, where there are a couple of hotels to admire Uluru from. This beautiful rock just takes your breath away and I would highly recommend visiting it whilst in Australia. 2 nights here is enough to do everything you need to do. Walking around Uluru which takes a fair few hours and you can even take a helicopter ride up into the skies for a different view.
Queensland
Also known as the sunshine state. This subtropical stretch in the land on the northeast of Australia is home to the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, the ancient Daintree Rainforest, and the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. Home to more than 1000 ecosystem types and colourful coral, which is home to fish, turtles, and an abundance of wildlife.
Queensland is a paradise for sun-worshipping, beachloving travellers. So, whether you love white sandy beaches, scuba diving or just simply city visiting, this state also offers something for everyone.

Western Australia
This is the largest state of them all and another personal favourite of mine.
Situated on the west coast, it’s home to the dramatic scenery and waterfalls of the Kimberly Region, the Idyllic Rottnest Island and the premium wine and surf region of Margaret River. The capital of Perth is known for its uncrowded beaches, parklands and fresh seafood which all make it a great place to spend time. With such a lot to see and do in the area, such as visiting the wineries via riverboat, swimming with wild dolphins, and feeding kangaroos and koalas in the local wildlife parks, I would recommend spending an extended amount of time here. Local transport is great with trains running between Perth and the local beaches regularly.
Head to Freemantle for local coffee shops, boutiques and a great market The beaches are golden and safe to swim in, body boarding and surfing are popular here for all ages.
In conclusion, the reality is that a visit to Australia may well be a once-in-a-lifetime trip so my advice is to work with a travel agent to really make sure you experience everything you possibly can whilst there.

Market hill
As you walk up the road from Fish Hill Square, you will pass the library on your left and find the marketplace to your right. A thriving market, that dates back to the monastic era, runs here on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the space is used as a car park on other days of the week. Royston Market, which we covered in Vol.2 of STONES if you would like to read more (feel free to get in touch for back copies), was predominantly a cattle market at one time and now offers a wide variety of stalls including fresh fruit and veg, flowers and plants, baked goods, fishmongers, butcher and more!
According to Royston historians, this was the very place where a confrontation took place during the Civil War between Parliament troops and townspeople supporting the King. It’s said that the troops teased
Roystonians and called them ‘crows’. This name stuck and became a symbol that is still widely used today!
Other nearby places of interest include the beautiful corn exchange. Purpose built to be used as corn merchants' offices but now converted into boutique shops and a cafe.
The Green Man pub, which stands proudly facing the marketplace, has been a hospitable resting place for many years. In Victorian times, lunches were served from the singlestorey part of the pub, announced by the landlady with a handbell to bring the farmers in for sustenance.
Once part of the pub but now privately owned, is the ‘Greenlawns’, which was named as a nod to the lawn that was once used as Royston’s bowling green.

It teaches us to appreciate what we have, to look at life in a different way, and to prioritise looking after ourselves. If we are not happy in ourselves then the world around us will seem tougher than it needs to be. This black comedy psychological thriller film hit our screens at the end of 2023 and left a whirlwind of mixed reviews in it’s wake.
The main protagonist, Oliver lands a place at the prestigious Oxford University and when he arrives there, he immediately feels like an outsider as the kid from a working class family, mixing with snobby and powerful high society types. He soon becomes fixated on the devilishly handsome Felix and spins a web of deceipt that leads to a summer invite to his family estate; Saltburn. What follows is a story full of shocking events over the course of that summer and beyond where Oliver desperately tries to find his place in this unfamilar world.
You need to watch this one to fully appreciate it and, whether you love it or hate it, it will keep you gripped throughout.

One More Time… Blink-182
Fasle
Lankum
The original trio of Tom, Mark and Travis are back… with a bang! After 12 years apart they have forgiven past issues and channeled those feelings and emotions into their music. This is not just the original Blink-182 in look, but also in sound. Even after all these years it’s like they never left, the chemistry is undeniable. They may be a little older but they are still the kings of punk rock. With mesmerising riffs, over the top drums and cheeky lyrics they have not lost what we all loved about the bands past music. Produced by drummer Travis, the collaboration on this album throughout is clear from the start. One stand out track is ‘One more time’ the bands version of a power ballad, making the point that life is too short to hold grudges. Turn the volume up, sit back and enjoy Blink - back at their best!
REVOLUTION RECORDS RECOMMEND
Why are Lankum suddenly such hot property?
Well, the really easy answer to this is that False Lankum is a magnum opus; a supreme musical achievement that anyone at all interested in music should have square on their radar, It is, quite frankly, an astonishing piece of art; emotive, absorbing, world-spanning, the encapsulation of and mirror to life, work, love, family, friends, death and more.
Those in love with music sometimes can’t help reading reviews, even if their task is to review said album. One of the snappiest lines swirling on top of the crest of the wave is that it is “the OK Computer of modern folk music.” Whilst some may contest it's slightly glib, this new long-player from the quartet lives up to that supreme compliment. As the saying goes: believe the hype.
This is an album that we will be having conversations about in ten years’ time.
